How many ever consider preparing, saving, and skimping while on vacation so as to have extra to give when they return? THE LAMPLIGHTER

While sitting at Bojangles watching, listening, and writing I see many people doing funny and sometimes strange things; I often hear many interesting discussions and one recent trip was just that.

Two families each from different states, both heading off on vacation, one to Myrtle Beach SC and the other to Walt Disney World in Orlando Fla. Each for a week, with two totally different destinations but each seeking the same results … fun … excitement … fun … memories. Both families had their vehicles packed to the max and were hoping to have safe travel as they set out on the ribbon of asphalt.

What piqued my interest was not the children running around full of excitement but the parent’s discussion about how they acquired the funds necessary for what was being described as the vacations of a lifetime. Both were excited about what was ahead, but listening I realized they both had the same beginnings.

Each told of how they had been putting a little away here and a little there. I heard how over-time funds were put away for this special vacation. One explained how she began couponing to save and put what was saved aside for this special time.

One said how she had her husband take his lunch and put up what was saved each week. It seemed as if both families had worked very hard and long all seeking the same results … Vacation!

What occurred to me as I heard all they had done was how intentional both families were to prepare for their vacations of a lifetime. I wondered if as they were being so frugal and thrifty if they ever took the time to teach their children about saving and being frugal? I wonder if the children were explained what had to be done so they could go on vacation like this?

Just then the light bulb went on and a question formed “wonder if these same people prepare, save, and skimp to give to the church when they return home?” Then again, how many of us ever give it a second thought about missing worship and failing to bring forth our

offering? How many ever consider preparing, saving, and skimping while on vacation so as to have extra to give when they return?

Talking with some members recently about the recent decrease in attendance, I asked should I be worried and I was told “No, don’t worry this happens every summer.”

VACATION TIME! By Pastor Kevin Dalton

“The Lord is my light and my salvation”

This caused me to think isn’t it comforting to know that God doesn’t stop His giving and go on vacation like we do? And when we do go off on vacation, what are we teaching our children about serving God and giving back to Him? It’s just good to know we serve a loving gracious God who allows nothing to come between Him and His children.
