month. Lastly if there is anyone out there that thinks they can act, there are audi-tions for a new movie hitting the Vaal. See inside for more details as it’s go-ing to be great fun.

From us, iced magazine we want to wish all women a happy and satisfy-ing month but please remember to party responsibly.

For a change it’s called a woman’s note, since I’ve been asked to do a note for our readers instead of having franc, a “man” we thought i could do a much better job!!!!!

Ending yet another successful month we have to look back at all the excitement we had for the month. We had such a great time in taking photos at our clients this month, and the excellent service and welcoming vibe made us feel more than warm and welcome, thanx to all you guys. We also attended our first movie premiere “babalas” it was a night filled with fun and laughter

Coming into the month of august i realized its women’s month so, I’m happy to say good luck to all the men out there since its women’s day on the 9th. I think we are more than welcome to do whatever we want whenever we want with no man having any-thing to say …right ladies??? hehehehe!!!! We would also love to hear what you think of our new comic strip that started this

Women’s DayNational Women’s Day is an annual public holiday in South Africa on

9 August. This commemorates the national march of women on this day in 1956 to petition against legislation that required African persons to carry the “pass”, special identification documents which

curtailed an African’s freedom of movement during the apartheid era.On 9 August 1956, 20,000 women staged a march on the Union Buildings

in Pretoria to protest against the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act (commonly known as the pass laws) of 1950. They left bundles of peti-tions containing more than 100 000 signatures at prime minister J.G. Stri-jdom’s office doors. Outside they stood silently for 30 minutes, many with their children on their backs. The women sang a protest song that was com-posed in honour of the occasion: Wathint’Abafazi Wathint’imbokodo!(Now you have touched the women, you have struck a rock.). In the 54 years since, the phrase (or its latest incarnation: “you strike a woman, you strike a rock”) has come to represent women’s courage and strength in South

Africa.The march was led by

Lilian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Rahima Moosa and Sophie Williams.

Other participants included Frances Baard, a statue of whom was unveiled by Northern Cape Premier Hazel Jenkins in Kimberley(Frances Baard District Municipality) on National Women’s Day 2009.

Since 9 August 1994, the day has been com-memorated annually and is known as “Women’s Day” in South Africa. In 2006, a reenactment of the march was staged for its 50th anniversary, with many of the 1956 march veterans.

e I have always had a love and desire to travel and experience different time zones; and the time has finally come to spread my wings to the beautiful windy city of Cape Town.

I have been waiting for what feels like a lifetime to move away from my home town of Alberton as I am a beach girl at heart (I was born and lived in Durban for a while before venturing up to Joburg) Sun, wind, rain. 4 Seasons in one day and the beach will now become my new home for the time being.

And just when my excitement starts to run wild, the bus wheels screech to a holt and I am reminded of the mountains of furniture and clothing I have to pack up... Boxes, duck tape and broken nails are in store for me these next few weeks, so I have decided to put together a to do list of my favourite ways to pack up. So if you, like me, are moving house I hope this helps make the process more manageable (But hey who am I kidding, moving is tough, especially for a women) I mean not only do we have the “normal” things to move, we also have our one true love, clothing and shoes shoes shoes!

1. Pack an overnight bag containing all the essentials2. Wrap your breakables (dishes, glasses, etc.) in

clothing to save on bubble wrap. We all have enough tops and skirts to fill a truck so put them to good use

3. In addition to labelling what’s in your boxes, add what room they’ll be going into, as well and you can even make it look even prettier by colour coding different rooms (Elle Woods Legally Blonde style)

4. This next tip I wish I had been taught years ago! I have done so much moving around and travelling in the past and it was only the other day someone told me this useful tip. Place an extra cotton pad or ball into your powder cosmetics to keep them from breaking. This could have saved me a few pennies!

5. Take a photo of how your electronics are connected so you can remember how and where all the wires go. This is my favourite tip by far, being a single women I have had many sleepless nights trying to figure out wires and tape, screws and plugs.

Hope this helps all you fellow home movers, the next time I write it will be from windy Cape Town!

What is CrossFit?What is CrossFit?CrossFit is essentially a strength & conditioning program that

is broad, general and inclusive, with its speciality being that of not specialising. It prepares you for the known and the unknown, combat, survival, ALL sports & not to mention life! We train to not suck at life!!

What can I expect?Expect constantly varied, functional movements, at high intensity.

