Wild Oats XI, the 100 ft super maxi is the first yacht in the history of Australia’s infamous Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race to claim line honours in four successive years: 2005, 2006, 2007 & 2008.

katie millerJust three years after her first introduction to solo racing, Katie has a solo regatta win and a solo transatlantic race to her name, becoming the youngest ever female to complete the OSTAR in doing so. This season, she is turning her attention to France, where she will compete in the intensely fought Figaro Championships.

franCe – bernard StammCurrent Velux 5 Oceans winner and former IMOCA World Champion has been supported by Henri Lloyd since 2008. Bernard has been campaigning in 2010 in the class 40 and is preparing to take part in the next Vendée Globe in 2012.

alex thomSonAlex Thomson is one of the UK’s major talents in solo offshore racing. He is the youngest skipper ever to win a round the world race, winning The Clipper Round the World Race in 1999 at the age of 25, and is the current holder of the 60’ monohull distance record, covering an astounding 501miles in 24 hours.

Shirley robertSonOne of the world’s greatest femalesailors, Shirley won consecutive goldmedals in Sydney and Athens andwas the only female skipper in theiShares Extreme 40 circuit. Shirley has been supported by Henri Lloyd since 1993.

geoff holtHenri Lloyd will be supportingGeoff Holt when he completes hisnext personal challenge. Geoffwill cross the Atlantic and returnto the scene of the accident thatparalysed him 25 years ago. Oncompleting this, Geoff will also bethe first quadriplegic to make thisjourney. Henri Lloyd has supportedGeoff since 1992, including hissingle handed circumnavigationof Great Britain in 2007.

franCe – PrinCe bretagnePrince de Bretagne has got one of the most recent 50 foot multihulls which will start the next Route du Rhum as one of the favourites. velux 5 oCeanSThe oldest single-handed round the world yacht race. Run every 4 years since 1982, this is the longest and toughest event for any individual in any sport. Made up of a series of five high-pressure sprints within a marathon circumnavigation of the planet. The next race will start in La Rochelle on October 17th 2010.

The ‘infinite-loop’ system means that customers can return worn-out Blue Eco products to Henri Lloyd for recycling through Teijin’s revolutionary fibre-to-fibre recycling facility. The recycled raw material is then broken down into new, highly durable polyester fibres and engineered into recycled fabric that is used for the manufacture of new Blue Eco products.

the shockwave system is set to redefine comfort and protection in technical sailing clothing. this pioneering range of technical outerwear has been designed to be adapted for a wide range of sailing disciplines and provide high protection and comfort. it is the culmination of many years of research and development by our design team who have worked closely with professional sailors including teamorigin.

with the demands to compete in such varied disciplines of the sport reaching an all-time high, the concept was to create a complete system of sailing wear to cover all aspects of sailboat racing. from coastal club racing to full-on high performance tp52 / america’s cup style racing and offshore sailing, the shockwave system provides total versatility and protection by allowing the wearer to adapt the kit to suit the function and position on the boat.

deCk armour imPaCt ProteCtion SyStemfor the first time in any sailing clothing internal pockets have been constructed at critical areas to allow the incorporation of various deck armour mesh inserts. these flexible and highly breathable mesh panels provide impact protection at the knee, seat and stomach areas. the silicone based ‘open structure’ pads custom mould around the body so as not to restrict movement whilst allowing air to pass freely through them. the molecules within the deck armour inserts engage upon impact to defend the body from uncomfortable collisions by absorbing and dispersing forces across a greater surface area, so lessening their intensity. in addition to ‘collision’ impact protection deck armour also improves comfort when hiking out on the rails to alleviate the pressure to the stomach over longer periods.

innovative fabriC teChnologyfor 2011 this tough yet lightweight 100% waterproof and windproof tp fabric technology has been further enhanced by:

the application of a micro-porous coating direct to the hydrophilic laminate, ensuring the fast transition of internal condensation to the outside and keeping you drier for longer.

to the outside of the fabric a super durable water repellency (sdwr) finish helps tackle salt water abrasion and shed surface water, maintaining the performance and comfort of the garments.

the internal side of the fabric features an example of applied technology – different sized 3d micro-beads are grafted onto the fabric, helping lift the garment away from the body’s surface, promoting airflow, reducing wind profiling, increasing breathability and also helping to protect the inside of the fabric from abrasion.

oPtiviSion hood, WatCh and CourSe PanelSfollowing on from the success of our optivision hood system, we have taken the concept further by introducing watch and course panels into the shockwave system. clear panels have been engineered into the sleeves for easy watch vision for that all important start, and also into the thigh pockets of the hi-fits, salopettes and shorts to stow a course map.

the shockwave system includes an extensive selection of jackets, smocks, salopettes and shorts including women’s sizes in shockwave offshore. the shockwave salopettes have deck armour insert pockets for knee, seat and hiking protection, as well as a clever loop shoulder adjustment for a bespoke fit. they also feature a neoprene shoulder panel to provide added flexibility, and a fast draining, quick access, double partition thigh pocket with optivision course window for instant visibility, whilst the jackets and smocks all feature the optivision watch window as well.

They come from all walks of life, but these people are certainly no ordinary people. Some call them brave, some call them crazy, but they are unified by one dream: of racing a yacht singlehanded around the world. It is a dream they will endlessly pursue with a dogged determination and fiery passion, and one they are prepared to do anything for to see it come true. Family, friends, job, life – all put on hold. Only one thing matters now.

