Paisley Prints, Embellished Belts/Shoesand Strappy Heels are sure to dominatein fashion! We are certain that thesetrends will soon take ownership andrule over your heart!

Words by: Redgi WoodsThere are some dominating factors in fashionand not always do we play by the rules!Paisley prints in the spring/summer? I wouldhave to say yes to that! Especially whenpaired with elements that can bring life tothis classic and traditional print.Paisley prints are presented in neutral tones.Black/White/Cream combinations andbrown/tans/oranges are very easy colorsto add a pop to.

For Look 1:Add Fun to the Print! We have paired theprint with a bright fuschia. Because theprint is so heavy with texture, its importantto keep the extras simple. Make up can alsobe used as an accessory. Add a rosy/soft pinkcheek or lip which can bring some zest tothis look.

For Look 2:Add Regal ness to the Print! We played on thebrowns/neutrals in the print and went withgold as a eye opener. Gold (when wornresponsibly) brings class and prestige to anylook and it takes this look to the next level!

For Look 3:Add Classic Red to the Print! We styled looknumber 3 with the classic paradox, red! Red,Black and White NEVER goes out of style!Never! This color combination works despitethe presence of a textured print. Red attractsthe eye in a good way! It brings excitement!

spotlighthushBehind the HUSH.....During our Mid-Year Editorial Meeting, (Sept. 2010) I came up with the idea for thisBeauty Editorial. Our photo editorials are planned 6 months in advance on a bi annual basis. We plan a total of36 photoshoots for a full one year volume run of the magazine. We don’t reference other magazines, we don’t use ainspiration board...the first thing that comes to mind is what we go with and we find a way to make that notionfit into the culture of the magazine. We were all excited about Heart Hush. We knew that this would not only bea very fashionable issue, but more importantly it would be a very smart issue!

The concept behind Messy Heart is the smeared makeup representing how you feel when you are confused by love. The confusion ultimately leads to messy situations. Gosia Gorniak, (our resident lead makeup artist/senior beautyeditor) did the makeup to my specifications. I wanted a controlled messy look. When our love lives aredysfunctional, we still appear to be in control. The reds around the eye represents, the bleeding heart, theblacks and purples represent the bruising heart, the silver represents the cold heart and the yellow representsthe hopeful heart. One of the things that you should know about our publication, is that there is always aHUSH behind a HUSH.

Hush Loves Teddy AtlasPerhaps he iscontroversial, stronglyopinionated and lives by acode that is not complexbut irreversible.Encountering one of myheroes on Jan. 7th atESPN2's 13th season openerof Friday Night Fights inLas Vegas, Nevada was moreof an experience than anoccurance.

Visually star struck, Icouldn't hide myadmiration. He saw that inmy eyes immediately.

Tell me about what you do Ogi?, Teddyasked. I took a deep breath and managedto mention that I was the Editor N Chiefof Hush Chicago Magazine. "Does that meanI have to HUSH, lol?"

Out of my bag comes the December issue ofHush Chicago Magazine. Out of his mouthcomes, this is a great looking magazine, this is “your” magazine, you started thiswith NO money, can I have this? Yes, I wastruly in shock! My reply...No, you can'thave this copy (my love spell clearlybroken at that point) but I can send youone, it’ll be the Feb. Issue, which willhave you in it! Would you be willing tolet me interview you? Sure you caninterview me, I can see your heart andthat you care for people! I would love tointerview with Hush Chicago Magazine!

One of the great things about life, isthat we get a chance to love. Not justeach other. We get a chance to love thethings that touch us deep down inside.

Words by Ogi MerzierYes its true, we LOVE Teddy Atlas! There are 4 million fans who tune in, every weekto ESPN2 so that they get a glimpse of Teddy’s passion for the sport of boxing.Meeting Teddy was a true dream! Interviewing him melted my heart especially when Idiscovered that there is more to Teddy than a passion for boxing, there is a truecare and passion for people and the gift of life!

Hush/Page 46

Page 47: Hush Chicago Magazine/Feb. 2011 Issue/Heart Hush

If you don't know who TeddyAtlas is, you should keep thaton the HUSH! This awardwinning sports commentor, legendary boxing/sportstrainer, author, actor andphilantropist has a heart thesize of a boxing ring!

His true love (in my opinion)is not the sport of boxingthat has made him famous. It'sthe love that he has forhelping people and bringingthe best out of people thatmakes him the best in hisweight class!

I thanked Teddy for beingtrue to himself and Ithanked him for loving usall. Where there's a will, there's Teddy Atlas!Providing solutions withhis Dr. Theodore A. Atlasfoundation! Our 60 minuteplus phone interview tomy surprise did not revealany "hushes"....it onlyEXPOSED the true heart ofMr. Atlas!

Ogi:OMG Good Morning Teddy! I thought you were goingto call next week! Did you just get up?

Teddy:I just got in from Vegas. I have been up allnight, I haven't went to sleep. I was thinking, letme call Ogi and get this interview going. Are youready?

Ogi:Of course! Let's do it! We saw a nice card lastnight?

Teddy:It was a great opener to (ESPN2's) Friday NightFights. Those guys that fought gave it all theyhad and you have to respect that. They both hadeyes closed by the end of the fight.

Ogi:I'm not going to ask you about theFloyd/Pacquiao situation. I'm not going to askyou about anything in your past, ourreaders/viewers want the Hush! So I want to talkabout the organization you started and it'srecent accomplishments. Why did you decide tostart the Dr. Theodore A. Atlas organization?

