President’s Report By Ray Lamoureux

The summer is going by fast and we will return to Golden

Acres in less than two months now. We are returning on October 3rd

for the winter it seems like we just left. A lot has happen since the

last newsletter. Dave e-mailed me that a large storm hit Dunedin and

took down power lines and a transformer on Fourth Street. It also

took out our street lights and underground wiring for the street lights.

Dave had an electrician replace the wires and converted all the street

lights to LED lights. Karin and Dave have been working on the

clubhouse sign and the Golden Acres residents' sign. The park

continues to run while most of us are away having a good time.

All owners should have received your vote by now for the sprinkler installation in the

clubhouse. Please fill it out and return it in the self-addressed envelope as soon as you can. We

need a fifty percent plus one no votes to not require installing sprinklers in the clubhouse. If you

did not receive a vote please call Heidi LeVac at Progressive Management to request a vote.

The board will be receiving the proposed budget for 2017. The board will go over the

proposed budget and approve it to be sent out to the owners. The budget meeting has been

changed from November 9th to November 16th so the whole board can attend.

Jonathan Demonte's office will longer handle the sales for units. He will still be involved

with the issuance of the share so we won’t run into title issues again. The lawyer that will be

handling the sales is in Largo and her name is Mary McManus Taylor. The change came about a

new law enacted last year. Jonathan hopes the move to the new lawyer will be seamless and we

will not see the change.

The board hopes everyone is having a safe and happy summer.

From the Editor’s Desk By Sue Bailey [email protected]

Greetings:

September, the ninth month of the year, is when a well known

holiday is observed. Labor Day will be celebrated on the fifth of the

month this year. I am also looking forward to the autumn equinox

(beginning of fall) on September 22nd when hopefully we will have

some cooler weather here at Golden Acres.

An Ice Cream Social was held at the clubhouse and you can

read about it in this month's newsletter. In addition, a beautiful

memorial was written by Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home - Stayner Chapel for Fraser Muir

and provided to me for the newsletter by his wife Joan Muir (unit 19) and family. Several GA

residents attended Fraser's Funeral and Ron & Nancy Short (unit 44) were able to capture a

picture of all of them. AquaFit's instructors have some great news to announce for this month's

newsletter. A special achievement was acquired by Bill & Kay Erickson's (unit 210) grandson

Michael. Roz Frabotta (unit 94) keeps us informed of what's been going on in her life this

summer. Carol Spinney (unit 187) had a good time with family as well. Many thanks to all that

provided articles and pictures for the September newsletter.

Until next time,

May God bless and keep you well and safe…

Greetings from the Office By Karin Desmone

Happy September to All!!! I have to ask of all residents

that you do not use the office as a mailing address. The office

can’t be responsible for accepting deliveries on your behalf. The

office is open three hours daily Monday through Thursday and

closed on Friday’s. Packages dropped off after hours will sit

outside and be subject to inclement weather as well as theft. The

Office can’t be responsible for damaged and lost parcels. Please

make other arrangements if you are not going to be in the park to

accept your packages. Thanks for your understanding.

Many residents have phoned from their summer residences

with their return date to the park. Thank you very much for the

information. Upon your return, please make sure that you are

signing in at the office or in the library. I look forward to meeting everyone.

Obituary for Fraser Muir By Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home - Stayner Chapel

I n M e m o r y o f Fraser Alexander Muir

Muir, Fraser Alexander

Fraser was born in Westville, Nova Scotia, on June 27, 1924, and died

at home in Wasaga Beach, ON, surrounded by his family and all of our

love on July 7, 2016. Survived by his dear wife of 62 years Joan Marie

(nee MacDonald) of Sydney NS, and his five children; Donald

(Heather) of Toronto, ON, Sheona Ayles (John) of Quesnel, BC, Ellen

(Dan Novosad) of Rosemere, QC, Sandy (Heather) of Calgary, AB and

Brenda (Dalton Wenstob) of Edmonton, AB, and ten grandchildren,

Heather, Jennice, Alex, Andrew, Jenna, Quinn, Riley, Fraser, Saoirse, Tobias and great

grandson, Carson. Also survived by his niece and nephew Vicki (Nelson) Dengler of Gentry, AR

and Robert Muir, of Dublin CA. Fraser joined the RCAF at the age of 18 and served as a mid

upper gunner on the Lancaster completing 36 sorties with 50 Squadron in Bomber Command.