This means that every day you can expect something different from yesterday, from pushing, pulling, lifting, running, jumping etc. We work with compound movements from powerlifting, olympic weightlifting & gymnastic based movements and shorter high intensity cardiovascular sessions. We train in a group so expect a community of like-minded individuals with a common goal in getting stronger, fitter & healthier. Don’t expect machines, we use barbells, bodyweight, sandbags, kettlebells, medicine balls and a number of other objects for our conditioning. It’s real world strength. We also don’t have mirrors, so no posing to take place.

Do I need to be fit to start? You will never be “Fit” enough. Our workouts can be scaled to

meet the needs of all fitness abilities, so if you just starting out, we will scale the workout to fit your abilities. CrossFit is as hard as you make it & fitness is a never ending pursuit.

Is CrossFit for me?For sure!! Your needs & the Olympic athletes differ by degree

not kind. The 10 components of “Fitness” being power, strength, cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, flexibility, stamina, coor-dination, agility, balance, and coordination are as important to the world’s best athletes as they are to the overweight, the sedentary, the sick, casual athletes, and even the elderly.

How do I join?Simple. You give us a call (072 750 6665) and swing by to one of

our free intro classes. From here we will assess your foundations, starting with the squat and working through the various move-ments that will be done in the WOD (workout of the day). You complete the WOD scaled to your abilities, you love it and then come back to join us. EASY!

This humble, hardworking song bird just returned from a successful event in Florida Orlando, so ICED* grabbed a few minutes of her time, so we can get to know this beautiful and friendly local singer.Franc: A lot of people use stage names, is “Judith Kea” a stage name and if so, how did you come up with it?Judith: Yes it is, what a lot of people don’t know is; as teenager I used to perform under the name of Judy-K. As I grew into the woman and the artist I am today, I shook of that young oak and Judith Kea was born. Kea is the first 3 letters of my madden name and uniquely linked to me. Franc: I know you do a wide variety of genres but which one do you prefer?Judith: Wow this is like having a BIG Delicious Pizza in front of you with all your favourite ingredients on and having to choose only one lol. But I must say I love Rocking a Party on old classics from the 80’s! When I write music, you can be sure it will be something strait from the heart! Blunt and Honest, with a positive essence and in some; ‘maybe a lesson learned’. On the album my team and I are working on, you can look forward to a lot of feel good sounds, ‘lekker’ lyrics, and of course Romance! Franc: What is your most embarrassing moment on stage?Judith: Hahaha O my!!! Meaning I have to choose one?! There is so many!! When you’re on stage, more than off, then you can be sure that is a great platform for some interesting embracing moments! Like the one time my bra straps snapped and jumped off from me in a middle of a high speed energizing club song, leaving my sound engineer crawling around on his hands and knees looking for them. Haha or the time I did this dance move down to the floor but when I got back up my dress was stuck to the heel of my stiletto! Leaving me jumping around on stage with one foot haha! But the one that definitely stands out the most, is at a private function. I was asked to sing ‘The Best’ as the VIP came walking inn. It was the first time working with this particular sound crew, and there was no time for sound check. So as I stood there and the VIP came walking in with all the guests standing and cheering, the backtrack started but volume way to low! Never one to give up on a great opening I ran to the sound desk in my thin heal stilettos to push the volume up and run back before the first line starts! OMW, as I came running around the sound desk to the middle of the floor I noticed the surface is really slippery and I probable don’t have the right shoes on for this attempt. But it was too late!! In front of 100+ people I fell down! Landing on the floor in high speed! Still not one to give up, I started singing on queue whilst trying to stand up, instead leaving me spinning around like a great firework display, click click clicking with my heals on the floor! Everyone staring, standing frozen like someone stopped time, some is shocked others wanting to help but not so sure and others red in their faces holding the overflow of laughter back! After REALY trying hard and just finished the first verse entering the Chorus…. Haha I gave inn and stopped. Everyone still staring can’t believe their eyes! I got up, dust myself off, looked at everyone and just started to crack myself! Like one big erup-tion every one as in everyone starting laughing. Needless to say, that night was

