The University maintains a 60-acre state-of-the-art residential campus, with a 1:15 faculty-student ratio. The faculty members have been recruited from different parts of the world with outstanding academic qualifications and experience. The international educational background and experience of our faculty members augurs well for our inter-disciplinary approach towards higher education.

The interdisciplinary orientation has led to the establishment of three schools: the Law School, the Business School, and a School of International Affairs. There are plans for the launch of a fourth school - The School of Government and Public Policy.

The objective of having multiple schools, staffed with eminent scholars, is to provide a seamless integration of knowledge across domains: a key step towards becoming a truly ‘Global Multi-Disciplinary University’

Vice Chancellor’s MessageI take great pleasure in welcoming you to O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU). Our vision is to promote global education across different disciplines. In addition to the Jindal Global Business School (JGBS), JGU has also established the Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) and the Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA).

In the last year, JGU has witnessed remarkable developments relating to teaching, research and institution building. JGU has forged a number of international collaborations and has played a pivotal role in organizing seminars, lectures, and conferences on major issues related to law, society and business. The establishment of JGBS is an important milestone in the history of JGU. The interconnectedness of the study of business and law and the opportunity of faculty from JGLS and JGBS interacting with each other is a unique feature of education at JGU.

The vision of JGBS is to promote multi-disciplinary global business education with a view to creating knowledge and contributing to interaction between academia, business and industry.

The faculty and research centres of JGBS are engaged in research that will help address some of the major issues that are affecting the business world. Given the multi-faculty nature of JGU with the three schools interacting with each other, there are great opportunities for students to benefit. There are opportunities for student to cross register courses and participate in seminars on issues that have broader significance.

I would encourage you to read this brochure. I sincerely hope that you visit our campus and interact with our faculty to know more about our courses and programmes.

Professor C. Raj Kumar Vice Chancellor, JGULL.B. (Delhi), B.C.L. (Rhodes Scholar, Oxford), LL.M. (Gammon Fellow, Harvard)

Vice Dean’s MessageWe are here to help you prepare to meet the global business and leadership challenges of tomorrow. We are a school with a ‘geocentric’ 21st century approach (as opposed to an ‘ethnocentric’ 20th century approach) to management education today. Much of the ‘knowledge creation’ at JGBS takes place in the classroom, through concentrated interaction between our faculty - who are well-grounded in both research and practice - and our graduate students who are refining, redefining, upgrading, and recreating their skills in management, careers, and professional lives.

In today’s world where “you can Google knowledge”, you cannot “Google” good judgement, wisdom, creativity and innovation, leadership, communication skills, team-working abilities, or the values underlying ethical decision-making.

Tolerance for ambiguity, embracing diversity of thought and culture - these are not learnt on the Internet. They are learnt through extensive practice and the application of sound principles that rest on strong, tested, conceptual foundations. This is the kind of leader for tomorrow whom we are trying to prepare today at JGBS; where learning to lead in the right way at the right time in the right place, is not a skill which is learned quickly and lightly through memory tests; where good teamwork is a skill acquired and developed through extensive practice and continuous improvement throughout our two years’ intensive, rigorous MBA and MBL curriculum.

Our students are consciously taught to take a global perspective in their management thinking through their work with case studies and internationally experienced professors, in applied research projects, and in their “Action Learning” programmes which are the capstones to their degree. These key learning components, reinforce and dovetail with their two-month internships at leading companies, upon completion of their core courses, and prior to final placement at the end of the second year.

Professor Michael J. BarnesVice Dean, JGBSB.Sc. (Econ.) (London School of Economics and Political Science)MBA (Stanford University), DM (Case Western Reserve University)

Inspired Learning

Business education is witnessing a shift from conventional to innovative learning.

Increasingly, students need to be trained in real life situations which enable them to effectively respond to business issues. In this scenario, there is an increasing emphasis on work experience prior to postgraduate studies, and sharing past knowledge to help chart a road map for the future of business. In addition, inter-cultural and cross-cultural understanding has become an important component in a global manager’s profile.

Today’s business education, therefore, should enable students to:

• Deal with issues and ideas that are important for business value creation and development

• Develop skills and competencies that go beyond theoretical knowledge• Make their education relevant to the emerging global business paradigm.

The objective of our post graduate programmes is to create not just excellent managers, but also to instill the spirit of entrepreneurship so that they can evolve into leaders and wealth creators in years to come. The Management programmes at JGBS are among the most rigorous in the country and are designed to give students a global management perspective through a unique pedagogy of learning and interaction among peers in a modular format. Activities like live projects, field assignments, and simulation games form an integral part of the programmes.

