1 - LEMANIA’s Origin, Location and Mission

Located in the heart of the Canton de Vaud, LEMANIA College belongs to the LEMANIA Swiss Group of Schools (LSGS). Founded in 1908, LSGS has built a great reputation in the educational sector. Our philosophy concentrates on high quality standards in education, and on respect and fairness.

Our mission is to provide students with an international higher-secondary education and let them benefit from a cross-cultural environment governed by fairness, politeness, and mutual respect. We believe that curiosity about cultural differences leads to discovering the values of these differences which then can be better understood and thus perceived with empathy and tolerance.

6 - TechnologyTechnology is omnipresent, touching almost every part of our lives, our communities, and our homes. At LEMANIA College we use technology extensively in our classrooms as a tool to enhance our learning experience. Integrating technology into classroom instruction means more than teaching basic computer skills in a separate computer class. Our use of technology supports four key components of learning:- active engagement- participation in groups- frequent interaction and feedback- connection to real-world experts.

7 - Boarding SchoolLEMANIA College considers that an excellent boarding school must foster a family atmosphere in which every student can feel happy and confident.

3 - LEMANIA’s structure of the IB Programme

LCL offers two programmes within the context of the IB Programme and this for students aged 15 and above. Both of our programmes are complementary and taught in English.

Preparatory Class (PC) caters for students who wish to learn English or improve their English language skills, mathematical reasoning, to have the opportunity of conducting scientific experiments in the laboratory, and of exploring the Human Sciences topics. The structure of these courses ensures that a balance be maintained between academic and social aspects. The PC is a one-year programme that prepares for entry into the IB DP.

International Baccalaureate – Diploma Programme (IBDP) The IBDP is an educational programme, which is academically challenging and balanced. Final examinations prepare students for success at university and for life in general. The programme has been designed to enhance the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well-being of students. The programme has gained recognition and respect from the world’s leading universities. The International Baccalaureate – Diploma Programme (IBDP) spreads over 2 years. www.ibo.org

4 - A Gateway to the WorldThe International Baccalaureate Diploma is recognised worldwide. Graduates of the International Baccalaureate have the advantage of being able to apply to any university of their choice. In 2013 an estimated 100’000 IB graduates went on to postsecondary studies and since that number has continued to rise. In the past 10 years IB graduates have applied to well over 5’000 different higher education institutions in more than 100 countries. Extensive research has shown that IB graduates are more likely to go on to higher education than graduates having completed other university entrance programmes. It has also been demonstrated that IB graduates outperform their peers in a higher education environment. More information about the above statements can be found at www.ibo.org/research

nationalities is an enriching experience that develops open mindedness and connections with people from other cultures.

Life in the LEMANIA boarding school is conducive to educate students to be even more responsible, productive, and ethical citizens.

Students live in the boarding school with others of the same gender and age. The director manages and oversees all activities. University graduates, mainly from the EPFL, the UNIL, the Ecole des Beaux Arts, assist the director. These assistants are thus equipped to supervise home work with regard to mathematics, physics, and chemistry, literature, and the arts. They are highly responsible and more than qualified in the disciplines taught at LEMANIA College.

The LEMANIA College boarding school “family” size, means that integrating newly arrived students, and for them to make friends, is made easy.

8 Reasons for Choosing LEMANIA College for the IB Diploma Programme

2 - IB World School LCL is proud to be an authorized IB World School. The International Baccalaureate Organisation is a non-profit educational foundation, motivated by its mission and focused on its students.

The IB Organisation offers four programmes, one of which being the IB Diploma Programme. All programmes have one thing in common: they not only prepare students for academic success but also for life in general. The programmes have been designed to enhance the intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills in preparation for being professionally operational and successful in an ever-increasing global environment.

The International Baccalaureate Programme was launched in 1968. The IB Organisation is currently working with 3’805 schools in 147 countries to develop and offer four challenging programmes to over 1’190’000 students aged 3 to 19 years. www.ibo.org

To become an authorized IB World School, LCL had to undergo two years of self-evaluation, reflections and modifications at all levels.

5 - Our teaching and learning methods

Our teaching and learning methods are one of our major keys to success. With regard to the students, our teaching and learning methods increase their ability in two fundamental areas: - It allows them to achieve their academic goals - It allows them to acquire an international

language permitting them to be effectively operational in a global and professional environment.

With regard to the professors, our teaching methods provide a foundation for comprehensive and accurate assessment.

Our objective is to challenge our students by encouraging them to become responsible for their own learning, whilst, at the same time, instilling enthusiasm and motivation for success.

8 - TestimoniesStudents are our best publicity!

In addition, the fact that students come from different countries is an amazing thing in terms of culture, language and tradition. ” Jawad (Swiss)
