Project Proposal This project is designed for solar energy with wireless power transmission for street lighting system. The main objective of this project is to develop a device for wireless power transfer. The concept of wireless power transfer was realized by Nicholas Tesla. Wireless power transfer can make a remarkable change in the field of the electrical energy which eliminates the use of conventional copper cables and current carrying wires, this project is built on using electronic circuit which converts ac 230 volts, 50hz to ac 12 volt high frequency. The output is fed to a tuned coil performing as primary of an air core transformer in the secondary coil develops a voltage of high frequency. The transfer of power is done by the primary to the secondary which is separated with a considerable distance and therefore the transfer could be seen as the primary transmits and secondary receives the power to run load.

This project has proposed a noval idea to transfer ac power wirelessly between two coils with less power dissipation utilizing renewable source of energy. Project submitted by: Ms. Nadia Mohammed and Mr. Hafiz (BE VI EEE).

A Day Out with BIT Family

This year on the 29th of January 2017 our faculty and staff had a fun day at Flamingo resort in Umm Al Quwain, a full day of fun, games, lunching together. We gave time to ourselves and the child within us, a complete rejuvenation from the daily routine, and a most awaited day for all of us at BIT(RAK). We hope to continue this tradition every year. We would like to thank Mr. Sudhakar Shinde for making the picnic possible. We would also like to thank each and every one who came and was a part of the Fun day on Sunday at Flamingo Beach resort.

PROJECT SUBMISSION TO GULF TRAFFIC AWARDS: ROAD TRAFFIC CONTROL USING REVERSE LANE SYSTEM:

Problem: U.A.E faces a major traffic problem at peak hours which results in mishaps, accidents, traffic jams etc. Traffic congestion is a phenomenon where automobiles queue up in lanes which has reached beyond its capacity. This happens at peak hours when most of the working population goes to earn their livelihood and students leave for schools & colleges. Remaining might just add on to the existing load of traffic creating further jams. Solution: Quite recently, Dubai government has introduced emergency lanes at the ends of each side to respond to emergency situations or in case of evacuations only. These lanes are mostly left vacant and rarely used. This sums up two emergency lanes, one on each side of the fast lane in both directions. Utilization of these emergency lanes as a reverse lane with proper guidelines and indications can loosen up the traffic to a greater extent. A reverse lane system basically just adds an extra lane on a congested road by transferring the divider further towards the direction of less traffic in the opposite direction.

Architectural Design Time Problem

Students of 2nd year, 3rd year and 4th year were assigned a “Time Problem” to be completed in 2 days. They worked in a group of 6 – 8 members to design DISPLAY SHELVES and MOVABLE SEATING for the common corridor areas of Department of Architecture, Birla Institute of Technology, Offshore Campus, RAK.

They used cheap and locally available materials like foam boards, vegetable crates, ropes and waste tyres for the same. The idea behind this exercise was for students to learn to work in groups and deliver a project given in a very limited time.

The final product was totally functional and in use by the Department.
