*HP Confidential*HP ConfidentialWhen you look at infrastructure overall, and we go talk to our customers, one of the biggest challenges they have is sprawl. Their world is very complicated. They have multiple operating systems, multiple vendors, and multiple management software. This leads to the fact that IT is not delivering what their businesses want them to do which is delivering more innovation. Helping their companies get into new markets. Helping their companies become more efficient. Helping their customers beat their competition through technology.

Statistically if you look around today, most IT organizations are spending about 70% of their budgets just managing the infrastructure they already have. And they only get to spend about the other 30% of their budget doing what I just mentioned ... which is the innovation part.

*HP Confidential*HP ConfidentialContext SlideIndustry inflection point technologies are coming back together converging. Transition: We call this HP Converged Infrastructure

NOTES;And what we believe at HP is that we're at one of those inflection points where the technology is coming together to give people a way to build their data centers of the future. And that technology is converged infrastructure.

And what do we mean by converged infrastructure? Well if you look around what's really been happening for the last 15 or 20 years is all the major infrastructure technologies have really been building their own silos. For the companies, they even manage it this way; you had a network stack, a server stack, a storage stack, a management stack. They're all kind of built up in their own worlds. No one really talks to each other.

And what we see happening with this change - driven by sprawl - is the way technology is now changing, and coming back together. And it's what was call at HP the HP converged infrastructure ... where you'll have an infrastructure that for the first time in a long time brings everything back together as one.

The difference with converged infrastructure is that it's all built to industry standards ... it gives you choice so you can change parts in and out no matter how you like to do it. Okay. So you don't get locked in. This is a very important part of our architecture and a very important part of what we believe in. It's not about lock-in; it's about building to industry standards and giving people choice.

Coaching tips: Make sure you drive home that HP has been leading this path with real investments in customer environments today. Paint the big picture of convergence, more than HW, but process, tools all the way to facilities. It is the mega-trend and the right architectural strategy to take maximum advantage of virtualization, cloud/as-a-service, and Green IT and other strategic customer initiatives.HP ConfidentialClients are asking for a blueprint for the data center of the future. The graphic on the right represents the future vision of what the data center of the future could look like. Its good to have a vision, but thats what puts us, HP, in a great position. We can deliver the value of convergence, today.

What it can do is eliminate silos and integrate multiple vendors technologies into pools of interoperable resources so they can deliver operational flexibility as business needs change. A Converged Infrastructure tackles these problems by simplifying, integrating and automating technology.

What this does for the business as I mentioned earlier is accelerate outcomes that matter:

Faster time to revenue to win more market share Lower Costs of acquisition and implementation to do more with less Respond flexibly to business changes to be more competitive Lower risks

And remember, this is all built on industry standards and customer choice*HP Confidential*HP ConfidentialWhen you look at the underlying architecture, there are four key pillars that need to converge in the most optimal way. This represents the CI architectural framework for delivering a converged infrastructure either all at once, or through modular building blocks.

It's got virtual resource pools to create a common modular infrastructure. This includes pretty much any form of virtualization that enterprises want to use or support in blocks of server, in blocks of networking, and blocks of storage. Our clients want less complexity and more efficiency in their IT operations and across their network infrastructure. HP is the only company that can deliver a single common, modular architecture across the data center from x86 to Superdome and from simple DAS to shared storage to multi-PB scale-out storage. This means that companies can use the same architecture to run and manage multiple workloads across servers, storage and networking.

It encompasses something we call the data center smart grid. We know power and cooling is one of the primary issues affecting infrastructure today. It's affecting companies because they both want to be green but also they're sick of having to go through very expensive capital cycles to constantly replace data centers. Not because they're out of square footage but because simply they can't get enough power and cooling into the data centers they have to run today's equipment. So by using smart grid technology, you can expand the life of your data centers and use a lot less power and cooling.

