In 2016, the SGRC program celebrates 30 rounds of grant-making. The program has supported hundreds of small communities in that time, investing millions of dollars into local projects. It is a great example of a collaborative program supported by various partners, which has the flexibility to address issues that make a difference to the sustainability of rural, regional and remote communities. Grants of up to $5,000 are available for projects and activities that offer clear public benefit for communities in rural, regional or remote Australia. Priority is given to communities of 10,000 or fewer. Limitations What Can Be Funded? Not-for-profit community based organisations from communities in rural, regional and

remote locations in Australia can apply for funds to support projects and activities that offer clear public benefit (are for a charitable purpose) and clearly address a need in the community in the areas of social and community welfare, economic, environmental, health, education or cultural development.

Projects located in communities with a population of 10,000 or less will receive priority. Organisations must have an ABN or Incorporation Certificate. Organisations/projects demonstrating community partnerships are preferred to multiple

applications from one community (please submit only one application per organisation). Projects with clearly defined objectives, timeframes and evaluation strategies will be

given preference. (Projects should be undertaken from February 2017 to February 2018 as projects cannot be funded retrospectively).

What Can't Be Funded? (If in doubt, please contact FRRR) Regular operational and administration costs will not be funded (e.g. rent, utilities,

regular wages, loan repayments). Previous FRRR grant recipients who have not completed final reporting requirements. Overseas travel and overseas projects. Projects that benefit a single individual rather than a community. Projects that support private / commercial business (NB social enterprise / local

economic development is eligible). Federal, State and Local Government core business and areas of responsibility. The encouragement or advancement of sport, recreation and social activities is not

considered a charitable activity by the Australian Taxation Office. Applications from sporting organisations need to clearly demonstrate benefit to the wider community.

If your project involves working directly with children / youth under 18 years, your organisation must have policies and procedures around working with children, Working with Children Checks, and the handling of child abuse complaints, or the project may not be funded. Liveable Communities Grants Program Funding Providers Department of Family & Community Services (NSW) Location NSW Funding Type Grant G07045 Primary Category Community Services & Development Eligible to Local Governments Businesses Not-for-Profits Individuals Funding Amount: $0 to $100,000 Total pool: undisclosed Round Closes 30-Sep-2016 2pm Last Round Closed 12-Nov-2015 Purpose The NSW Government created the Liveable Communities Grants program to capture the energy of Australian innovators and focus it on defining what it will mean to age well in the 21st century. Overview The Liveable Communities Grants program offers $4 million in funding over four years for projects that improve the lives of older people living in NSW. The program will support a range of ideas for new and improved programs, platforms and ventures that will help older people to live, learn, care, share, contribute and connect. Liveable communities enable all people, regardless of age or ability, to lead active, independent, healthy lives and access their community freely and safely. The 2016-17 grants focuses on projects that benefit people in later life. Older people are commonly defined as people over the age of 65 and Aboriginal people aged over 50. However, the experience of ageing can start much earlier and many projects and initiatives seek to benefit people in their 50’s and 60’s as they start planning for later life. It is anticipated that some projects may also benefit people with disability and carers. FACS is looking for projects that: are innovative. Broadly, an innovative idea is a novel solution or idea that solves a

problem or delivers effective, efficient and sustainable local outcomes. Innovative ideas often require people to think outside the box and find a solution to an old problem in a new way

have the potential to be sustainable and not rely on ongoing government funding are designed for replication. FACS encourages applicants to demonstrate that their

proposed project includes private partnerships and/or co-contributions beyond government funding.

Replication & Sustainability - Up to $100,000 Projects that have been tested and shown strong outcomes for older people, have demonstrated ongoing viability and are looking to be taken to the next level of impact.

Grant funding can only be used for expenses directly related to the delivery of your project. You are required to clearly outline your proposed expenditure in your application and demonstrate how your project will demonstrate value for money. Grants cannot be used for the following: Business as usual costs, general operating/administrative expenses or levies One-off capital, equipment or infrastructure. For example, we will not solely fund the

construction or fitout of a building, house or community space (centre, garden, park, outdoor gym) or the purchase of vehicles or equipment such as computers/iPads

Initiatives that you were previously or currently funded for, or projects that are merely seeking funding to extend to other locations. Grants to End Homelessness Funding Providers Mercy Foundation Location Aus Funding Type Grant G01665 Primary Category Community Services & Development Eligible to Businesses Not-for-Profits Funding Amount: $0 to $50,000 Total pool: undisclosed Round Closes 14-Oct-2016 Last Round Closed 26-Oct-2015 Purpose The Mercy Foundation Grants to End Homelessness are available for seeding initiatives, services, projects, advocacy and research that will contribute to the goal of ending homelessness by supporting housing first and permanent supportive housing solutions. Overview Projects that focus on chronic homelessness and women who experience chronic homelessness are currently priority areas for funding. These will generally be larger grants (up to $50,000 for any one year) with grants likely to be averaging $20,000 - $30,000. Chronic homelessness is defined as an episode of homelessness lasting 6 months or longer or multiple episodes of homelessness over a 12 month period or more. People who experience chronic homelessness are likely to have 'complex needs', which usually means that they have one or more of the following: developmental disability traumatic brain injury serious physical health problems history of abuse or trauma mental illness mental disorder

Page 15: Grants Available in September 2016 Reece Grant awards · In its first year, 2015 saw three plumbers receive grants to help fund international projects in East Timor, India and the

15

psychiatric disability addictions. Applicants must be able to specify measurable outcomes from the initiative. Those outcomes will need to show that the project has contributed to ending chronic homelessness or contributed substantially to increasing knowledge about the pathways into and out of homelessness – thereby increasing our understanding of how to prevent and how to end homelessness. All applications will need to outline their evaluation strategy and make clear how such outcomes will be measured. Applicants must be a legal entity, such as an incorporated association or company. If not, the applicant will need to be auspiced by an appropriate organisation. Unfortunately at this time, the Mercy Foundation is unable to fund services or projects which require recurrent or indefinite funding. However, depending on the project and its assessed contribution to meeting the objectives of these grants, the Mercy Foundation could choose to fund a project again the following year (subject to a further application). This can only happen in very special circumstances and should not be expected, but if a solid case is made then it might be considered. Grants over $5000 will generally receive 25% at the start, 50% following a satisfactory progress report and 25% at the completion of the project. The Foundation takes a commonsense approach to the release of funds. Organisations may negotiate to have their funding released in different proportions over the course of the contract if it is shown that the above funding component release would adversely affect their capacity to undertake or complete the project. Where possible, initiatives funded through the ‘Mercy Foundation Grants to End Homelessness’ will be visited at least once during their grant period. Limitations The criteria for the Mercy Foundation Grants to End Homelessness are: 1. They are available for seeding initiatives, services, projects, advocacy and research that

will contribute to the goal of ending homelessness by supporting housing first and permanent supportive housing solutions.

2. Priority is given to applications that focus on ending chronic homelessness particularly women who are experiencing chronic homelessness

3. Projects that initiate and collaborate through strategic partnerships among funders, policymakers, business leaders, government, housing and service providers are well regarded.

4. There must be measurable outcomes for the initiative. 5. Outcomes need to include that the project has contributed to ending chronic

homelessness or contributed substantially to increasing knowledge about pathways into and out of ending homelessness (thereby increasing our understanding of how to intervene early and end homelessness).
