Wild Wadi Annual Maintenance Closure

In an effort to continually enhance our customer experience, we would like to inform you that Wild Wadi Waterpark will be conducting essential maintenance from 14 January until 09 February 2017. During this period, Wild Wadi Waterpark will experience full closure and will re-open to the public on 10 February 2017.

Construction of the building began in 1994 and officially opened on December 1, 1999. Its shape is inspired by a sailing boat and is located in a specific area in order that your shadow does not cover the beach. On the hotel roof is a heliport, which was used as a tennis court for advertising involving Andre Agassi and Roger Federer, but this, despite what many believe, is not used as a tennis court. 3

The interior decoration of the building was carried out by Chinese designer Khuan Chew. The instructions Sheikh Dubai gave Chew for the design of the suites and atrium were hit and innovate. Khuan and his team used large amounts of marble, velvet and gold leaflets to adorn. Six months before the inauguration, Sheikh visited the hotel to give their opinion.

The majesty of the suites met your expectations of luxury and grandeur show, but seeing the painting of a white minimalist atrium, flunked. The decorator had to redesign the appearance of the lobby, adding bright colors on the ceiling, dancing fountains, a spectacle of multicolored lights and giant aquariums.

working people from more than 80 countries in the hotel, which must meet a rigorous selection process to assist guests in their native language.

Initially approved was 320 meters. For some unknown reason, the architect, months later, decided to change the height to 321 meters.

Turtle Rehabilitation in Jumeirah

The Turtle is a flagship species for the conservation of the marine environment and is protected throughout most of the world. All seven species of marine turtles found globally are listed as vulnerable to extinction, endangered or critically endangered. The Hawksbill turtle, native to the Middle East, is listed as critically endangered with only an estimated 8,000 nesting females left worldwide. On a global scale the greatest threat to marine turtles are all caused by man.

The Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project

The Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP) is based at Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah and is run in collaboration with Dubai’s Wildlife Protection Office, with essential veterinary support provided by the Dubai Falcon Clinic and the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory.

The project has been running in its current form since 2004 and has so far seen the release of over 560 rescued sea turtles back into Dubai’s waters. In 2011 alone over 350 sick or injured sea turtles have been treated by the DTRP after being washed up on the regions beaches. The DTRP is currently the only project of its kind in the Middle East and Red Sea region.

Page 7: hotel Burj al arab jumeirah

The Goals of the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project

The project was started after the need for a turtle rescue and rehabilitation facility was realized by the Wildlife Protection Office - after stranded turtles started to be brought in to them. The main goals of the project are:

Rescue, rehabilitate and release back into the wild any sea turtles that are found sick or injured throughout the region.

Educate local children, citizens and international hotel guests about sea turtle biology and the local and global plight of the sea turtle.

To understand the success of rehabilitation and to research turtle movements throughout the region and beyond via a satellite tracking initiative.

Sea turtle recovery process

Without exception, all of the turtles found in the DTRP were at one stage very sick or injured. Turtles are brought to Dubai’s Wildlife Protection Office or to the Aquarium team at Burj Al Arab by members of the public where the team closely monitor their recovery. During the recovery process, the animals are subjected to ongoing veterinary examination and monitoring, with appropriate medication or surgery being administered as necessary.

Once the team is satisfied with the progress and condition of the turtles, they are then transferred to the Mina A’Salam turtle enclosure. Animals that are already too weak to benefit from the treatment regime and succumb to their illnesses are sent to the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory where a full post-mortem examination is carried out to determine the cause of death.

The large enclosure at the Mina A’Salam allows the team to monitor the final stages of rehabilitation before the turtles are released back into UAE territorial waters.

The types of debilitation are varied, some are injuries caused by entanglement or ingestion of plastic waste discarded into the marine environment. Some are sick rather than injured, normally manifested by abnormally heavy barnacle growth on the carapace or ‘shell’.

Turtles are reptiles and as such are cold-blooded, gaining their body heat from the surrounding environment. Young turtles in particular are therefore negatively affected by cold sea temperatures experienced within this region during the months of December, January and February which is when the majority of sick turtles are found.

Dubai's economy began to take off in 1894 when Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum boosted foreign trade thanks to the tax exemption. One of the main products were made known to the beads.

A Dubai early last century Dubai began to grow slowly. During the early years the population concentrated in Bur Dubai and Deira but later began to spread through the feald. Its inception Dubai was closely linked to trade, in 1908 there were more than 350 specialty stores in Deira and 50 in Bur Dubai.

In the religious and cultural level the first mosques were built. At first they also served as schools.

The 40s were marked by World War II. The very fact of the war itself the appearance of cultured pearls on the market was added. They were times of scarcity but Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum managed to provide food to 20,000 people who were already settled in Dubai. At this time an agreement with the British Government was signed for oil.

In the 50s Dubai began trading with gold and Dubai Creek extended its maritime trade continue to grow.

The '60s marked the awakening of Dubai. The hard work of the past decades begins to bear fruit with the discovery of oil.

In the late 60s the city had all the infrastructure to grow freely: they had built roads, bridges, supply networks electricity and water, good telecommunications system and the airport.

Page 13: hotel Burj al arab jumeirah

Dubai in 1969 and began exporting oil in that year already had 59,000 inhabitants.

The 70s in Dubai is marked by a large population growth. In 1977 the city already exceeded 200,000, the population had quadrupled in less than 10 years.

The high price of oil allowed Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum start planning what would be the Dubai we know today. A late had built the port of Jebel Ali, the World Trade Center, the desalination plant, the Shindagha tunnel and the Garhoud Bridge.

In 1971 the UAE was founded. Since then Dubai has been accompanied by Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and, a year later, Ras Al Khaiman.

From the 80 Dubai he prospered economically. The airport was expanded to house the recent airline Emirates Airlines, and recreational sports complexes were built and began to think of tourism as a source of additional income. At this time new oil and gas fields in the desert of Margham were discovered.

The 80s also were marked by a construction boom, many efforts were needed to accommodate the large number of people coming to Dubai. In 1990 the city reached 550,000 inhabitants.

In 1990 Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed dies and his son inherited the position. His plans, even more ambitious than his father, have led to the city we know today as Dubai.

Thanks to government efforts currently Dubai's economy depends only 20% of oil. Trade and services -including tourism- dominate the current economy.

The tax exemption has resulted in many large companies begin to think of Dubai as the venue for its operations.
