Circular Economy in site planning

Let us focus on Water and Soil cycling.

Green Infrastructure

EU Green Infrastructure: A strategically planned network of natural and semi-natural areas with other environmental features designed and managed to deliver a wide range of ecosystem services.

Water Technological Platform EU: Develop natural or semi-natural

areas for 1. Water purification, 2. Water storage and 3. Water safety. (nature-based engineering).

Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik said: "Building green

infrastructure is often a good investment for nature, for the economy and for jobs. We should provide society with solutions that work with nature instead of against it, where that makes economic and environmental sense."

Nature-based flood defenses

programme Building with Nature: To make use of the natural dynamics in coast and shore protection (Ecoshape).

-multifunctional use of space -adds nature value -increases landscape attractiveness -CO2 fixation -is more sustainable -is adaptive -reduces costs

manipulation of water or soil quality.

Within project linking of

water flows or soil flows.

Within or between project(s) linking of soil

and water functions.

Prospective and knowledge gaps

• How to consolidate sediments at location? • What will the CO2 emission be? • How will it behave in future climate events? • What nature can we expect? • Will it be a valid business case for the

stakeholders? • Should we adjust our expectations?
