FellowFellows will have met the requirements for

admission as a Member and in addition they

will have demonstrated significant individual

responsibility, sustained achievement and

professionalism in areas relevant to the

interests of the IET to a level required by the

Board of Trustees. Fellows are entitled to use

the designatory letters FIET (Fellow of the

Institution of Engineering and Technology).

Honorary Fellow Honorary Fellows are elected by the IET Board

of Trustees. Honorary Fellows are:

a. persons distinguished by their work in any

engineering discipline falling within the

objects and purposes of the IET, or

b. distinguished persons whom the IET desires

to honour for services rendered to the IET or

whose association is of benefit to the IET

Honorary Fellows shall be entitled to use the

designatory letters HonFIET*(Honorary Fellow

of the Institution of Engineering and Technology).

Career Manager

In your career - you could have ten jobs,change companies six times, movedisciplines two or three times, work abroadfor four or five years, attend 20 coursesand run 15 projects. Wouldn’t it be helpfulto keep your total career record in oneplace, accessible anytime, anywhere?

Career Manager is the IET’s onlineskills development and recording tool. Career and personal development ismade easier through skill profilingagainst recognised competenceframeworks, and using one centralplace to collate all your careerinformation, achievements andexperience. You can also prepare and submit your application for professional registration online using Career Manager.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

The IET has introduced a voluntary (opt-in) CPD monitoring scheme, available toTMIETs, MIETs and FIETs. This scheme aims to enhance CPDsupport for you through improvedguidance and feedback.

By joining the scheme, you will benefit from:

■ having an up-to-date CPD plan and record of activities undertaken. By using Career Manager to record your CPD, you will have alifelong record of your professionaldevelopment to draw on throughoutyour career.

■ generic feedback about the CPDscheme, allowing you to benchmarkyourself against how much and whattype of CPD is undertaken by othermembers of the scheme.

■ tailored written feedback on your CPD records through peer review(if selected for monitoring).

■ being able to demonstrate compliancewith the IET’s CPD requirements toyour employer, colleagues and clients.

Initial Professional Development (IPD)

The IET provides guidance and support specifically for members working toward professional registration through our IPD Service.

This service aims to provide support for members through improved guidance and information aboutcompetence development andprofessional registration.

By joining the service, you will benefit from:

■ having an up-to-date plan and recordof your competence. By using CareerManager to record your competence,you will have a record of your progressand be able to identify the areaswhere you still need to develop.

■ a single point of contact for anysupport or generic feedback about your IPD progress and guidance on the next steps to take.

Professional Registration

Professional Registration is formalrecognition that you have met standardsof knowledge, understanding andcompetence set by the EngineeringCouncil. IET Fellows and Members canapply for registration with theEngineering Council through the IET.

The different categories are:

CEng – Chartered EngineerCEng is aimed at all engineers who havethe ability to develop appropriate solutionsto engineering problems, using new andexisting technologies, through innovation,creativity and change.

IEng – Incorporated EngineerEngineers who have IEng havedemonstrated they have the competencesto maintain and manage applications ofcurrent and developing technology, andmay undertake engineering design,development, manufacturing, construction and operation.

EngTech – Engineering TechnicianEngTech’s may have a supervisory ortechnical responsibility, and arecompetent to exercise creative aptitudesand skills within defined fields oftechnology.

ICTTech – ICT TechnicianICTTech will provide formal recognitionof your knowledge, understanding andexperience in supporting and deliveringinformation and communicationssolutions to the business.

CITP - Chartered IT ProfessionalCITP demonstrates a broad awarenessacross IT, a depth of knowledge in aparticular area of specialism and isunderpinned by periodic revalidation.The IET is licensed by the BCS to award CITP.

CMgr - Chartered ManagerThe IET has partnered with CMI to offer IET members a route to qualify as a Chartered Manager. If you're registeredas Chartered Engineer (CEng) orIncorporated Engineer (IEng) and have five years or more managementexperience, you are eligible for CMI’s qualified route to becoming a Chartered Manager.

Professional registration demonstrates toyour employer and peers, yourcommitment to the profession and toprofessional standards. Becomingprofessionally registered providesrecognition of your expertise and offersyou higher earnings potential, improvedcareer prospects and greater influencewithin your organisation and industry.

Facilities and venues

IET London: Savoy Place is closed for a majorrefurbishment until autumn 2015, and duringthis time has co-located member serviceswith the Institution of Mechanical Engineers at One Birdcage Walk in Westminster.

As a member you will have complimentaryaccess to the IET library, a members’lounge and a state-of-the-art computersuite. IET staff are also on-site to assist withany research requirements you may have.

When our building reopens, members willhave access to the brand new KnowledgeCentre and Library, a wide range of spacesto meet and study and an improved KelvinLounge Café.