Clients want a common, virtualized network fabric to connect servers to switches to storage while simplifying and increasing flexibility from the data center to the network edge. By using HP FlexFabric, clients can avoid the latency and contention issues caused by traditional switching in the data center and instead integrate servers with a seamless, virtual network fabric and easily make changes to connectivity and bandwidth allocation online. The FlexFabriic allows you to wire your data center once, run multiple protocols, make changes without having to bring down servers, a whole different way of doing networking than what's been available today.

And finally, the Matrix operating environment. Clients want automated ways to increase productivity and continuously optimize resources in a uniform way across IT domains. The HP Matrix Operating Environment creates a common management platform that extends from infrastructure-to-application, across servers, storage and networks, managing both HP and other vendors technologies. With these solutions, our clients time-to-delivery of technology services decreases from months to hours.

The best thing about this architecture and technologies behind it, is that they are available today. So like a lot of visions which you hear about, you have to wait five years. What really separates converged infrastructure is you can get it now. And then it'll get better and better and better.

    So lets build one.

Coaching tips: As you walk through the architecture conceptually, show how HP will deliver based on a position of strength, starting with proven technologies customers rely on today. Point out how we will take those innovations forward, integrate and extend their capabilities in a converged infrastructure. We recommend reading the relevant whitepapers and more extensive speaker notes for this slide. Below is a high level summary.HP ConfidentialNet customer takeway: This is not a vision HP can deliver a Converged Infrastructure, today.

This slide represents what we think the data center of the future can or is going to look like starting today.

We have a common modular infrastructure with a lot of industry-standard components. We put a lot of innovation into this in terms of things like memory size, in terms of power and cooling to make sure we are the most optimal infrastructure for people to run their applications on.

We're using many of the same components across a lot of the domains. We have the largest supply chain in our industry. On top of that we add IP. For example, Sea of Sensors provides real time measurement of how much heat is coming off our components. This helps to eliminate over provisioning. We've tied this into our software so that we can cap the amount of power you're going to use at any given time.

And Virtual Connect simply put, is a new way to do networking and it's really one of the first big proof points around converging the server with the network. It's virtualized so you use less ports. It's multi-protocol so you can run all kinds of different protocols on it. And since, again, it's converged with servers, you can make changes to it without having to bring servers down. So you get more uptime.

We tie that again to our ProCurve networking as well to save even more money.

Then we have common management. Like using the Blade System Matrix as the operating system that runs a converged infrastructure through automation and orchestration, you can go up, configure a server, network, storage, all online. Then we surround this by our heterogeneous software to manage not only HP environments but your entire data center, again, encompassing both HP and non-HP equipment. And then finally a full suite of services.

This makes a converged infrastructure data center much simpler and much more agile than what customers have today. It uses common hardware across to lower cost and make it easier for customers to manage. And on top of that we've layered all kinds of different innovation that attacks customer's largest problems. And it's built to exist not only in an HP world but in the heterogeneous world as well.

*HP Confidential*HP ConfidentialAround heterogeneity, to focus on that, as I mentioned, we built this design understanding that customers do want choice. A lot of the orchestration software that is in Blade System Matrix, and the way you want to think about Blade System Matrix so deep vertical HP, encompasses a lot of our heterogeneous software for orchestration for the entire data center. The reason why that is important is customers can run Blade System Matrix but since it has many of the same software elements, they can seamlessly plug it into our larger heterogeneous offering. And customers can then have one way to again manage their entire data center, not just the HP infrastructure itself. Again ,a key piece of how we've architected it.

HP ConfidentialIf you look at services around architecture here, same idea, we wanted to give people the capability of having as much or as little as they require to move to the data center of the future. So we can help customers with the vision of how to do this through services. We can help them with proof of concept. We can plan it for them. We can design it for them. We can run it for them. As much or as little as they like.

HP ConfidentialBusiness success: Grow revenue, profit, faster response, efficient, predictable transactions, faster development IT success: Hit project design timelinesHP ConfidentialYouve heard about CI in this session Im going to talk about the first of the 4 pillars Infrastructure Operating Environment - and its ability to deliver shared-services management.

