Water is the most simplest and common substance on the Earth. However, it holds a plenty of secrets. At present, scientists continue analyzing qualities of water. They find more and more interesting facts about it.

Definition: Water is a chemical compound with the chemical formula H2O.

A water molecule consist of one oxygen (O) and two hydrogen (H) atoms

1. Water as a chemical compound

Page 4: Interesting facts about water

WATER is very important for the life of animals, plants, people. All living beings consist of WATER.

2.1 The amount of water in several organisms The following list shows the amount of water in different organisms: animals – 75% fish – 75% Jelly-fish –99% potatoes - 76%apples - 85% tomatoes -90% cucumbers - 95%melon -96%.Human newborn child- 86%Elderly people - <50%

2.THE ROLE of WATER

Page 5: Interesting facts about water

Water could SAVE or KILL.

Be careful! 85% of all diseases in the world are transferred through

water! Every year 25.000.000 people dies because of those diseases!!!

2.2 Water as a cause of DEATH

2. From hot water to ice. To get ice from HOT water, firstly, it should get cold. Why couldn’t we use already COLD water? Surprisingly, many experiments showed that hot water could turn into ice faster than cold water.

3. Water freezes under 0°C, boils at 100°C.

However , VERY pure water could stay liquid with freezing temperature!!!

3.1. Physical forms of water1.Water appears in nature in 3 common states of matter -solid, liquid, and gas.  However, scientists distinguish 5 different states of water in liquid and 14 states in solid form.

3. WATER.PHYSICAL ASPECTS

Page 7: Interesting facts about water

Under -120°C - water becomes sticky and thick

Under -135°C - water becomes similar to GLASS( solid and without crystal structure).

3.2 When water is like a glass

Water could be DANGEROUS. For instance, in Azerbaijan, there is water which could go up in flames because of a great amount of methane in it.
