COURSE DESCRIPTIONThis course consists of a series of lectures from Harvard Faculty and guest speakers.Panel presentations will also be offered to update learners on current topics. Thelectures focus on the most relevant health topics that face women in resource-poornations today. This conference will address maternal mortality, obstetric fistulas,female genital cutting, the impact of HIV and malaria in pregnancy, the role of theob/gyn in disaster relief and global health care delivery.

LEARNING OBJECTIVESUpon completion of this course, participants will be able to:• Evaluate the fundamental issues of maternal mortality• Determine the causes of obstetric fistulas and how to repair them• Analyze the role of the obstetrician and gynecologist in disaster relief• Provide clinical and culturally competent care to circumcised women• Assess the impact of HIV in pregnancy• Assess the impact of malaria in pregnancy• Analyze the challenges of health care delivery in resource poor countries and

develop strategies to positively impact care.

TARGET AUDIENCEPhysicians including obstetricians/gynecologist and family practitioners along withnurses and midwives.