The programmes incorporate industry internships with an in-depth dissertation requirement to achieve holistic learning and a comprehensive understanding of the contemporary business environment.

Programmes

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Our flagship programme, a full-time residential two-year MBA, focuses on creating business leaders with a wide array of skills and knowledge relevant in the business context of a geocentric 21st Century.

Corporate MBA

Uniquely designed for company-sponsored working professionals, students enrolling in this programme undertake first year courses alongside students of the two-year MBA programme. However, unlike the students of the two-year MBA programme who continue their residential programme in the second year, the Corporate MBA students work on projects assigned to them by their sponsoring organizations, under the guidance of JGBS faculty members.

“The Jindal Global Business School brings a refreshingly contemporary perspective to the learning of managerial and leadership skills that are highly relevant and required to effectively understand and address the challenges faced by the emerging global economic order.”

Professor Arie ReichelDean, Guilford Glazer School of Business and ManagementBeer-Sheva, Israel

Master of Business & Law (MBL)

A programme for working executives, the MBL combines the interdisciplinary strengths of the Business School (JGBS) and the Law School (JGLS). It helps develop critical skills that empower the student to make decisions based on knowledge; appreciate the complexity of global civil society; and develop multiple perspectives to gain mastery of the economic, political, and social dimensions of Business and Law.

The degree provides a comparative advantage to three constituencies:

1) Business professionals who appreciate that a sound understanding of law is fundamental to their career advancement.

2) Professionals in the legal domain who wish to gain a better understanding of the practice of good management – defined as planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.

3) Experienced managers and professionals – for example in medicine and health care, public administration, the accountancy profession, actuaries, business journalists, engineers, and consultants – who wish to build stronger foundations in business and management whilst gaining an understanding of the key elements in law as it relates to business, in India as well as in the global context.

The MBL is a 27-months weekends-only programme. Each weekend session comprises two classes per day of three hours each. Students are required to attend classes on two consecutive weekends each month at the state-of-the-art campus of O.P Jindal Global University at Sonipat, Haryana. The university arranges transport from New Delhi for these classes.

The aim of a JGU education is to “ Imagine , Innovate and Integrate”. JGBS post-graduate programmes focus on developing a global perspective to business, management, and leadership, in the context of a multi-disciplinary global University combining the strengths of three professional schools.

“Over time, JGBS seeks to play a leading role in the development of a transnational knowledge economy through interdisciplinary, inter-jurisdictional, and timely research pursued by the various research centres of the School.”

Professor Sunanda SangwanAssistant Dean (Research)

At JGBS, research is pursued under various research centres - all with the focus on creating knowledge for modern organizations.

Research Centres

APPLIED FINANCE

The Centre for Applied Finance aims to define, explore and assess the emerging issues and their implications for the profitability of financial market intermediaries, the stability of the financial system, and the welfare of financial service consumers. The centre’s main areas of focus include banking, insurance, investment management, risk management, pension funds, the operation of financial markets and other related topics.

CORPORATE GOVERNANCE & APPLIED ETHICS

The centre aspires to become the leading multi-stakeholder, globally oriented research platform in India, in the field of corporate governance and applied ethics. It will strive to be a centre of excellence for both theoretical and applied research.

DIGITAL MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS

The centre seeks to create and disseminate knowledge for effective digital media management in a business studies context through innovative and cross-disciplinary research, and interactions with leaders in academia, business and government. The centre is focused on (but not restricted to) areas of e-commerce and e-governance. Other themes include interactive marketing, social media content and users, e-Learning, and games for training and education.

16 | JINDAL GLOBAL BUSINESS SCHOOL

Page 17: JGBS Programme Information Brochure

FAMILY BUSINESS & WEALTH CREATION

The Centre for Family Business & Wealth Creation is designed to help and deliver research based programmes that will serve to strengthen families in business through business process reengineering, contemporaneous business strategy formulation, ownership and professional succession planning, family leadership training and legacy building. This centre appreciates the pivotal role that resources unique to a family firm can play in a company’s survival and success, and help it achieve a position of competitive advantage in its business domain.

EMERGING ECONOMIES & MARKETS

The centre aims to monitor and develop a comprehensive understanding of emerging economies and in particular the impact it might have on the Indian economy. Emerging and fast developing economies present a great opportunity for multinationals, investors, and entrepreneurs but also pose a threat to jobs, products and resources. Finding a medium for “Cooptition” as Joseph Stiglitz would refer to it, and fostering it is our central objective. The centre will maintain the largest regional database on emerging countries which will foster the understanding of short-term and long-term trends in potential sectors in these countries.