After he returned, he graduated from St. Francis Xavier University where he met the love of his

life via a snowball on St. F.X. Day, Dec 3rd, 1947. Hired by Air Canada in Halifax, he spent the

bulk of his 30 year career in Montreal living in Rosemere, QC, for 44 years where he served on

town council for 23 of those years. He called Wasaga Beach home for the past 13 years, a setting

where he routinely exercised his passion for photography capturing sunsets as God intended for

them to be seen. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian

Legion, RCAF Wing 441, and served on countless committees and executive bodies of

community and church organizations, including the National Executive for several years with the

Air Canada Pionairs. His most notable accolades for his gift of always putting others' needs

before his own are being among the first of inductees into the Hall of Thought at St. F. X.

University where he was described as “a man whose creeds are sharing and self-sacrifice”. He

was also recognized by the Canadian government with the Citation for Citizenship Award, as

well as, being presented with the Legion of Honour from the Republic of France. His flight to

heaven was direct - God’s reward for having dedicated his life to the service of his country,

community, church and family. His dry wit and sense of humour meant many a laugh was shared

throughout his life and he continued to make us laugh in his final days. A world traveller, a

gifted storyteller, a deep listener, a magnificient dancer with only one dance partner. Godspeed,

Dad, your life and love changed the world. Friends will be received on Monday, July 11, 2016 at

Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home - Wasaga Chapel, 509 River Road West, from 2-4 pm and

7-9 pm. Funeral Mass to be held on Tuesday, July 12th, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Noel Chabanel

Catholic Church, 133 Dunkerron Avenue, Wasaga Beach. Thanks to Doctors Holloway, Lisi,

Pressnail, and the St. Elizabeth Nurses and PSWs. Your compassion during this sacred journey

for Fraser matters. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood,

Ontario, are welcome, though an act of kindness in his name would be equally appreciated.

Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home - Stayner Chapel is located in the province of Ontario,

Canada.

Summertime Update By Roz Frabotta

It's been a very busy and fun

time since leaving our

snowbird paradise. The

travel bug has bit me and I've

hit the road a couple of times

already....returned to Vegas

for another quick trip in May

and enjoyed my annual

"Girls Getaway" trip to

Findley Lake, NY in June.

That's always a blast and this

year I was able to spend a bit

of time with GA friends Kurt

and Gail Novakowski on

their turf in nearby Erie, PA!

Next stops: Baseball "road trip" to California in August for the Tribe series against Oakland and

South Bend for the Notre Dame-Michigan State game in September!

AquaFit News By Nancy Baker

Marlene Scott, who has taught

and developed programs as a

volunteer at the YMCA, has decided

to retire after more than 25 years. In

the past, she has been awarded a

lifetime membership for her service

to the Y to show their appreciation

for her dedication to fitness and

Aquafit in particular. Upon her

retirement, she was presented with a

bouquet of flowers and many hugs

from her classes as noted in the

photos.

Nevertheless, she says she will

continue to teach Aquafit at the

Golden Acres pool so get your suits

out and get ready to have fun again in

the water. She is looking forward to

returning to Golden Acres in the fall,

as we all are.

Ice Cream Social By Timmie Strader Pics by Sue Bailey

The cream social, held on Thursday, July 21st, was such a success we decided to consider

it the " FIRST ANNUAL". Approximately 30 people were enjoying the ice cream with all the

toppings or the floats. It seems like lots of the people stayed and visited with neighbors they

haven't seen for awhile. Thanks Donna Delf , Marsha Baylor, and Norma Miller for all of your

help. A special extra thanks goes to Mary Capone and Norma Miller who helped me call the

residents so I didn't have to deliver flyers in this heat.

I hope everyone is enjoying this summer and the activities we have planned. It's so nice

to get together without leaving the Park. We have planned a pizza and a movie night in August

and a Pot Luck Dinner is planned for September.

Thanks everyone for making this summer one for all to enjoy right here in wonderful

Golden Acres!

Editor's Note: A special thanks to Timmie Strader for organizing the ice cream social and all the

activities for the summer. It has been very enjoyable!

Visit to Prince Edward Island By Carol Spinney

I spent 10 days on Prince Edward Island visiting my son and family in Charlottetown PEI

and then Parlee Beach in Shediac, NB where they have a summer home.

I enjoyed a visit with Bea Rochford in her lovely home. Her daughter, Barb, drove us

around the area and downtown historical sites. The island may be small but it is a big part of

Canadian history. PEI is a beautiful, beautiful place with rolling hills, many farms and beaches

too numerous to count. I have enjoyed the low humidity.

I fly back to Dunedin August 9th and 2 days later fly to OH to visit Roz Frabotta, Peg

Slapak and other folks I know in area.