amazing and no better way to break the ice!!Franc: Who has been the biggest artist that you’ve been on stage with?Judith: Sharing a stage with, Wow, there has been so many! But the ones that really stood out and is that ‘WHAT?!?’ moment by far is; Jack Parow @ Barnyard Vaal Rock Fest a few years back. Andries Hendrik Potgieter, Ray Dylan, Manie Jackson and the list goes on… I thank God for these moments and opportunities!Franc: Which artist inspire you the most, local and international?Judith: Jan Blohm – SA’s Kurt Cobain! If you take a closer look at where he came from spiritually, mentally and physically and where he is today, if you listen to his lyrics you will know, this man is an artist! There are so many great, wonderful artists (known and unknown) out there; I believe you can learn from anyone, everyone, if you’re willing to… I’m constantly inspired, I’m inspired by you to Franc.Franc: You’ve just returned from America, what did you do there and how was the experience?Judith: It was Amazing!! My wish is for every artist or dreamer to go to The Arts Convention in Florida, Orlando, USA! I attended conferences where I corresponded with the Industries Top Agents and Recording Labels, Talent Scouts in the Acting, Modeling and Music industry. I’ve learned very important aspects of the Industry and how to go about efficiently creating and selling my product. I Auditioned for BMG/SONY, CAPITAL RECORDS, SIX FLAGS ENTERTSINMENT, ALBANY TALENT, BC ENTERTAINMENT, SWEETHEART RECORDS and many many many more in which a few call backs followed! And I’m super excited about taking this experience and gift from God and fully root myself as a National and International Artist! Taking to the States that special something; Soul, Heart, Essence, Energy, Spirit and Color that only comes from a Proudly South African heart and citizen. Franc: Do you have any albums coming out?Judith: Owe yes!! I’ve got a few projects I’m working on and very excited about them all! I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my product and project. Before I re-lease my music to the music lovers of the world I have to be very happy and pleased with the work done and final cut. This takes time, creating that special perfect al-bum; therefor I am in no hurry and will write lyrics over and over and pre-produce a song in 10 different versions before deciding on one! Before leaving for the states whilst recording a demo, I got a CD Sponsorship from a well-received producer and Recording Studio in Pretoria. We agreed on the Theme of the Album and all I can say is; Wow, This is going to be something NEW and FRESH and nothing like it is on the shelves as yet! Also very excited about the up and coming projects with my band; The Five Fallen Angels!Franc: If people want to hear more about you, like your upcoming gigs, where should they go?Feel free to visit me on any of the following; Facebook profile: Judith Kea. Twitter:@JudithKea. ReverbNation: Judith Kea. Google: Judith Kea. YouTube: Judith Kea For bookings send request to [email protected]. Thanks so much for your time Judith, it was truly a pleasure interviewing you, we behind you supporting you!

27 years ago when Alex Ferguson took over from Ron Atkinson as manager of Manchester United., no-one would have predicted how dominant this man would become in World Football win-ning every trophy that club football had to offer. Discipline and Focus is what he instilled at Manchester United and now that he is sitting comfy in his Directors chair at Old Trafford, he passes the torch to the much younger David Moyse whose 10 years at Everton has been successful taking into consideration he has placed in the top 6 with teams with almost double his budget. Moyse has been responsible for discovering some of England superstars most famously Wayne Rooney. Moyes was handpicked by Fergie to lead the Red Devils, but will he fail or succeed? The new season of the Premier league is just around the corner and this is going to be the most watched season in the history of the premier league with mil-lions tuning to see if Manchester United will reclaim the coveted trophy or will it be the beginning of the end. Chelsea has been re-united with “The Special One” and those who watch football will remember what that combination is capable of. Just think of how many people you know who bought Chelsea kits and were over-night Stamford Bridge “faithfuls”. The top 4 this season is going to be extremely difficult to predict with Spurs and Liverpool looking to sneak in. Look forward to an exciting season of football.By Sajen.

Goodbye Alex, Hello David

BENEFITS OF MARTIAL ART & FITNESS

It is a fact that obesity has become an international problem due to the level of living that we face day to day in a time where life has become expensive and do we have to work

longer hours over period of time to ensure that we can face pay-ment of household and day to day living. Visit to the gym and or making time for daily training has become a challenge.

The Martial Arts does not only enable us to defend ourselves, but also gives us full body work out sessions that strengthens the body. It also combats stress as with training we can channel our stress levels in hitting and kicking the bags as way to get fit and in the same time get a good anger release session. This also ensure that the mind reaches calmness and does the mind reach a happy place that makes us happier people.

Martial Art fitness is slightly different to normal gym however as this training program consist of hitting the Jib and Jab Pads, kick-ing the Thai Pads, striking the heavy bags, skipping ropes, light weights and other training methods. This exercise program en-sure weight loss and body sculpting and has ensured members to have lost up to 10 KG and 60 to 100cm in very short periods of time.

Also does the Martial Arts enable us to fight back and to control our fears in the times of crime we face day to day. The Martial Arts teaches us to have better awareness about what the human can do with the natural weapons we have. It teaches us how to react in times of violence. The Martial Arts makes us more disciplined and more focused of reaching goals and keeping the body, mind and spirit in good form.