More than 2,700 people have reached the summit of Mount Everest. 500 have been into space. Less than 180 people have ever sailed round the world solo. The goal is to become part of that elite band by taking part in the longest singlehanded ocean

race in the world, the VELUX 5 OCEANS.

To do that, the ocean racers will sail their 60ft yachts into some of the most dangerous situations known to man during five demanding legs. They will battle fearsome hurricane force winds, sail through mountainous seas as high as a six-storey building and cope with temperatures that range from searing tropical heat to sub Antarctic lows. They will have to overcome extreme mental and physical stress and fatigue. Sleep will become a luxury.

More than just sailors, these courageous people are forced to become engineers, sailmakers, meteorologists, strategists, nutritionists, and most importantly survivors. Since it began in 1982, 123 sailors have started the VELUX 5 OCEANS – only 73 finished. Two died following their dream.

By choosing to compete in the VELUX 5 OCEANS the ocean racers are buying into a rich heritage which has given rise to some of the world's best

sailors. The VELUX 5 OCEANS is not only the longest singlehanded round the world yacht race but at nearly 30 years old is also the longest running.

Always at the forefront of ocean racing innovation, the 2010/11 VELUX 5 OCEANS will see the première of the Eco 60 class of yachts, pushing a message of sustainability, accessibility and affordability. Making use of the many Open 60 yachts built before 2003. The Eco 60 class will also be governed by a framework designed to improve the ecological and environmental impact on the planet. These rules will seek to limit fossil fuel consumption and encourage wind and solar power, taking a message of sustainable living around the world.

xplore expeditionsAntarctica is the largest remaining wilderness on Earth, virtually untouched by human impact.

Antarctica is not easy to access but that is part of its appeal. Amidst such solitude, adventurous travellers will discover an ethereal landscape that lingers in the memory.

Few have ventured onto the continent, and those who do rave about the privilege of gazing upon towering mountains, hulking glaciers, and luminous, dreamlike icebergs, carved into curious shapes. Perhaps more than anywhere else, Antarctica reminds those who visit of the awesome power of nature. No two travellers will ever see the same icebergs forged in exactly the same form, such is its ephemeral and austere beauty.

The Antarctic peninsula is highly mountainous, where peaks rise dramatically from shore to grand lofty heights.

This peninsular extends much further north than the rest of the continent and is characterised by a warmer climate, particularly on the western side, with above-freezing temperatures common. Temperatures reach a maximum of +5°C to +10°C near the coast in summer.

The light can be very strong and aggressive especially because of snow and ice refraction. But the peninsula can also experience some of the continent's most demanding and extreme weather even in summer.

Our goal is to explore outlying and remote areas in the Southern Hemisphere, with the focus of expeditions on higher latitude sub-Antarctic islands, the Antarctic Peninsula, remote islands of the Pacific, and the west coast of Chile. The vehicle for these explorations is Xplore: first and foremost an expedition craft, designed to take people with dreams to extraordinary places.

Xplore Expeditions will always have a strong focus on charting, surveying and documenting the exploration and discovery of coastlines, possible harbours, and anchorages.

Our Fast-Dri performance products are designed to be worn either as your only layer in warm conditions, or as a base layer to combine with a complete breathing system.

Extremely fast drying - wicking any perspiration away from your body to keep you dry and comfortable.

Worn on its own, UV protection adds to its performance and versatility. Based on the ‘Aussie Rules’ method, (there is a sliding scale from 0-50), all our products are 30-50 rated, while a Durable Water Repellency (DWR) finish helps shed surface water.

And Fast-Dri doesn’t just protect you against the elements, it protects you with an anti-microbial finish to help maintain freshness. Silver ions in the fabric repel bacteria, stopping it from forming.

outlast® technology was originally developed for nasa to protect astronauts against temperature fluctuations in space. outlast® material is a microencapsulated phase change material (mpcm) that can be blended into compounds suitable for applying to fibres, fabrics and coated materials.

outlast® materials have the ability to interact with your body to help balance temperature by absorbing, storing and releasing the heat that you produce and maintaining a comfort zone.

one way to demonstrate the performance level of outlast® products compared to traditional products is with a thermal imaging camera. this camera shows temperature differences in colour. from hottest to coldest, the colours are: white, red, yellow, green and blue.

CONSTRUCTION We use strong, durable, rot resistant nylon 3-ply bonded sewing thread and major seams are double sewn then capped with binding tape for protection before being sewn again.

garment care – the henri lloyd range uses a wide range of fabric technologies to ensure a high level of garment performance and comfort. to maintain the performance of the garment, please refer to the washing instructions printed on the label inside your garment. use pure liquid soap only; do not use any fabric softeners or biological washing powders. if you need any further assistance, please contact your local henri lloyd dealer or email henri lloyd customer services [email protected]. in between washing your sailing clothing, it is important to remember that salt is a desiccant and will attract moisture. consequently, all foul weather gear should be rinsed periodically using fresh water (if available) to prevent salt from accumulating. this will reduce the cold, clammy feeling when first putting the garment on and will significantly increase the level of comfort for the wearer. when you have finished using the garments and before stowing them away, ensure they are thoroughly dried. do not use direct heat or leave exposed to strong sunlight when drying. garment repairs – through normal wear and tear, there are occasions when a garment may need repairing. should this occur, we recommend the repair takes place as soon as possible to avoid any further damage. all garments sent for repair must be clean. please include a note with your name, return address, daytime phone number or e-mail. our customer services department will be happy to recommend the best course of action. we can usually carry out repairs at reasonable cost at the henri lloyd factory. please contact your local henri lloyd distributor or contact henri lloyd on +44 161 799 1212 or email [email protected]
