RELATINGRELATING

5 out of 6 images on our digipak, we got from our music video. Our music video contained a mixture of performance and non-performance shots which showed the band in every day activities and effectively a day in the life of the band. We did this so that the audience who is often heavily influenced by bands on fashion and attitudes, could connect to the band and relate to the video. Therefore we continued this theme in our digipak which is the main text as it will be the one being bought, unlike our video and advert which is merely a promotional text.

Our advert contained a similar black and white theme within a train station, but the images were different. We did this to continue a theme through our texts but added in some extra images to ensure our products weren’t boring and too similar. Both and advert and digipak included black and white images with the same colour text overlay.

Overall there was a continued theme throughout the products, with the same band members being included equally as well as similar fashion being used. However we diversified slightly in the advert images, but kept the same black and white, actors and fashion themes throughout.

SELLING THE ALBUMSELLING THE ALBUM

From our audience interview and previous knowledge, we knew that the indie genre is very heavily focused around the fashion. Therefore in order to sell an indie album, we needed to ensure that not only did the product (album) focus on fashion, but the promotional products (video and advert) did as well. By having products that worked together to reinforce the bands image, it will help sell the album to indie fans.

Also, by relating our products together it creates a band image which is reinforced through different platforms such as our magazine advert or the album placed on the shelf in HMV. By having a theme running through all our products, they will be easily recognised and therefore ultimately help sell the album

REINFORCE BAND IMAGEREINFORCE BAND IMAGE

The image of our band was very important, therefore we splashed images of the band on every available ancillary text. Both our digipak and advert feature large images of each member of the band, some of which were taken directly from our video.

By having images of the band on each text, it reinforces the band image which is often the driving force of a successful album. When fans see the image of the band in a magazine, or a music channel it will promote a positive image (fairly rebellious and fashion orientated) in the indie genre and therefore promotes the band as well as the album.
