Beginningsborn in Vienna, in 1862His father, Ernst Klimt,

worked as an engraver and goldsmith, earning very little, and the artist's childhood was spent in relative poverty.

The painter would have to support his family financially throughout his life.

Klimt was awarded a scholarship to the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts (Kunstgewerbeschule), where he studied until 1883, and received training as an architectural painter.

After finishing his studies, Klimt opened a studio together with his father and brother.

Klimt StyleArt historians note an

eclectic range of influences contributing to Klimt's distinct style, including Egyptian, Minoan, Classical Greek, and Byzantine inspirations. Klimt was also inspired by the engravings of Albrecht Dürer, late medieval European painting, and Japanese Rimpa school.

OUR PROJECT ~ Your own Tree of Life

1. Start by painting the trunk of the tree GOLD. paint the trunk in fluid motions by drawing the sides swaying as opposed to drawing straight lines. Extend branches from the center and use swirls at the tips of each branch.

2. Use some WHITE paint 3. Let these areas dry completely 4. paint over these patches of white with

BLACK paint to make patterns or designs. 5. Final step is to use black paint to outline

all of the tree branches