Infrastructure Operating Environment: Ability to automate the provisioning and recovery of resources within a pool from both the provider-side (IT architects who describe and stand-up infrastructure) and the requester-side (line-of-business application owners wanting to reserve resources from a pool to test, QA or support applications in production

Application Aware & OptimizedSpeeds time to application valueAutomates best practicesDynamic tuning of resourcesOptimized for any workload

HP ConfidentialThrough our tight connection with customers, HP understands the problems many enterprises face today. We hear about the day-to-day issues that administrators are facing what were hearing is that infrastructure management involves manual provisioning and a highlight customized process for every system. That means many steps (which you can see depicted in the picture to the right), and also includes many people, takes many weeks to implement and can be error prone. All that leads to increased administration costs and potential downtime.

And now Im going to tell you how HP is solving these problems.HP ConfidentialIn response to those problems, HP has introduced and defined an environment that enables shared services management. This is important because it provides a blueprint for shared-services management. That means fewer, automated steps to improve IT staff productivity and take less time. The attributes of an IOE are:

To build a next generation data center that will allow CIOs to focus on innovation and meeting business demands, requires an infrastructure operating environment that moves away from this complex manual provisioning, modification and management of applications. HP Infrastructure Operating Environment (IOE) is a shared-services engine which addresses these challenges. It is an important component of the new HP Converged Infrastructure, which provides a blueprint for next generation computing. HP IOE provisions and adapts infrastructure on the fly, ensuring that the technology can instantly respond to changing business demands in a predictable, repeatable way. With HP IOE, customers can simultaneously control and confidently optimize all elements of an infrastructure that are needed to deliver a serviceincluding servers, storage, network connections and facility resources. It unifies the tools for infrastructure lifecycle management into one command center, delivering new services in minutes instead of months. It also has consistent policies to trigger high availability and disaster recovery to preserve quality of service. With a shared-services environment, customers canOrchestrate all elements of the infrastructure togetherEasily adjust to conditions/changes with intelligent controlFully integrate with other software environmentsHP ConfidentialService catalog designed by IT architects, enforce standard repeatable processes Automatically fulfill in minutes vs. days or weeksEnsure compliance to best practices and eliminate human error Administrator time freed to manage policies and SLAsPredictable cost controls with metering and billing, SLAs governanceIncrease insight into true service cost to the businessAutomation and integrated tools relieve the burden of daily planning, troubleshooting and maintenanceExpertise, roles and responsibilities maintained within groups

16PB namespace is over 3X the nearest competitor and is the largest tested configuration. Theoretically the architecture is such that there is no physical ceiling

    1) A Virtual resource pool to support the data explosion. Key capabilities that are unique here are :- Non disruptive scaability, Independent scaling of performance and capacity, Single Namespace across mutiple petabytes of storage and Automated storage tiering within that single namespace. (NOT cost per GB - because frankly people are out their with 2TB drives today and a lower cost. But not with the features I just stated). This is in the text but we are burying the key differentiators. This statement is horrible " The digital dumping ground should be more than an IT challenge, it should enable you to drive better business outcomesAs is "enable storage clouds and meet new business imperatives"As is "Scale out file serving appliance for extrme data growth"I personally like the statement in red but I would wouldn't I :-)

    2) Ability to turn your existing storage arrays into a virtual resource pool. SVSP provides ability to drive common services and a single virtualized storage pool across heterogeneous SANs. This protects existing investments while allowing customers to move to a converged infrastructure with a single storage pool up to 2PB.3) Not sure how to wrap more EVA message in here. Not sure what the new value is but it should link back more strongly to how it helps build virtual resource pools.

HP ConfidentialManaging multiple disk arrays from different vendors results in wasted capacity, time, and money Eliminate the bottlenecks. HP StorageWorks SAN Virtualization Services Platform v3.0Convert existing storage arrays into a virtual pool of capacityHP ConfidentialSetting up individual disk drives, RAID settings, and LUN provisioning without a virtualized disk array is expensive and time consuming. The Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) can reduce and in some cases, eliminate both the expense and the pain. With EVA, HP has been delivering virtualized array solutions for 8 years and with about 80000 units shipped, its perfect storage for HPs Virtual Resource Pools. Why, you might ask?

