Like a technology revolution is incomplete if it doesn’t touch the life if those who adopt it; and a social transformation are worthless if it doesn’t utilize technology to maximize its reach.

Speaking of the world we live in, we have been building concrete jungles where we build our dreams too. We have been making our homes, intelligent but we still want to go back to a home with a green backyard.

All of this, and more, just because we understand that while we evolve to make our world smarter than ever, we ought to be more sustainable, than we have ever been.

Global urbanization is at all-time high, and so are the challenges that come along with climatic change, population explosion and again infrastructure, that is why we need smarter plans while also being mindful of sustainability.

Our homeland, India has witnessed the rapid pace of urbanization, presenting a critical need to take initiatives that harness technology, which leads to ‘smarter’ outcomes, like driving economy or improving the quality of urban life.

India Government, hence, has come up with the ‘Smart & Sustainable Cities’ initiative. Setting up 100 Smart Cities has been envisioned, focusing on area-based development, comprehensive planning, enhancing incomes for all, preserving traditional architecture, culture & ethnicity while implementing modern technology to achieve sustainable growth.

Humans used to have the nature and environment as its habitat. Due to the virtue of being intellectual animal, we the humans have always craved for and achieved progress, and development in all the arenas of life. Following the population explosion, it is the need of the time to look in to the habitat management which collaborates and synchronizes with the modern requirements and needs.

I am glad to learn that the Gujarat Institute of Civil Engineers & Architects, an institute in existence since the year of the freedom of our nation, is hosting the 'Habitat Conclave 2016’ at Ahmedabad during 18th to 21st February 2016. I am sure the ideas and researches to be presented and projected during the course, of the conclave will be enlightening to all the explorers of the field. Habitat Conclave is more than an initiative. It is an occasion to develop as well as celebrate. To make Habitat Conclave versatile, vibrant and engaging, cultural programs & talent evenings will be organized. The first name of the city known for age-old art, architecture and unmatchable vibrancy is perfectly apt to be used for a festival that is meant to introduce and preserve that heritage of the city, Ashapalli.

Ashapalli Festival is a community celebration of different art-forms & crafts originated and pursued in various parts of Gujarat.