Teddy:I did it for my father. He was a great man. Myfather was a physician and he actually foundedtwo hospitals. My father had a great love andcare for people. I was lucky enough to see thatgrowing up. He would often make housecalls.People would ask him why he would go out of hisway for people, why would he have coffee andcake with those less fortunate and he would sayits the right thing to do.

Hush/Page 47

Page 48: Hush Chicago Magazine/Feb. 2011 Issue/Heart Hush

Ogi:so lets talk about theorganization and whatyou do there?

Teddy:we provide financial, legal and emotionalsupport to people andorganizations who are inneed. We make dreams cometrue and we providesolutions! we do this allin the name of myfather.

Ogi:What would you say was yourbest moment in regards to theorganization?

Teddy:It feels really good to raisemoney to help other people.Every year I have thisdinner, right beforeThanksgiving and it’s a greatevent. One year we went to ahuge school and this onelittle girl got her presentand she kept asking theteacher if she could open herpresent, everyone looked at meand I said let her open it.She got a pair of toy glassslippers, she put on the shoesand said don’t I look justlike Cinderella? I said yousure do sweetheart! She lookedup at the teacher and said,my mommie told me there wouldbe no Christmas, mommie waswrong! Best moment ever!

Ogi:wow Teddy, that had to be an amazing moment!

Teddy:It really was, it was one of the best!

Hush/Page 48

Page 49: Hush Chicago Magazine/Feb. 2011 Issue/Heart Hush

Ogi:

Ogi:Its obvious that you arepassionate about The Dr. TheodoreA. Atlas Foundation, I’d like toknow why you are so passionateabout the sport of boxing?

Teddy:Boxing really is a true metaphorfor life. That’s the thing that Ilove about boxing is the way thatit relates to life. Boxing can bedifficult and at the same timerewarding. You find out that youcan deal with a challenge, youfind that you can overcome things. You find out that everyone hasthe ability to be great. It doesn’tmatter how short you are, or howthin you are, it doesn’t matterwhat color you are, everyone hasthe ability to achieve greatness. We have gyms in areas to give kidsall the good things that boxingcan teach them.

Ogi:Tell me about the 2 gyms that you have.

Teddy:We are getting about 200 kids off of thestreets with our gyms! One things that Iwant to mention about our gyms, is thecomputer rooms/learning center that wehave there. The kids have to go into thelearning center at least once a week. Ifthey are not doing good on their reportcards, then they have to go in thelearning center 4 days a week! The gymsare working very well and it’s reallyhelping the kids!

Ogi:what’s next for theorganization?

Teddy:I am hoping to get moresponsorship fromcorporations. I’m alittle scared, because weget so many letters, weget about 200 letters amonth. We need moredonations!

Ogi:I have toask you aquestionthat I’vealwayswanted toask you..whois yourfavoriteboxer?

Teddy:I would have to say that there are twoguys that I think were the best boxers ever! The first person is Henry Armstrong. He wasa monster of a man. He defended multipletitles within a two month period. Theycalled him Homicide Hank, which is such agreat boxing name. He had close to 300fights and he was around during the goldenage of boxing which is when they had thebest fighters. I don’t think that anybodycould do what he did. It was revealed thatsometimes he did not have food to eat andhe would fight when he was weak. The otherperson is Sam Langford. He fought in everyweight class. He never got a chance to fightfor the title of world champion, but if hedid, I’m sure that he would have won thattitle. There is a great story aboutSam Langford. I don’t know if it’s true ornot and I really don’t care. During thosedays, they fought outside and they foughtso many rounds that the fighters wouldbring a lunch. He brings five oranges to thefight and someone said hey Sam, you onlyhave 5 oranges and he said that’s all I’mgonna need and he knocked the guy out inthe 5th round!

Ogi:amazing story, Teddy! Ok I have onemore question, Did you see themovie the Fighter?

Teddy:Yes, I did. I liked the film and Ithink that its going to win severalawards, at the end of the its thestory of a true fighter with lotsof heart!

Ogi:What was the best part about doingthe Smooth Criminal music video, Isaw it on your site?

Nick:What's interesting about the musicvideo project is that I decided to dothe video before Michael Jacksondied. We started production rightaround the time of his death.I would the project was fulfilling alife long dream. I have always lovedhim as an artist for as long as Ican remember and this was theperfect way for me to say that Iappreciate him and the talent thathe gave to the world.

Ogi:From Smooth Criminal, to CreepyOld People. lol! Let's talk aboutthat project!

Nick:Creepy Old People was astudent project that I did forschool. It's one of thosethings that you don't thinkabout, who thinks of OldPeople as Creepy, but they canbe! Lol!

Ogi:I thought the premise of theshort was spectacular. Youractors seemed to be verycommitted and that matters whenyour doing any project.

While in Las Vegas, I had to opportunity to sit

down with up and coming

Writer/Director Nick Vasquez. Although Nick does

not have a direct Chicago

connection, he does have a indirect one...me! I am p

roud to say that I hired

Nick for his first ever job! When Nick originally

applied for a sales position,

I had no openings. He stopped by the retail store

that I was managing every

other week or so and that's when I noticed that

this kid had much heart!

It has became obvious that I was not wrong about the potiential that he has orhis passion! Nick has started his own production company in Las Vegas calledLoneTube Productions. LoneTube Productions (LTP) specializes in short films, musicvideos and documentary pieces. Unlike most production companies who stay true tothe vision of the project only, LTP considers their work to be fan driven andencourages fans to become involved! On a mid-saturday afternoon, we met atLas Vegas' famous Fashion Show Mall for lunch at the Nordie's Cafe, where I gotNick to REVEAL his HUSH!
