Engine Starting

The Starting division design,manufacture, assemble anddistribute Air, Spring, Hydraulic &Nitrogen starting solutions for dieselengines up to 320 litres. IPU startingsolutions provide independent orblack-start capability in sub-zeroand demanding environmentsanywhere in the world, particularly inhazardous or explosive offshoreenvironments.

Hydraulic start packages

• Hydraulic starting systems are suitable for engines up to 150 litres

• Independent or back-up start system in sub-zero conditions or hazardous areas

Nitrogen start packages

• Suitable for engines up to 320 litres

• Compact, primary or back-up starting using exchangeable bottles for hazardous area applications

Spring starters

• Spring starters are suitable for enginesup to 14 litres

• Simple alternative or back-up startsystem for most applications

Engine Control

The Engine Control divisionrepresents a wide range ofelectronic products and componentsfor diesel and gas engines and theirapplications from stand by powergeneration, industrial engines, off-highway vehicles, constructionmachinery and marine engines.

The Engine Control team of sales engineers hasextensive market experience in engine and generatorapplications and is fully qualified to advise on thesuitable selection of a wide range of products andsolutions.

Engine shutdown solenoids

• The dual coil engineshutdown solenoid isdesigned to allow asolenoid to be heldenergised for long periodsof time withoutoverheating. A highlyefficient compact solenoidapproximately half the sizeof a comparable single coildc solenoid

GreenGuard

• GreenGuard is a webbased fleet managementand data gathering systemfor mobile and stationaryengine driven applicationssuch as gen-sets, pumps,compressors, cranes andconstruction equipment

• Provides remotesupervision, GPSpositioning, alert functionsvia SMS or email andmaintenance / serviceforecasting and reporting

AVR’s IPU supplies an extensive range of high quality Automatic VoltageRegulators. The range includes aftermarket replacement AVR’s forLeroy Somer, Newage, Mecc Alte, Basler, Marathon and manyothers, as well as universal aftermarket regulators. OriginalEquipment regulators compatible with all brushless type alternatorsare also available.

Electronic governing

Engine Heating

IPU Group represents Kim Hotstartdiesel engine pre-heating solutions.These specialist engine blockheaters are designed to pre-heatdiesel engines making them easierand quicker to start, deliver fullpower immediately as well as reduceengine wear, emissions and fuelconsumption.

The IPU Engine Heating experts can specify the perfectsolution for your application from a wide range ofengine coolant heaters including tank style, directimmersion and forced circulating systems. Ranges ofoil and battery pad heaters are also available.

Diesel and oil heating

• Oil heaters offer an immediate flow ofwarm oil – heating critical engine partsby convection

• Stops destructive condensation andthe forming of sludge in oil

Battery heating pads and blankets

• Battery warming pads and thermalblankets help to keep the battery warmwhich helps to improve crankingpower in the coldest conditions

• Engineered to maintain batteries at80°F/27°C to ensure full crankingcapability

• A fully charged battery has around40% cranking power at 0°F comparedto 100% cranking power at 80°F

Engine coolant pre-heating

• Tank style coolant heaters are an externally mounted one piece, heavy duty, pressure die cast aluminium tank with a bolt on flange element assembly

• The heaters are designed to preheat the coolant by the thermo-sython principle - as thecoolant is heated in the chamber, the warmed coolant rises and is forced upwards throughthe piping into the engine coolant block

• Various wattages and voltages available

• Also available - Direct immersion heaters which fit directly into the coolant block via a coreplug and for larger applications forced circulating heating systems incorporating pumps

Oil Conditioning

The IPU Group Oil Conditioningdivision is a specialist team withextensive knowledge of all forms ofengine and industrial filtration.

IPU Oil Conditioning products can help to extend thelife of engine, transmission and hydraulic oils byremoving harmful contaminants and by monitoring andanalysing contamination levels and properties.

Oil condition sensor

The oil condition sensor measures thedielectric constant or relative permittivityof the oil with the sensor functioning asa variable capacitor and the oil formingthe dielectric. The sensor is able toaccurately measure any deterioration inthe oil quality from the accumulation ofsolid and liquid contaminants.

