Suggestion

A site that functions as a rest area which has shade and a nice seating area.The placement is in the walkway infront Lecture Theater 2 because the walkway there is empty and serves no purpose other than functioning as a walkway.It has much more unused potential.This rest area that we are proposing can use that potential and be benefitial for the students.

RationaleSeeing as that students in the campus are constantly looking for comfortable places in the campus to carry out their assignments and studying, it would suffice to say that the campus lacks enough study enhancement areas to accommodate students of all kinds who are currently or eventually will be studying there.

While Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus does offer a great deal of spaces to enhance the students’ learning experience, these spaces are not necessarily catered to the various kinds of students, who would not all wish to study at the same place at the same time every day. For example, not all of students are comfortable sitting in the cold and quiet recesses of the library all the time, especially when it is so congested at times of the day. While places like the library are suitable for students who prefer quiet and more peaceful environments for focused reading and study, many other students are suited towards conducting their projects and discussions in brighter, more open areas, potentially outdoors. On the other hand we have architectural studios, while open almost 24/7 are specially designated towards degree students, while foundation students do not have their own. This often leaves foundation students roaming the halls of the campus looking for an adequate place to carry on with their projects after being evacuated of the architectural studios by the degree students.

As a solution to this, we are proposing a new study enhancement area in the campus which will provide a better, more comfortable space to work for not only more students, but different types of students who would prefer a different environment to study in.

The proposed study enhancement area will be situated in an open area outside of the campus buildings, at the amphitheater. The placement of the study area is owing to the openness of the amphitheater and its accessibility. Here, students will be able to have a new place to conduct discussions, work and study in a brighter, more open environment.

BenefitsThere are various benefits to the proposed project including;

• A more conducive environment for students and lecturers to have discussions

• A proper place for students and lecturers to have tutorials and study groups outside of the campus buildings for those who enjoy working in a sheltered space outdoors.

• Provides additional learning space to the campus which can be utilized by the students and lecturers

• Enhances the learning experience of the students by giving them a comfortable place to conducts their studies

• Utilizes the open spaces of the campus grounds in a conventional fashion

• Doubles its function as a multi-purpose space if required

Needs of the project to clientAs Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus (the client) is a well-known educational institute with a proud name to uphold, it is essential that the campus provides the best environment possible to maintain its image. This means meeting the needs of their students and staff.

As such, it is important that the client caters to as many students possible to ensure that their clientele is kept satisfied.

With the implementation of this project, the client will be providing for more students as well as providing a different learning environment in the same educational institute. With this, more students will feel comfortable with working and learning in the campus, making their stay in Taylor’s University a greater experience.

This project will also provide university staff with additional designated place to conduct tutorials with students. Being easily accessed and comfortable to use, lecturers and students can conveniently meet for tutorial sessions. It also acts as a home for private discussions to be held. With this, staff too will have further ease in conducting their duties, making

for an overall friendlier learning environment.

In meeting the needs of the university staff and students, the reputation of the campus will bloom, making Taylor’s University more popular in the education sector and amongst the public. This will eventually give rise to the numbers of students and staff joining the university, raising its overall efficiency and income.

In conclusion, this project meets and supports the needs of the university and will prove to be an asset in improving Taylor’s University.

Needs of the project to community In context of the community, which refers to the students and staff of the university, the needs are as follows;

• A conducive and comfortable environment to study

• Spaces which are easily accessed and convenient to use

• Catering to various types of students conducting various learning activities

• Sufficient designated spaces to study and work

As students, among the most essential factors which affect the learning experience is the environment which they study in. While the campus provides many spaces for study such as the library, computer labs and classrooms, not all students are comfortable studying in such enclosed environments and usually resort to taking their work elsewhere. With the

Page 15: Ici final

implementation of a study enhancement area such as the proposed project, students who prefer more open areas to work are provided with an ideal space to conduct their discussions and assignments.

Another factor that is important in a student’s learning experience in an educational institute is to have sufficient places to work. Often when students are utilizing classrooms and studios in the campus, their assignments are interrupted by having to move out due to other students having classes scheduled in said studio. This results in students having to pack off and search for another suitable place to carry out their work. The proposed study enhancement area will provide students with extra space to work.

Whilst the campus is full of places to use for classes and projects, many of them are only accessible with permits or through travelling through multiple floors by elevators and stairs. A welcome help would be to provide more easily accessed spaces to conduct tutorials/ discussions/ coursework. Through implementing the proposed project, students/lecturers would have a convenient alternative to having to search the campus for a good place to carry out their business.
