Slab Formwork (K-Stage)

K-Stage Decking & ProppingThe K-Stage Decking systems replaces the primary & secondary timbers in soffit support and provides a flat support grid for decking out with plywood or other suitable materials, labour costs are greatly reduced in conjunction with the speed of construction to provide an economical solution to decking problems. K-Stage requires fewer different pieces than most other similar systems and can be stored in less space.

StandardsMade from standard scaffolding tube. They have 'v' pressing welded at 495mm 4 way connections for ledgers.

LedgersThey are welded with 'c' press & wedge, used for easy installation on the standards.

Decking BeamsDesigned to support a variety of bay sizeswith a maximum load on anysupporting leg of 40 kN.Available sizes: 8'0", 6'0" & 4'0"

Adjustable Spigot JackIt connects open end standard withdrophead and it is used for adjustingdrophead height.

Designed as secondary beams to supportplywood at permissible spans. Safe working load: 40kN UDL.

DropheadSupports the decking beamswhich are seated on theprojected support plate.

Assembly of K-Stage Scaffolding & Decking

Space out socket bases and stand in jacks if required (plain shank at top)

Dismantling follows the same procedure whether the techniques of 'early stiking' are followed or not.The advantages of early striking is that the primary beams and infills may be removed while the concrete soffit remains supported and completely undisturbed during it's curing period. The primary beams and infills may therefore be re-used thus gaining further concrete production with only an additional set of supporting components.Primary beams and infills may be removed by striking the drophead wedge. While the primary head of the drophead remains in contact with the concrete, the

striking of the wedge allows the beams to drop about 115mm giving sufficient clearance for the removal of the infills.Whether the advantages of 'early striking' are taken or not, complete safety in dismantling operations is ensured as primary beams and infills cannot fall to the ground after striking, but must be removed manually. To assemble K-Stage Scaffolding & Decking remove the drophead assembly from the jack at one end and connect it to the beam. The completed beam with its drophead can now be raised and dropped over the jack.

Assemble a standard on a jack and two ledgers at right angles in a lower V pressing of this standard.

Take a second standard and assemble on another jack, fixing the ledger end of the previously assembled ledger into the V pressing of this standard. Repeat for the third standard to complete a right angled corner.

Add the fourth standard and two more ledgers in a similar manner to complete the assembly of 4 standards and 4 ledgers.

Add the upper layer of four ledgers and two braces. Assemble the upper jacks and dropheads on the completed support grid.

Finally add the primary beams and infills in the completed support structure and as grids are completed, tighten all joints.

K-Stage Technical Data

Drophead supportingbeams in raised position.

At least two lacing levels have to be used on each standards. When calculating Horizontal forces, include for wind forces, the effect of eccentricity, and out of plumb (in accordance with British Standard 5975).Take care that the structure is stable in the unloaded condition, especially if towers or narrow structures are used. All standards should be erected plumb. Horizontal forces should be distributed over all standards as evenly as possible. Sound footings should be provided to prevent settlement of the standards.

Vertical Axial Load to 57kN.

The loadings will vary according to the

horizontal loads taken into account and the

actual extension of the jack required.

Permissible Loads on Base Components

Early striking is a technique whereby the formwork is removd 3 to 4 days after pouring the slabs but with the supporting structure of Scaffold remainng undisturbed for the full curing period. After striking, the primary beams, the infill beams and the plywood can be easily removed and re-used on the next area of Scaffold. The drophead remains at all times in contact with the underside of the slab ensuring proper support at all times.

Drophead in struck position.

The DROPHEAD has a safe load carrying capacity of 40 kN
