Data Physics and the wider Noise and Vibration Technologies (NVT) GROUP exhibited at the SAE Noise and Vibration Con-ference in Grand Rapids, Michigan in June. As one can see from the photos, the group made a strong effort to be a visible industry leader. NVT GROUP co-sponsored the Welcome Reception and exclusively sponsored the Week-at-a-Glance lanyard insert. This was inserted into every badge and provided at registration. Specific to Data Physics, the new 900 Series Dynamic Signal Analyzer literature and banner was on display. Our staff demonstrated the new 900 Series Analyzer hardware and software. Additional materials included new NVT GROUP, Lansmont and Team banners.

Multi-axial Testing: Determining when to do MDof Testing on Thursday, August 6

Raman Sridharan, Applications Engineer, will present. Multi-axial vibration is a reality often overlooked when a product undergoes shaker table testing. Sequential single axis shaker testing is often used in lieu of true multi-axial testing - the only way to exactly mimic a product’s operating environment. This seminar will investigate the validity of the sequential single-DOF simplification, and give insight to when it is or is not valid.

This seminar is done in conjunction with an ongoing research project at the University of Maryland’s Center for Advanced Lifecycle Engineering.

Raman Sridharan is an Applications Engineer at Data Physics Corporation and currently works with the SignalCalc FFT ana-lyzer and SignalStar vibration controller products. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, focusing on control theory.

Seminars in the Netherlands by ABtronix

Courses ‘Introduction to Vibration’ and ‘Fixtures, Software and Specification’

On October 6 and 7, 2015 we will organize again the famous two-days course ‘Introduction to Vibration’ and it will take place in Breda (NL). A second course ‘Fixtures, Software and Specifications’ will be organised on October 8 for those who are interested in aspects of vibration technology which lays beyond the introduction course.

ABtronix will organize the seminar ‘turbomachinery Vibration Analysis’

In week 43 ABtronix will organize the one-day seminar ‘Turbomachinery Vibration Analysis’. The seminar will be hold in a hotel in Breda and hosted by Robert Bloomquist and Georges Sanchez of Data Physics and Ad Bastiaanssen of ABtronix. The exact date is not known yet.

Vibration Institute Annual Training Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 14 to 17, 2015

The annual Vibration Institute Conference will be at the historic Crowne Plaza. The event provides a meeting place for the vibration and condition monitoring community to meet every year. Sessions emphasize the use of basic and advanced techniques to achieve predictive maintenance programs. Topics of interest include identification, analysis, and correction techniques used in condition monitoring and analysis. Rob Bloomquist Turbo extraordinaire will be there for Data Physics.

EPRI Conditioned Based Maintenance Meeting in Denver, Colorado on July 13 to 17, 2015

The EPRI Condition Based Maintenance Conference is a small venue for select groups to come together and consider is-sues involving safety, equipment reliability and cost control. Predictive Maintenance User Group, Infrared Thermography User Group, Vibration Technology Forum and Lubrication are groups represented. Analyzer wizard and Product Manager Kalyan Vitta will be at the event.

Internoise in San Francisco, California on August 9 to 12, 2015

This year the International Congress and Exposition on Noise Control Engineering will be held in Marriot Marquis in San Francisco, California. This is the first time in many years that an industry is located in the SF Bay Area. The Congress is spon-sored by the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering.

Turbomachinery and Pump Symposium in Houston, Texas on September 14 to 17, 2015

Data Physics will be present at booth 630 at the 44th Turbomachinery Symposium in the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. Data Physics Turbo product manager Rob Bloomquist will be on hand to showcase the Signal-Calc Turbo Rotor Dynamics Analyzer which is suitable for diagnosing rotating machinery problems. This annual event features an in-depth technical program combined with an international exhibition complete with full-size equipment. Events are led by engineers with experience in the petrochemical, process, chemical, utility, contractor and consulting fields. Additionally the manufacturers of rotating equipment and fluid-handling equipment from around the world will be exhibiting.

Simplifying test and Analysis

The new SignalCalc 900 Series software makes the process of defining a test, making measurements, analyzing data, and generating high quality reports easier than ever before. The SignalCalc 900 Series software is built on a relational database. Test results are searchable by test and data attributes. Multiple test types can be combined in a single project for ease of analysis and report generation. Data from different test types can be easily combined and compared using SignalCalc’s 2D and 3D visualization tools.

Built-in report templates are available for creating high quality reports in standard formats like Adobe PDF. Users can also use the report editor to create their own custom report templates. Reports can be saved and edited using word process-ing tools such as Microsoft Word.

User-defined Realtime Signal Processing

In addition to the wide range of built-in signal analysis capabilities, the SignalCalc 900 Series also offers the user the ability to define their own custom signal processing. This capability is available for both live and recorded data. All signal processing is done in real time in the digital signal processors on the 900 Series hardware. User defined signal processing includes:

• Channel Math - Creation of “User Channels” using mathematical operations on time domain signals from input channels:

o Integration, differentiation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of channelso Matrix math, including kinematic transformation for computation of rigid body response of structureso User defined low pass, high pass and band pass filtering

• Signal Math – Creation of “User Signals” using mathematical operations on processed time and frequency domain signals:

o Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division signalso FFT, IFFT, CFFT, ICFFT

Import and export between various standard data formats enables analysis using other signal analysis tools like Matlab.

The new Abacus 900 Series hardware platform is a powerful, real time, distributed digital signal processing system. The gigabit Ethernet network architecture allows the systems to be used independently or combined to create larger systems with over 1000 channels. Systems are comprised of channel cards with up to six channels per card. Two channels on each card are reconfigurable as inputs, outputs or tachometers enabling the user to configure the channels as needed for each test.

The DP901 system is an ultra-portable real time signal processing system with six input channels that is well-suited for field use. Multiple DP901 systems can be combined for larger tests. Passive cooling eliminates fan noise for acoustic ap-plications.

New Abacus 900 Series Networked Digital Signal Processing System

University of liverpool Selects Quattro and V20 ShakerThe University of Liverpool Department of Physics purchased a DP240-4C1S - modal impact hammer and accelerometer.That Quattro purchase was followed up by a V20 shaker for structural testing. The university is developing low-mass sup-port structures for silicon detectors that will go into the ATLAS experiment in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Liverpool looked at several competitors but Quattro fitted the bill best after a well prepared modal demonstration and technical discussion. Understanding and demonstrating the DP products proved successful in this case.

Northrop Grumman in Georgia Picks DP Shaker System

Northrop Grumman, located in Warner Robins, Georgia, selected a SignalForce shaker system and SignalStar controller. The LE-308 shaker system included a 24” Monobase Slip Table and Vector Controller. The application of the system is for the pro-duction testing of military aircraft flight hardware modules. Northrop Grumman is a leading provider of products and solu-tions for the military and aerospace industry.

Data Physics won the competitive bid by working closely with the customer to provide a cost effective solution to meet their requirements with a complete solution of DP products. In addition, DP sales people developed a “consultative” relationship with them to bridge their relative unfamiliarity with vibration testing, giving them comfort and confidence in the solution. Meeting directly with the customer and providing guidance and education, along with a solid system solution, were key factors in edging out the competition. A prior relationship with this customer also proved valuable. DP’s pricing and deliv-ery were very good versus the competition. Data Physics’ Service and Support capabilities were also important strengths. References to other successful Data Physics installations at other Northrop locations may have been helpful in validating performance and reliability. Developing and maintaining the relationship with the customer program manager, and being responsive to requests for information, along with guidance on the right solution, were important.
