Home learning week 15 th -28 th June 2020 Hello Sunshine children It’s been lovely to see all the wonderful things you have been doing with your learning packs and also the ways you are finding fun at home. We have been so lucky with the weather and I hope you have been out and about enjoying the sun! Please don’t worry if you are yet to complete the last home learning pack, this pack is available for when you are ready with no pressure or expectation from me to do it all. As you are aware our last home learning pack had a big focus on creative activities. I hope you all enjoyed this pack; it has been wonderful to see you all getting stuck in creating fantastic pieces of artwork. Our next pack is going to focus heavily on reading and fostering your child’s love of reading. I would love to see your work on Tapestry or you can email through pictures and written work to [email protected]. Please keep up with daily exercise to keep your body and minds healthy whether that’s Jo Wicks or building your own obstacle course in the garden. It’s key that you look after yourselves and your family so you are fit and well to return School again. Hoping to hear from you soon, I am missing you, it’s very strange not being in the classroom with you all! Take care of yourselves and your family and remember to keep smiling. Miss Armstrong

Understanding the world:

Have you got any pets at home? Could

you tell me or perhaps show me how

you care for them? What do they eat?

How do they exercise?

Physical development:

Can you set up and complete your

own obstacle course? Try including

objects you can under, over and

around!

EAD

It is a very special day on Sunday

21st June; some of us like to

celebrate a special day called

Father’s day. This day gives us an

opportunity to celebrate the special

people we have in our lives, it could

be your dad, an uncle or even your

grandad. See if you can make them

a card to make them feel extra

special. I have provided some ideas

and examples below.

Communication and Language

Can you play a game of Simon says with the people in your house. Make sure

to follow the instructions correctly by carefully listening to each.

Maths This week I would like you to look at comparing quantities.

Grab two bowls and your child’s favourite

snack; my personal favourite is milky bar

buttons. Together with your child see if you

can fairly share out the buttons between the

two bowls, you could try modelling this first by

counting out 2 buttons, giving them to your

child, and then counting out 4 buttons for

yourself. Ask your child if this is fair and if you

both have the same amount of buttons? Next

ask them to help you share them out fairly,

demonstrate putting one button at a time in

each bowl until you have no buttons left, then

check again do you have the same number

now? Try using the language ‘more, fewer, the

same’

Start by gathering together a group of objects,

lay them out on the floor and together count

them with you child, emphasise saying the

number as you tap each object in turn.

Introduce two teddies and ask your child to

share the objects between each of the teddies,

making sure they both have the same number.

Repeat with different quantities.

Can you help to lay the table for dinner? Can

you collect a fork for each person, how many

do yu need? Can you get the same number of

knives? Lay the knives and forks on the table,

have you got the same number of knives and

forks?

Draw two circles on the floor outside, you can

use hoops if you have them. Next collect some

interesting objects from around the garden, eg;

stones, leaves, etc and place them in one circle.

How many objects have you found? Can you

count them? Now can you find the same

number of objects for the other circle? Put the

objects into the circle and stop when both

circles contain the same amount

Ask your grown up to draw an apple tree with

4 apples on it. Can you now draw another

apple tree? Can you draw the same number of

apples on this tree?

Play a game with your grown-up. Your grown up

needs to hold up a number of fingers on both of their

hands and you need to say when the number of

fingers on each hand is the same. If the number is

different, then you need to say ‘different’. If the

number of fingers is the same, then you need to shout

out the ‘SAME’. You can take this in turns.

Don’t forget to continue to

practice your counting! Can you

count to 10, 20? Can you count

how many hops you can do? Or

how about how many jumps?

Reading/Phonics

Can you find the rhyming pairs of each

set below? Remember for word to

rhyme it needs to have the same

sounds at the end.

Can you retell your favourite story using

puppets and toys? Can you remember what

happened in the story? Try making your own

puppet show for your special grown up, you

could try filming your show for Tapestry.

Try sharing your favourite story with your

grown up at home. After you have finished

the story see if you can talk about what has

happened in the text. What was your

favourite part? How did the story end? Who

was your favourite character? Where did the

story take place, was it in the woods, a

castle, etc

Read a book with your grown up and decide

who was your favourite character. Draw a

picture of that character and talk about what

they were like and why they were your

favourite character.

Can you make up some funny rhyming

sentences? Ask your grown up to write down

your favourite one. For example ‘I am a cat

and I am wearing a big, stripy hat’

What’s your favourite poem or rhyme that you

share at home? Could you try filming a short

clip of yourself as your say your chosen rhyme

and upload it to Tapestry?

In the sunshine room we love the story

‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. At home

see if you can retell the story with your

special grownups. Can you join in with

the story? Perhaps you can create your

go on your own bear hunt. Follow the

link below to watch a video clip of this

in action.

years/play/going-bear-hunt/

Share an unfamiliar story with your

child, choose a story that they

might not have heard before.

Together with your child read the

story but stop before the ending,

and discuss with you child what

they think will happen next. Can

they create their own ending to the

story?

One of my favourite stories is ‘Room on the broom’ by

Julia Donaldson. I have attached some images for you

above. Please could you look at the illustrations with

your child and discuss what is happening. Can you talk

about the characters on the page? What does each

character look like? How might they be feeling at this

point in the book? Can you talk about what you think

might happen next?

If you have the story at home try sharing it before

bedtime.

Below is a list of some questions you can ask

that will help your child to demonstrate their

understanding of the story;

What was the story about?

How does this part make you feel?

What do you think will happen next?

What do you like about the story?

What happens at the beginning of the story?

What happens at the end of the story?

Who is your favourite character?

How do you think the story will end?