Air filtration systems

• Farr air filters have been providing airfiltration products since the early1960’s

• High efficiency air filters with a ratedaverage efficiency of 99.95% helpreduce servicing costs and improveengine performance

Hydraulic filtration systems

Racor ParFit interchangeable hydraulic elementsfeature a standard metal housing and replaceableelement – allowing the filter to be changed duringroutine maintenance reducing both waste disposaland element replacement costs.

• Conforms to ISO standards and theinternationally recognized multi-pass test

Extended Oil Life System (EOLS)

The IPU Extended Oil Life System combines the dual action of filtration and evaporation to remove harmful solid and liquid contamination from a wide variety of oils.

• Extends oil life by up to 4 times • Reduces wear and damage to the engine• Reduces oil usage and disposal costs• Minimises the likelihood of unpredictable maintenance

On-Site Analyser (OSA)

The OSA oil analyser is a portable oil sample ‘laboratory in abox’ providing comparable diagnostic capability to that of atraditional laboratory – without the same major investment.

Fuel Conditioning

The IPU Fuel Conditioning divisionprovides a complete range ofproducts and services designed todetect and eradicate harmful dieselfuel contamination. The rangeincludes products for bulk fuelstorage, on application fuel systemprotection and mobile solutions.

Using the latest fuel testing and diagnostic techniques,the IPU Fuel Conditioning team can identify precisecauses of fuel contamination problems and, drawing onsignificant experience in the fuel industry, recommenda fuel management programme suitable for anyapplication.

Diesel Defence fuel polishing systems

The range of Diesel Defence fuel-polishing systems offers a simple andreliable solution to the problem ofkeeping stored fuel ‘clean and dry’ andfree from contamination. The constantlyrecirculated fuel is efficiently filtered toremove water and particle contaminants,maintaining optimum fuel condition at alltimes.

All units are designed to run on a ‘standalone’ basis and are available with basic7 day timer or advanced remote controland monitoring.

Diesel Defence fuel polishing units willprotect diesel fuel quality on any day orbulk storage tank and are ideal forstandby gen-set, fire pump, agricultural,construction or marine use.

Fuel purifiner

The IPU Fuel Purifiner acts as a ‘first lineof defence’ against contaminated fuel onapplications where fuel quality isunpredictable. Ideal for rental, plant andagricultural applications, the FuelPurifiner will remove harmful watercontamination from even the dirtiest,most contaminated fuel preventingexpensive damage and equipment downtime.

Fuel testing service

Using state of the artequipment and globally recognizedmethods and standards, the IPU FuelTesting Service will provide you withaccurate, reliable fuel quality reports. We can even interpret the results for youand recommend a corrective actionplan. On site, instant, tank side testing is also available for diesel bug detection and fuel cleanliness.

Mobile fuel polishing

The IPU fuel-polishing buggy is a lightweight mobile unit ideal for on-sitecleaning of fuel tanks, drums andbowsers and incorporates the state-of-the-art Parker Racor FBL fuel filterseparator element to remove potentiallydamaging particulate contaminants andwater from the diesel fuel. Tank mountedsystems are also available from IPU.

Racor water / fuel separators

Racor fuel filter water separators aredesigned for use on diesel, petrol andother internal combustion engines andhave been protecting engines fromwater, particles and other contaminantsfor over 30 years.

• Turbine and Spin-on series bothfeature see-through collection bowlsand the ability to replace filterelements

• Engineered filter media protects fuelinjection systems and reduce thechance of premature engine failure orwear

Predator™ 8000 fuel biocide

Predator 8000 is a broad spectrum fuelbiocide suitable for treatment andprevention of microbial growth in fueltanks and systems. Suitable for diesel(including bio-diesel blends), FAME, GasOil and Residual Fuel Oils it can be usedat a standard dose rate as part of a fuelquality management programme, or anincreased dose rate to kill off existing‘diesel bug’ contamination.

Case study – Engine manufacturerA large multi-national engine manufacturer was seeking a company that could provide a strategicsourcing resource for both fast moving parts and niche purchases. The company was finding thatits existing purchasing department was stretched and lacking in specialist knowledge of dieselengine components and accessories. The IPU procurement specialists were happy to step in tosupplement the company’s existing sourcing team and provide a collaborative approach to supplychain management. IPU Group now source and supply many of the company’s mainstream enginerelated components and well as ‘hard to find’ items, including:Temperature sensors, coolant switches, fuel level gauges, start/stop switches, battery isolators,pumps, fuel filtration, engine coolant heaters.