INNOVATIVE LEADERSHIP & CHANGE

The centre is conceived as an entity which will not merely address “Leadership” as a separate subject of debate and study, but instead tackle the integral question: What does it take to be an effective Leader operating in a global context of customers, suppliers, competitors and regulatory environments; What do you need to know? How must you learn to think and act, in order to successfully be a Leader? In other words , the Centre is not simply dedicated to the study of “Leadership” per se – isolated from the rest of senior management responsibility for planning, organizing and controlling. Rather, it is all about helping prepare the global leaders of tomorrow to assume responsibility and accountability in equal measure, today.

NEW CONSUMER TREND STUDIES

The centre has been established to bring new insights on consumer behaviour by conducting innovative research on various aspects of consumption patterns, shopping, new media, social media, retail formats, and unusual factors. The centre will also engage in knowledge dissemination to all stakeholders including consumers, retailers, marketers and researchers.

SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

One of the basic premises of entrepreneurship involves innovation to meet the existing demand-supply gap. Given the lack of access to basic amenities like healthcare and education by a majority of the population in India, the need for creating a breed of trained individuals who can take initiative and facilitate in making the essential services available to the local communities, cannot be overemphasized. This centre seeks to further this end by:

• Imparting entrepreneurs with the essential know-how• Incubating ventures.

INFRASTRUCTURE, ENERGY & GREEN TECHNOLOGY

This centre seeks to assess the current and future state of the national infrastructure, identify and prioritize opportunities, and make strategic policy recommendations. The current research focus spans South Asian countries.

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT & LOGISTICS

This centre aims to achieve research and education excellence in the field of SCM and Logistics, by offering research driven consultancy to organizations. With this objective the focus areas of the centre are:

• Establishing a strong research team with a special focus on a particular industry of choice

• Promoting outcome-based research looking at analyzing implementations that result in major savings and benchmarking of best practices.

At JGBS, we believe that the transformation of potential into leadership can be realized through collective engagement with a diverse world, and preparedness for a multicultural and global environment. Just as diversity of opinion is nurtured within the classroom, we welcome and embrace student diversity - nationalities, gender, interests, cultures and perspectives.

Anand MishraAssistant Dean (Student Initiatives)

Page 25: JGBS Programme Information Brochure

At JGBS, we embrace and nurture the diversity among students in terms of their distinct personalities, experience and ambition. Rather than trying to create homogenized individuals with a similar set of aspirations, we seek to leverage their diversity and enhance the overall standard of managerial competence and scholarship suited to individual needs and aspirations.

Student Council acts as an interface between the student body and the faculty and administration. The Council contributes to making the classroom experience and campus community life as rewarding to the students as possible.

Student Placement Committee keeps in close touch with industry to map the skill sets required by organizations in different for-profit or non-profit sectors. This committee aggregates the ‘wish list’ of the organizations students may want to work for and works towards getting their peers placed in the organizations of their choice.

Student Cultural Committee plans and organizes many social events on campus, including “Rage” – an annual cultural event.

Students Clubs centred on academic subjects like Finance or Marketing, and on industry sectors like Real Estate etc. allow students to share their knowledge with the entire JGU community.

“JGBS has a noble ambition to be truly global in its student body, faculty, curriculum and education. That ambition should serve the business school well in attracting top quality students and faculty from around the world and, in doing so, setting new standards of excellence for an Indian based institution of higher learning.”

O.P. Jindal Outstanding Merit Scholarship

Each year, the top five meritorious students, subject to financial requirements, are awarded Rs.1,00,000 each per year in the form of tuition fee waivers. Naveen Jindal Young Global Scholarship

This scholarship is granted to one student per batch based on the overall candidate profile - combination of academics, financial conditions, and extra-curricular activities. This scholarship involves an award of Rs.5,00,000, granted in the form of a tuition fee waiver. Extension of this scholarship is subject to fulfillment of performance requirements in the first year courses.

Shallu Jindal Outstanding Women Scholarship

The Assistantships are offered in exchange for four hours of weekly work to students, based on their areas of interest. Recipients can either partake in research centre activities or help in certain administrative affairs of the B-School. JGBS supports the financial requirements of pursuing higher education through scholarships and assistanceships. Students are encouraged to apply for the same.

Financial Assistance

“Tomorrow’s leaders will have to address thorny issues of climate change, global governance and massive demographic shifts, among others. Professor Lydia J. PriceProfessor of MarketingChina Europe International Business School (CEIBS), Shanghai
