RWA Architects: April 2014 - Present

As a full-time employee at RWA Architects, I have taken on significantly more responsibility than I had in my previous co-op experiences. I am currently in charge of three projects from pre-design through construction administration. This brings the need to organize team members within the firm as well as contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, etc. in order to ensure our projects meet our Clients’ expectations. A recent promotion has brought greater independence to develop drawings and to utilize current interns to move projects forward.

RWA Architects: Fall 2011, Summer+Fall 2012, Summer 2013

As the premier high-end residential firm in Cincinnati, RWA Architects has taught me extensive knowledge of highly-detailed construction drawings. Each co-op brought a promotion and an increase in responsibility. I became key in the cre-ation of construction documents for projects ranging from Bathroom makeovers to entire estates utilizing PowerCADD, SketchUp, hand sketching and rendering.

Court Atkins: Spring 2010 & Fall 2010

Working within the strict confines of architectural review boards, I learned how to design and detail high-end homes which would quickly move through the approval process. I became a core part of the Court Atkins team during my two co-op terms. Utilizing AutoCAD and extensive hand drawing I created presentations , made material selections, and developed highly detailed interior elevations.

Fuller Center Disaster Rebuilders: Fall 2009

Fuller Center has tasked itself with rebuilding the homes of people affected by natural disasters. During my time in Eastern Texas I was in charge of the redesign and reconstruction of three homes through volunteer labor. Due to budgetary restrictions it was critical to be conscious of the cost of every design move and to gauge the most beneficial task for each volunteer.

North Royalton High School: Spring 2009

During my semester at North Royalton High School I was in charge of teaching several hand drafting and AutoCAD drafting classes. This required quick adaptability to best teach each student how to make the most out of their education. It also solidified my personal understanding of two-dimensional drafting.

ADDITION - SMALLNew Mudroom

The Client came to us with the desire to create a modern mudroom addition to suit the needs of their growing family. We utilized the lines and materials from their favorite pieces of furniture and created an addition which frames a new outdoor seating area and greatly adds to the functionality of the home.

ADdition/Renovation - mediumSecond Story Bedroom/Bathroom

Our Clients’ growing family warranted the need for an additional bedroom and a new laundry room. Through the addition of a second story above the existing garage we created two new bedrooms suites and converted one existing bedroom into a laundry area.

Our Clients have four boys who shared a dated bathroom which no longer met their needs as a family. We updated the space to allow for use by all four boys at once including a larger vanity, a new toilet compartment, and two showers.

Renovation - LargeFamily Offices for Major Corporation

As their company grew, the family needed an executive office that would be closer to their homes. An Art Deco office building will be remodeled into a modern office which will suit the family’s needs and serve as a meeting and workstation for the family’s personal assistants.

renovation - SMALLExpanded Dining Nook

Having built the home in 1967 the Client was looking to fix what he considered being the biggest problem with the home. We created a scheme which would increase the Dining Nook to be able to handle a full-sized table and allow for much more natural light and a better connection to nature.

Detail - SmallTimeball for Observatory Center

Timeballs were once used in both the syncing of clocks and as a navigational tool for ships. The Cincinnati Observatory Center was looking to create a new timeball as an educational device. Through the use of highly detailed drawings we came up with a design which would compliment the architecture of the Observatory.

renovation - SMALLNew Master Bathroom

The existing home did not feature a designated master suite. Utilizing a series of smaller spaces we devised a scheme which would give the Clients significantly more space and a new bathroom. The Client’s degenerative eye disorder required the use of cove lighting and natural light to light the space at all hours. Strong contrast between elements also helps the Client navigate the space.

ADdition/Renovation - mediumKitchen/Dining Room Expansion

After purchasing a home with a cramped Kitchen and Dining Room our Clients were feeling slight buyer’s remorse. Utilizing a small addition as well as removing the wall between the space we created a scheme which greatly enhanced the functionality of both spaces and suits the needs of their family.

renovation - mediumCommercial Renovation Mockups

In both these projects the Owner of a commercial building approached us with the goal of increasing curb appeal for their structures in an expedited fashion. With the short schedule in mind, I created mock ups of how the updated buildings could appear utilizing Photoshop and SketchUp.

NEW ESTATE - Extra largeTudor Revival Mansion

In their late 80s, our Clients had never built their dream home. They approached us to create a home which would long outlive themselves and would stand as a built symbol of their legacy in Greater Cincinnati. As part of a much larger team I took on the creation of several spaces which would fit into the overall aesthetic of the project.

ThesisOver the Rhine Pedestrian Connections

The urban renaissance in Cincinnati has created vast business districts along the grid’s major north-south roads but left pockets of abandonment and vacant lots in the areas between. This thesis explored utilizing these vacant spaces as an asset rather as a deterrent to human movement through the neighborhood.

behavioral studioOTR Mixed Use Development

Tasked with developing a project for a cultural behavior that is currently going through a major change, a partner and I created a mixed-use development which would incorporate all aspects of suburban or near-urban life within one structure, integrating these tasks into the less controlled urban environment of the city.

Mt. adams studioStudio and Film Festival

Working within a group we were to come up with a regular event to anchor a newly constructed space within the Mt. Adams Community of Cincinnati. Taking precedent from other small scale theaters within the region we created a space which would not only show films but offer the spaces necessary to create and showcase them at an annual event which would draw fans of the art to the city.

Underwater studioResearch Station

Working to solve the issue of insufficient access to the open ocean, a partner and I created a structure which would remove the difficulties associated with transporting people and supplies far out into the ocean for each new study. This station would function independently and be able to move throughout the world to meet the needs of those researchers occupying the station.

FOOD DEsert studioInterconnected Community Gardens

As a group of 8 people we each developed a scheme which would help solve the problem of the food desert within one of the largest low-income neighborhoods in Cincinnati. My portion of the project involved creating dozens of interconnected green spaces which would be used for the growth of food in addition to easing the connection between residents and their local food sources.

After talking to local youth groups and their resounding desire for a safe place within the community, I created a mixed-use structure which would create dozens of moments of interaction between residents leaving no space out of the sight-lines of watchful residents.
