Mythology in Reiki History: A Circle of Scholars webinar
August 17, 2019 In popular parlance, "myth" can mean a story that is widely-believedbut is actually untrue. However, in scholarly usage, mythology is acategory of narrative that conveys meaning and values. The details ofa myth may not be entirely historically accurate, but it is capable oftransmitting a different kind of truth about human experience thanhistory. In the history of Reiki, teachers have used storytelling to establishtheir authority and to pass essential lessons to their students. Join Dori Beeler, Robert Fueston, Liad Horowitz, and Justin Stein in aprovocative discussion of the power of storytelling and the nature oftruth.

Reiki in Japanese Culture: A Circle of ScholarsWebinar
September 21, 2019 Regardless of what style of Reiki you practice, youcan trace your lineage back to Mikao Usui (1865-1926), who taught his Reiki Therapy (Usui ReikiRyōhō) in Tokyo in the 1920s. Usui-sensei said his therapy was "entirelyoriginal," inspired by a mystical experience on a sacred mountainoutside Kyoto, but historical research has uncovered numerousinfluences on his teachings that likely stem from other practices inearly twentieth-century Japan. In some sense, our practices containsome aspects in common with other Japanese arts or "ways" likemartial arts, tea ceremony, calligraphy, or flower arrangement. In the contemporary world, some practitioners are interested inreinforcing the Japanese identity of their practice, while othersembrace a more eclectic or experimental approach to their practice. Join Dori Beeler, Liad Horowitz, Jojan Jonker, and Justin Stein for adiscussion of the role of Japan and Japanese culture in Reiki's rootsand its fruits.
