Introduction Oracle Data Integrator is a data integration platform from Oracle designed to be the best in the data integration class of tools. It compiles the data available in an organization across all its IT systems so that both structured and unstructured data in various formats can be used to improve the organization’s effectiveness. Oracle Data Integrator suite is the only tool that can run within a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and is hot pluggable, which can operate on a wide range of middleware technologies supporting multiple application servers. Some of the features include enhanced parallelism, full support for XML schema objects, Data Quality Integration, Global Knowledge Modules, Enhanced Session Logging and Variable Handling, Smart Export and Import, and seamless Oracle GoldenGate Integration. Oracle Data Integrator can be integrated with corporate identity manager tools for authentication delegation. Oracle Data Integrator 12c also provides a flow-based declarative user interface design for flexibility unlike the set-based predecessor ODI 11g. This in turn converts the flow-based mapping into required code to implement the data integration flow. A step-by-step debugging tool can be used for better insight into execution. This data may reside on Oracle databases or on other systems, or out on the web. ODI can bring it all together so people can make sense of it and use the data to take action to improve business performance. Along with BI Applications, Apps Associates also has implementation expertise in custom data integration solutions using ODI 11g and 12c where customers have brought together large sets of data from a variety of structured and unstructured data sources. What are ODI BI Applications? Oracle has recently launched its most significant Business Intelligence (BI) Applications release, version 11.1.1.7. Oracle BI Applications are designed to provide users in departments such as Finance, HR and Supply Chain with the business information and analytic tools they need to run their operation. Previous versions of Oracle BI Applications relied on data integration tools from Informatica but with this latest release, Oracle now employs its own data integration tool ODI 11g. This tool helps users to extract the data they need from IT systems across the organization, load it into the BI Applications, and transform it so that it can be used to create meaningful and actionable business reports. www.appsassociates.com Implementing Data Integration & Business Intelligence Solutions Using Oracle Data Integrator 11g & 12c

What are the Benefits of ODI 11g?

There are two major benefits of using the new Oracle Data Integrator. The first is that it uses no additional, dedicated hardware for data transformation so it reduces costs for IT organizations. The second is that it is much faster than the Informatica tool that Oracle used to recommend with previous versions of OBI Apps.

These benefits arise from the new approach of extracting the data from its source system, loading the data into the database, and then transforming it into the correct format (E-LT). This replaces the old approach of extracting the data from the source system, transforming it using a dedicated ETL engine, and then loading the transformed data into the database.

Additional benefits include much simpler and faster setup using the new Configuration Manager and Functional Setup Manager tools. ODI also provides complete data lineage from data source to analysis, enabling users to track the origin of their data and to understand any transformations that may have been applied to it. Finally, ODI is integrated with Oracle Golden Gate which gives near real-time data refresh and is ideal for users whose ETL or ELT times are close to the available data update window.

Upgrade PathThere is no automatic upgrade path from Oracle BI Apps 7.9.x to 11g so customers will have to re-implement BI Apps. There is also no automated migration from Informatica to ODI. If your implementation has minimal customizations, it might be straightforward to upgrade but you might need help with more complex, customized implementations.

Apps Associates Services for ODIApps Associates is a leading provider of IT consulting and implementation services with experience in implementing BI Apps 11g and migrating from Oracle BI Apps 7.9.x to 11g. With experience in both BI Apps 7.9.x and11g, and data lineage tools based on 7.9.x, we help customers move customizations to 11g much faster.