Because of the EVAs virtualized architecture, it offers great capacity utilization by eliminating trapped or stranded storage a huge benefit from an operating expense perspective. Trapped storage is that capacity that is over-provisioned but dedicated to a particular application. Its not used by the application but it cant be re-allocated to another application or back to the storage array because its already assigned. Because of EVAs unique architecture, it uses more of the available capacity by writing data to all of the drives for all applications and better utilizing the available capacity and resulting in a lower total cost of ownership.

EVAs virtualization also means that its easier to use. Administrators WITHOUT extensive storage skills can install EVA, provision and re-provision the storage to applications quickly and easily. Studies from the Edison Group confirm this. And they show that being easy to use also translates into expense relief. Compared to a similar NetApp product, for example, the EVA is proven to be 33% easier to manage, resulting in 50% lower administration costs. In the real world, this means the IT staff can spend more time working on problems that will effect business results and less time on maintenance and operation of the storage devices.

EVA today also provides application integrated disaster recovery. In Microsoft Hyper-V environment, HP offers movement of VMs with no service interruption with support for Live Migration with EVA Cluster Extension CLX (CLX). CLX with support for Live Migration:

Provides better agility. Data centers with multiple Hyper-V physical hosts can move running VMs to the best physical computer for performance, scaling, or optimal consolidation without affecting users.

Reduces costs and increases productivity. Data centers with multiple Hyper-V physical hosts can service those systems in a controlled fashion, scheduling maintenance during regular business hours. Live migration makes it possible to keep VMs online, even during maintenance, increasing productivity for users and server administrators. Data centers can now also reduce power consumption by dynamically increasing consolidation ratios and powering off un-used physical hosts during lower demand times.

MORE BACKGROUND ON CLX For any application running in a clustered environment, CLX provides disaster recovery. If your application runs in a Microsoft Cluster on Windows servers or Service guard on HP-UX or Linux, CLX in conjunction with the clustering SW will automatically failover to your application to the remote site. CLX monitors your DR groups on the EVA and XP arrays. When a disaster occurs, the clustering SW will communicate with CLX to ensure that the storage is in the correct state to bring up your applications SQL server, Exchange server, Oracle Server, Etc CLX allows you to manual failover your application so that you may fix a system, apply patches to your application, while experiencing 0 down time. Conceptually, we can view the HP Converged Infrastructure Architecture in terms of the four tiers shown here.

This session focuses on the HP Data Center Smart Grid First lets understand what it does: Creates an intelligent, energy-aware environment across IT and facilities Allows optimization of energy effectiveness to increase facility capacity and reduce energy costsCollects and communicates 1000s of power and cooling measurements across IT systems and facilities in real-time to give customers insight and control over energyEnables continued business growth by increased IT support within the same environment, increasing data center productivity and ROI

Extends Thermal Logic technology from IT systems to broader, environmental monitoring and control across the facility and eventually, 3rd party IT and data center systems.

TRANSITION: Bringing all of this together from the ground up, requires a unique set of assets.Coaching tips: As you walk through the architecture conceptually, show how HP will deliver based on a position of strength, starting with proven technologies customers rely on today. Point out how we will take those innovations forward, integrate and extend their capabilities in a converged infrastructure. We recommend reading the relevant whitepapers and more extensive speaker notes for this slide. Below is a high level summary.HP ConfidentialWhat are the problems with todays data centers?

Power and cooling is the most difficult issue the rising cost for a rapidly growing equipment needsSuddenly the new focus at companies is the actual overall cost of running the data center rather than just attempting to decrease money spent on IT equipment and software. Now is the time to deal with the power and cooling issue (96% of companies)Need more data center capacityEnergy cost is the fastest growing part of operational expensesGovernment and corporate policies regulations demand CO2 emissions

HP ConfidentialA CIO blueprint to manage & automate data center energy management!

