In this Hands-on Labs module, you will learn how to install RHEL 5. You’ll also learn how to perform post-installation configuration e.g., upgrade the system with new patches and bug fixes, configure static IP address from dynamic one, change the computer hostname, modify hosts file, perform ping test among others. Finally, Administering Linux and Unix-based servers does not need to be the scourge of your work day. With a handy tool called Webmin as part of your arsenal, you can regain full control of your servers’ setup and configuration via the Web browser. So in the final analysis, I will show you how to install Webmin to add teeth and clout in taking control of administrating your servers. In the Hands-on Lab assignment you’ll have an opportunity to install a Web server (httpd), MySQL server, PostgreSQL server and PHP. Other assignments include installing DNS server, DHCP server and other assignments. The entire lab training was performed on VMware.

Part 1: Install RHEL 5 1. Insert RHEL5 DVD or CDROM 1 into CD/DVD drive and reboot the computer. 2. From Fig. 1, press the <ENTER> key, to start loading the packages and installing RHEL 5.

3. From Fig. 2, if this your first time to use this RHEL5 CD/DVD then select OK, and press the

<ENETER> key, to test the CD media and check & verify that it was not in anyway damaged or corrupted during the download or burning stages. Otherwise click Skip to continue.

6. From Fig. 5, select the language you desired to use during installation process, and then click Next.

7. From Fig. 6, select the appropriate keyboard for the system as desired, and then click Next.

8. On the next Screen, you will be prompted to enter your Installation Number or Skip entering Installation Number and do it later.