Martial Art & Fitness is a great family fighting and fitness pro-gram where parents and children, Man and wife can gain as family to strengthen family ties by keeping fit and learning to protect ourselves and those we love.

Cutting Jade have been one of the cornerstones of South African rock music and there was a lot of broken hearts when you broke up. Why did Cutting Jade split up and why have you guys decided to get back together and give it another shot?

Well the truth is that we never really officially broke up. You could say that the band went on hiatus for a while and also suffered from vari-ous lineup changes as well as all the other things which life throws at you from time to time. A short history and explanation would be as follows: Our vocalist, Andrew left the band after the “Between two Lives” album and was replaced by Logan. Logan recorded the “Come Back to Life” album with us. Logan then left the band and moved to the UK, we still had some gig commitments and so we asked if Andrew would fill in for a four show tour, which he agreed to. Andrew was sing-ing for another band at the time so one could say at that point that is was uncertain as to what would happen after the tour. Well, needless to say it was a very emotional tour and we basically realized that there was something special there and decided we should record a new album, which we did, called “From Nothing”, we have just released a Special Edition of this Album which includes our cover of Fleetwood Mac’s, Go Your Own Way. Then earlier this year our original drummer Jorn Dannheimer rejoined the band and now we have basically gone full circle. The old energy is back and we are having loads of fun work-ing on new material.

What has been your fondest memory with the band?Obviously this is a very hard question to answer because we have

had so many great times over the years. From the thrill of releasing our first album, called “So there we were”, which was done totally in-dependently (which back then was pretty rare); touring overseas; rub-bing shoulders and sharing stages with great SA bands which were

Cutting Jade is back!our heroes; headlining basically every festival in the country, huge success with our song “10 Seconds” which was a number one hit on national radio. But sometimes it’s the memories of others which are the most satisfying - we have so many people come to us saying that we were the sound track to their matric year or univer-sity degree and perhaps, even better, so many bands that come up to us saying that we have influenced them in some way.

What festival has been the highlight for Cutting Jade? That will have to be Woodstock 3. We released “Between two lives”

there and we had such a huge response from the crowd of approxi-mately 15 000 people - it was insane. In particular when we played a song called “Cry Later” there was a sea of lighters out there that looked spectacular from the stage.

What are you guys going to do different this time around?Probably nothing! The important thing now is that we are dif-

ferent - a little older, a little wiser. We are doing this for ourselves because we love the music. We don’t have anything to prove to anyone and we are just having fun. Hopefully this comes out in the music we are writing and people enjoy it.

Plans for the future? We are busy recording new material at the moment and will re-

lease a new single soon. We have the special edition “From Nothing” out at the moment which we are only selling at our shows. Please “like” our Facebook page and we’ll keep you up to date with gigs and news. You can also check out some rare recordings of the band on Soundcloud.

Mistake doing #1: Doing isolated exercisesDoing exercises like bicep curls and tricep kick-backs will not get you

any significant results. One-muscle-at-a-time moves simply don’t stimu-late enough muscle fibers to build lean muscle.

If you want to build lean muscle while burning fat, you need to preform exercises that stimulate as many muscles and expend as much energy as possible at the same time.

Mistake #2: working out with machinesMachines alter the way your body naturally moves and restrict your

range of emotion. Severely limits your ability to fully active all of your muscles fibers.

If you want fast results you should incorporate exercises that allow your body to move naturally with full range of motions so you can sky-rocket your metabolism and tone your entire physique.

Mistake #3 Doing long bouts of cardioIf you’ve been pounding the pavement or the treadmill with nothing

to show for it (except sore joints and a pair of skinny worn out sneakers), you already know it takes a lot of effort to get minimal results.

Mistake #4 Doing crunches and sit-ups to get 6 pack absDoing traditional abs exercises like crunches and sit ups WILL NOT get

you a six pack. In fact, doing any exercises that target your abs won’t get you a six pack either! The key to getting sculpted abs is to burn off that stubborn layer of belly fat that’s hiding them!

Mistake #5 repeating the same workout over and overRepeating the same workouts over and over is a sure fire way to STOP

getting results. But when it comes to your workouts, if you want to keep making progress and keep seeing changes in your body, you’ve got to start switching things up.

Mistake #6 Doing long workoutsLonger workouts do not equal better of faster results. If you’ve been

slaving away at the gym and your body isn’t visibly changing, you can’t do more of the same thing and expect a different result.

