Advent is a time to build up catholic family life and strengthening our parish com- munity. New Year's Day is a point of the potential shaping of a per- sons chosen mode of existence and moral stance with respect to the rest of the world. It brings to us anticipation and expectations of the coming year. It invites a spiritually cathartic time of reflection, offers us hope for change and invites us to make new choices. Resolutions can become reality, when we turn to the One who makes it possible, the One who truly makes all things new, Jesus Christ the Lord. He alone makes it possible, by shar- ing His Life with us. This gift is called grace - and through receiving this grace we become what the Apostle Peter called "Partakers of the Divine Nature". Grand Knight’s Message (Cont. from Front Page)

"For I do not do the good I want, but I do the evil I do not want. Now if (I) do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me... Miserable one that I am! Who will deliver me from this mor-tal body?" Fortunately, he answered the question a few lines later in the letter, "Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ!" As we look to the New Year we have to understand that our choices truly matter. However, our ability to always choose what is true and good and beautiful was fractured by the effects of the first sin. On the first day of the New Year Catholic Christians celebrate the Feast of the Solemnity of the Moth-er of God. They do so for a reason. This is no liturgical accident. She who beheld the face of the Savior in-vites us to hear the words of her Son and Savior Jesus Christ, "Behold I make all things new"! (Rev. 21:5) Jesus alone can fulfill the desire which is really at the heart of the New Year's celebrations, and help us, by His saving grace, to make them become reality. Mary is sometimes referred to in Catholic circles as the Mother of the New Creation because the One whom she held in her womb is the only One who makes all things new! Millions will utter sincere words on New Year's Eve and Day, promising to do better this year. Lists will be compiled - and promises made - to oneself, to others and to God. Sadly, many will not be kept. These words attributed to Mark Twain too often ring true "New Y ear's Day - now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual." But, this year can be different, if we turn to Jesus. If we turn to Jesus as we reflect on the gifts he has brought us with gratitude to God, and resolve to do better in the coming year, we are also seeking to make the meaning of it become the pattern of our life. The full phrase opens the door to beginning again and again and again, "let it be it done unto me - according to your word." (Luke 1:38)

Happy New Year! May the Lord Bless you and your family in the coming year. V ivat Jesus!

Knights Corner Knights throughout our community must come forward and take an active part in our activities and events. Far more action of an ecumenical nature is needed. As Knights of Columbus, our prime responsibility is to encourage and promote that action in support of our council, our parish and our community. Upcoming events for January that need more Knights and their families to par-ticipate and work are: The Altar & Ro-sary Society break-fast on January 6th; Bingo in support of the St. Thomas Aquinas Rosary Makers on January 13th

Every Knight is called to respond to the challenges facing our families, church and communities. To accomplish this we, as a

council and as Knights of Colum-bus, must rededicate ourselves to our mis-sion of service for the Church. The Knights of Colum-bus was founded to strengthen the Cath-olic family, our church, and our com-munity. As the New Year begins let us rededicate our time, talents and resources to help our parishes become beacons of the new evangeliza-

tion.

Prayer for Vocations

O Father, you desire all of us to be happy. Stir up the grace of a religious vocation in the hearts

of many men and women. Grant to them the willingness and generosity

to give of themselves, their lives, their time and their talents to the service of Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord and

Savior, and to His Holy Church.

May more men and women go forth as priests, deacons, brothers and sisters to bring the truths of our Catholic faith

to all others so that soon they, too, may know You better and love You more...

and serving You, be truly happy. Amen.

Please keep all our seminarians in your prayers --- Brother Knights Timothy Meurer, Christian Murphy, and Joseph Baltz; and Jordan

Sánchez. More info and links of interest

January is the month of the Holy Name of Jesus This month is dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus. "In the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth and under the earth" (Phil 2:10). The name Jesus, chosen in heaven, is announced when the Angel Gabriel informs the Blessed Virgin of the incarnation: "Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb and shalt bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus." The name Jesus has marvelous implications, for it means "Savior." The very name bespeaks the magnitude of our Lord’s mission, of His infinite love, which is a love so immense that He offers Him-self up for the salvation of each of us. The name of Jesus is the sweetest of all names, and He who bears it is most worthy of all our love. He who calls Jesus his friend can be assured that this friend is the most devoted, merciful and gener-ous of all friends.

Jesus is our all. In His name we pray to God our Father with the assurance of being heard. In His name the Church administers all her sacraments. In His name she offers all her prayers and blesses homes, the earth, and the sick. In the name of Jesus she casts out evil spirits, and at the hour of our death she bids us, "Go forth, Christian soul." Holy Mother Church assures us that whoever shall call upon the name of Jesus will be saved. When our soul departs this life to seek our eternal home, the Church asks in the name of Jesus, "Eternal rest give unto your child, O Lord."
