Next Generation Design OptimisationRapid processing of complex building models for optimal design and strategic decision making

Page 2: Ies Consulting Optimise Flyer

At key stages of any new build or refurbishment design process you need feedback on the performance of different options to guide decision making. Now with exclusive access to cutting-edge optimisation tools, IES Consulting can deliver rapid feedback on numerous form, construction and HVAC permutations enabling your team to choose an optimal configuration.

Past are the days of assessing only a few options through simulation, now it is possible to assess tens of thousands of scenarios while automatically scoring the results against selected objectives. IES Consulting can help you implement this service at key stages of your design process allowing you to answer your design questions with certainty and deliver a truly optimal design.

IES Consulting will assess against your specified criteria, determining the impact they have on each other using sophisticated Pareto Efficiency calculations, delivering a trade-off curve which enables you to understand the return of potential solutions. The Optimise assessment forms part of the overall analysis service IES Consulting can provide to help your design.

Next Generation Design OptimisationOur latest IES Consulting service helps you realise rapid processing of complex building models for optimal design and strategic decision making.

Assessment Criteria (We can assess against up to 3 objectives at one time)

Category Objective

Performance Energy - kWh (minimise) Carbon - kgCO

2 (minimise)

Cost Capital Cost (minimse)

Daylight Daylight (maximise) Daylight Uniformity (maximise)

Comfort PPD (minimise) Summer Temperature (minimise)

Air Quality CO2 - ppm (minimise)

Optimisation Variables

> Orientation

> Constructions

> % Window Area

> Infiltration Rate

> Mechanical Ventilation Rate

> Natural Ventilation Rate

> Electric Lighting

> HVAC strategy

> Heating Set Point

> Cooling Set Point

Costs

> Capital Costs based on default Spons data or your own cost database

> Running costs based on optimal scenarios

> Life Cycle costing for optimal choice

Yellow Markers indicate the Pareto front. Each hit is an individual design solution which can be considered further by the design team.

Red Markers indicate sub-optimum design options which are to be discarded

info

In total this produces over 100,000 scenarios. IES Consulting can assess all combinations, reducing the final options under consideration down to the Pareto Efficient solutions which provide the greatest level of value.

IES Consulting, through this new service, can help the design team to rapidly analyse this vast number of permutations. We will automatically filter the configurations that yield an optimal outcome.

Consider an office design wishes to assess the following variations

> 4 external wall types of increasing insulation thickness> 4 glass types of increasing solar control> 5 facade glazing areas> 4 orientations> 3 mechanical supply rates> 4 boiler system efficiencies> 3 infiltration rates> 3 photovoltaic panel areas> 4 lighting designs

Initial Project Assessment

IES will work with you to understand your project requirements and create a pre-assesment report outlining the Optimise scope and deliverables.

Model Building

IES will create a 3D model with your thermal attributes to be assessed. A pre-simulation report will be provided to confirm inputs before the simulations begin.

The Optimise Simulations

The assessment will conduct its search for Pareto efficient solutions. IES will communicate a time estimate on expected completion.

Optimise Review

IES will review the findings and provide feedback on the Pareto Efficient solutions. We will communicate on the next available steps via webinar, including further model evolution and additional simulations that could enhance the findings and guide the design.

Part Processing and Reporting

A detailed review of the Optimise modelling, including reporting on all inputs and results. As part of the assessment and to enhance the Optimise analysis, some results post processing would be provided offering further understanding of the design solutions suggested.

HOW WILL I PAY?

IES Consulting will ensure that you will have cost certainty at each stage in the process. There will be a fixed administration charge for the initial assessment and a fixed fee structure will be agreed prior to starting the main Optimise assessment. This will include the agreed baseline scope of works and a formula for any price variations.