Accurately map both facilities and ITIT and Facilities teams are focused on separate and sometimes conflicting goals and strategies. The IT team seeks to deliver additional IT performance, typically without emphasis on power savings; the facilities teams seek to minimize energy spend due to expense, and to meet the requirements of the IT. Driving down operating expense is enabled with new generation IT hardware and IT management, which deliver a flexible, energy-efficient resource pool. In addition to these measures, what is essential going forward is a holistic view of the entire data center, IT as well as facilities, to conquer the constraints. Viewing and integrating the data center as an organic whole can ensure that all aspects of the problem are addressed

Balance workloads in the data centerHP was the first data center solutions provider to enable customers to minimize energy costs and environmental impact and ensure application availability with control efficiency at the component, enclosure and rack levels. HP has optimized products with smart technology innovations such as HP Data Center Environmental Edge and HP Thermal Logic.

Automate energy managementThe extensive HP data center energy portfolio dynamically manages your energy usage and allocates your physical and virtual infrastructure. It includes powerful management tools, intelligent and comprehensive monitoring within the hardware, and tools that unite your entire IT infrastructure and automate tasks regardless of vendor platform or operating system. This portfolio has saved customers millions of dollars in energy and capital expense worldwide.

HP ConfidentialElaborate on the key benefits of the HP Data Center Smart Grid as a component of the HP Converged Infrastructure:Increase data center capacity & lifespanReduce costs required to power and cool ITImproves reliability by optimizing IT efficiencyProvide insight and control over energy

Metrics:HP helps customers reduce facility power and cooling costs by 30% - Data center energy costs are climbing, and in many cases exceed the cost of IT hardware. HP helps Reduce energy consumption, energy costs, wasted capacity, and manual intervention in the data center for radical savings.

HP helps customers increase data center capacity by a factor of 2x - Were adding even more smart technologies that communicate real-time status on power, cooling, utilization, available capacity, and more. Were spreading Thermal Logic across all our data center IT families, so they speak the same language and act in unison. Were adding new capabilities to our environmental monitoring so that it tracks facilities capacity and activity, and reports it back to the IT. In other words, we are taking data center IT and facility energy solutions, integrating them, and driving them to harmonized maximum performance.

HP Data Center Environmental Edge and HP Insight Environmental Observer:

The new HP Data Center Environmental Edge solution helps address one of the most critical issues in todays data centers power and cooling. HP Data Center Environmental Edge is an affordable approach to monitoring your data center environment, resulting in optimal use of data center capacity and a reduction in energy costs. HP Data Center Environmental Edge measures, analyzes and visualizes data center environmental parameters, ensuring complete confidence that youre running a much more efficient data center.

Why HP Data Center Environmental Edge? Increased Datacenter Efficiency:Discovers up to 25% increase in cooling capacity by correcting data center inefficiencies such as: CRAH (Computer Room Air Handlers) over provisioning (Customer installs more CRAH units than necessary because they are not measuring air temp at the rack levelthe only recourse is to add more CRAH units which adds energy) / rack overcooling / rack air mixing and bypass / humidity control optimization

Resiliency: Real-time Energy Insight and feedback on environmental changes in your data center through data center environmental visualization and customer defined alarms. Use benchmarking of environmental conditions as a new best practice such as:Power Usage Effectiveness PUE: Facility power / IT power (Average is usually above 2, efficient configurations are around 1.5) If a customer has a PUE of 2.2 that mean 2.2 watts power the facility to every 1 watt used to power IT. The higher the PUE number the higher the efficiency. But sometimes a high PUE number is achieved because the data center is new and not entirely built out.

Flexibility: Adapt /upgrade the HP Data Center Environmental Edge hardware and HP Insight Environmental Observer software to meet the changing needs of your data centerThe easily deployed, IT agnostic, wireless sensor allows customers to configure, add, and move sensors themselves in minutes$2.4M energy cost savings per year and an ROI of 12 months!