When it comes to getting lean and fit, your body responds to quality over quantity. I’m going to tell you the #1 way to super-charge your workouts – this simple, yet overlooked method is the single fastest way to getting lean and ripped while cutting your workout time almost in half. No- jokes this technique will open a can of whoop-ass on your workout.

Stop doing the same old workouts haven’t gotten you any results and find out the TRUTH about how to get lean and ripped with shorter, more effective workouts.

6 WORST things you can do if you want to ignite your body’s own fat-burning furnace

The long awaited second DVD from the very popular group Ses Snare was recorded during a live concert on 12 December 2012 at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria. They

also invited a couple of their friends to take part in the record-ing. The very talented CH2, the guitar master, Greg Georgia-des, as well as a couple of other previous group members such as Wouter van de Venter and Mathys Roets joined in.

This group still have audiences in the palm of their hands with their talented arrangements of new and old songs. The success recipe with which they entertained audiences across South Africa over the past couple of years is still the same and they still get audiences on their feet! The DVD includes a couple of songs from the Ses Snare’s hugely successful Beatles tribute show.

Ses Snare is Blackie Swart, Pieter Smith, MD Greyling, Thean Kotze, Peter Hoven en Leon Ecroignard. Since last year they started making use of “musical swingers” when some of the regular members are not available. This year Mel Botes, Ma-thys Roets and Wouter van de Venter stood in and played with the Snare when one of the regular members could not make it.

Arnie is back in his first leading role in 10 years and boy does he come out swinging. The last stand is your typical over the top American action film. Don’t expect any deep dialogue or a truthful realisa-

tion, The Last Stand is 100% “boots to asses”. It’s about a leader of a drug cartel who bursts out of prison and speeds away to the Mexican border in car that seems so fast that Red Bull couldn’t catch it, but in his way is the hard assed sheriff played by Arnold and he’s letting nobody through his town without a fight. If you love old school action films with loads off explosions, bullets and fast car chases then this is definitely for you!

Snitch 7.5/10 Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is the 5th highest paid actor in Hollywood

at the moment and if he carries on in this fashion he will soon claim top spot, he has taken over from Will Smith and Matt Damon and has become the most bankable star around. In this film we see a completely different side to The Rock, a desperate man with a great mixture of fear and bravery, this guy can really act! Snitch is a true life story about a father who goes under-

cover for the DEA in order to free his son who was imprisoned after being set up in drug deal. This film has its fair share of action but it has a whole lot of heart. Snitch is a very good movie for the older audience.

Game Review: DeadpoolI’ve been waiting for someone to release something on Deadpool for a

while. I know there were talks regarding a movie, but a game will do in the meantime.....

Here’s a quick history on Deadpool - He was given a healing factor by the same guys who gave Weapon X a.k.a Wolverine a.k.a Logan a.k.a short furry dude with claws and a bad attitude; his adamantium skeleton. The only thing was after they were done with Deadpool he was certified as insane and was aware that he is a comic book character, and now a video game character - a very crass - video game character. In fact, this is how the whole ‘little’ story starts. He bullies High Moon a.k.a the developers into making a video game starring him. They send him a script and he then throws it away and takes over like only Deadpool can - it’s a very fitting ap-proach that’s very true to Deadpool. Armed with guns, katanas, a mouth and an unhealthy love for chimichangas, it’s pretty obvious that Dead-pool’s writers loved bringing him to life; he regularly has arguments with the voices in his head and at one point, he can even hop on word bubbles emanating from his diseased mind to cross a toxic river.

Now, here’s the story; as mentioned earlier, he bullied High Moon into making a game featuring him. After not reading the script and being sent on a mission “all part of the game”, he blows the budget and gets his target killed and re-incarnated by Mr. Sinister who wants to take over his satellites. You hook up with some of the X-Men and crash their plane, slap wolverine in the face and meet up with your lady love - Death, who then tells you what Mr. Sinister is planning and you set out to stop him.......

The game is filled with crass; yet entertaining humor, cool weapons like sledgehammers and laser-thingies and Dead-pools’ perspective on woman....... (I don’t think I can put his actual words on the review)

This has the right formula for a great game, but I have to say that when it came to the actual execution of it, the developers decided to take the safe route and kind of ruined it. The game doesn’t have anything new to offer, if it wasn’t for Deadpool, I wouldn’t have given it a second glance. Now, I’m not saying the game is bad, it does have its “creative” moments and I think that the creators had fun with the main character, but they should’ve taken a little bit more time when it came to the final product.