Energy insight - Easily discover energy efficiency, usage and trends in real time with PUE, DCiE, avg. daily KWH usage

HP ConfidentialCompanies need to be able to gracefully shut down non-critical applications during brown-outs

Data Center Power Control is a feature of the Insight Control power management software. It allows data center administrators to define rules to handle power and cooling emergencies. Those rules can shed power load while maintaining critical services, by shutting down non-critical systems or restricting their power consumption.

In addition this allows customers to lower their energy bill by dropping power usage during peak times.

HP ConfidentialJeff Bell, chief operating officer, Mercy Information Services Division was quoted as saying:If we hadnt been able to stay within the power footprint available to us, we would have had to spend $5 million to expand this place again before our new data center goes live. This is a big win.

The biggest difference was in cost. HP had the solution that fixed the customers problem. And the overall cost was a third of what we might have spent with an expansion option from our prior vendor. Thats what blew all of us away completely. The savings is due to the following benefits:Three times more users per kW Because the HP server blades perform without hiccups, the IT team could test the 64-bit version of Citrix XenServer. Sisters of Mercy Health Systems is now able to host up to 200 users on a single HP server blade. Their baseline target and functional limit is 175 users per blade. Achieving that density delivered power savings. Their old blade solution could host 240 users per kW,. With the HP solution, they now get 800 users per kWthree times more. The HP solution enables them to save 38 kW. And they have only 700 kW total available for this data center, so thats a significant savings. With 3 times more users per rack unit The team also saves space. With the old solution, they were getting 93 users per rack U. With the HP solution, they get about three times more or 280 users per rack U.HP ConfidentialThe HP Data Center Smart Grid is part of the HP Converged Infrastructure strategy

HP ConfidentialHP is uniquely positioned to build the converged infrastructure because HP is the only company to offer a full portfolio of standards based integrated solutions and services developed specifically to solve the complexities of the data center.

Now one thing I'll tell you and one thing I hope you get--can come away from this presentation is the fact that I believe that HP is literally the only company that is most uniquely positioned to do this. And why do I say we're the most uniquely positioned to make converged infrastructure a reality?

Well first let's start with IP. And I love to ask this trivial question of our customers. And it goes something like this. Name the number of companies in the world who do their own IP and have their own development around servers, networking, storage and management. And the answer is actually a very small list. It's one.

If you look at most of the folks we compete with in servers, many years ago they had networking products. They got out of the business. HP stayed in. Some have storage, some don't. So because of that we're literally the only company that has it all. And since we're the only company that has it all we can build it from the ground up. And really to make this stuff work you have to build it, engineer it and design it from the ground up and that's our capability.

Second is to make this work, you've got to make sure it works not just with the infrastructure itself but also all through applications. One of the great things about being large or I think as it was referred to, the overdog, is you get a lot of attention out when you want to go make things like converged infrastructure happen. So if you look at us today, we're the largest place where Oracle lands in terms of where it gets installed on our servers. Same for VMware. Same for the Microsoft applications. Same for LINUX. Same for SAP. I could go on and on and on.

And because of that and because of these partnerships that we've had for 25 years with all these companies, we can now work with them to get applications to be optimized around converged infrastructure. And you saw some of that earlier this year when we made our Microsoft announcement.

And then finally the expertise. We're uniquely positioned in that we can allow customers to do this any way they want. If they like us just to sell some of the parts, we can do that. If they'd like us to come in and architect it for them, we can do that. If they'd like us to outsource it for them and run it for them, we can do that. And if theyd like us run it in one of our data centers for them and just have it charged back to them as a service, we can do that as well. And we wrap all this around, as I mentioned, the supply chain that I spoke about that can deliver it in economics, in a way that customers need it.

So whether you look at the technology, the partnerships, the ability to architect and deliver, objectively, we feel we're in the best position to do this in the entire marketplace.
