Our Mission

To serve the Bhatia Community through a variety

of community based initiatives that are aimed at the social

welfare of all members of the community;

to promote the growth of Bhatia-owned enterprises;

to contribute to the intellectual, academic and

all-round development of Bhatia youth; to evolve as an

apex global organization that seeks to provide

a platform to all Bhatia families and community bodies

to connect on community related matters.

Our Genesis

• The first meeting of eminent Bhatias was held at Indian Merchants’ Chamber, Mumbai on July 31, 2010 to consider the formation of an apex organization for the Bhatia community

• Managing Committee of GBF was formed on Dec 18, 2010

• The GBF office was inaugurated on January 1, 2011 at Dossa Mansion in Fort, Mumbai, courtesy Shri Nitin Dossa

• GBF obtained its Registration as a Society on April 26, 2011 (Reg. No. 1266 under Societies Act, 1860)

• GBF is also registered as a Trust ; Reg. No. F-42259 (Mumbai) under Mumbai Public Trusts Act, 1950

The Journey So Far

• National Meet of Bhatia Organisations was organized on Jan 23, 2011. 150 delegates from across India representing various Bhatia Mitra Mandals, Mahajans, Associations, Trusts and Institutions participated in this full day event. The effort made by GBF to bring everyone under one common umbrella was unanimously appreciated.

• GBF website www.globalbhatia.org was launched on Jan 23, 2011

• Parichay Milan 2011 for 384 Bhatia boys and girls was successfully organized on March 23, 2011

• On the occasion of the Parichay Milan, GBF also organised a Bhatia Food Festival serving 18 items from our traditional cuisine. This was enjoyed by nearly 800 people.

The Journey So Far

• An educational event “An Interactive session with Dr. Mukul Asher on Importance of Education and Livelihood Opportunities” was organized on June 4, 2011 at Sunderbai Hall, Churchgate. Dr. Asher, a GBF Trustee, is a Professorial Fellow at the prestigious National University of Singapore.

• Aptitude Test and Career Counseling project for Bhatia students (Std IX – XII) was organized on July 17 & 24, 2011 at two locations (HPT School for South Mumbai and SVP School-Kandivali for Western suburbs). We received an overwhelming response of over 180 Bhatia students.

• The publication History of the Bhatia Community Vol 1: Mumbai, based on the Ph.D. thesis of Prof. Mangalaben Purandare was released at a glittering function on Jan 15, 2012. 950 copies of the publication have been sold.

• This publication won the First Prize for the best historical publication at the Konkan Itihas Parishad Third Conference at Goa recently and Dr. Purandare was felicitated by the Speaker of the Goa Assembly.

• GBF Annual Sports Event was organized between Nov 2011 and January 2012 at Mumbai. We received over 800 registrations. H.E. Shri C.H. Kapadia, Hon. Consul General of Madagascar, was Chief Guest for the event.

• Youth@GBF, an e-newsletter aimed at connecting the whole community, particularly Bhatia youth, was launched in Sep 2011. 8 issues of this newsletter have been circulated so far to an audience of more than 3,000 readers.

• Parichay Milan 2012 was successfully organized on Jan 28-29, 2012 at Sunderbai Hall, Churchgate.

• GBF’s Culture and Heritage Cell was successful in ensuring that the name ‘Bhatia Baug’ was restored and prominently displayed at the garden opposite VT. This site would otherwise have been lost from the Bhatia community’s proud tradition of philanthropy towards the city of Mumbai.

• GBF has a presence on Facebook thanks to Shri Jaisinh Sampat of Pune. The GBF FB group has over 2,400 members. Visit us at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/globalbhatiafoundation/

• Outreach Program: we continue to contact and meet with Bhatia organisations around the world to explore co-operation. We have organised courtesy meetings with:

– Shri Arvind Dhutia, President –UK Bhatia Association.

– Shri Jogesh Asar, President of Dar-es-Salaam Bhatia Mahajan

– Shri Kanubha Babla of Mombasa, Kenya

• A GBF Team visited Dakshin Bharat Bhatia Mitra Mandal (DBBMM) at Calicut on Dec 1-2, 2012. An MOU has been signed with DBBMM for joint projects and initiatives.

• Release of an e-publication “Kutchh Kamagari Paintings – A Forgotten Heritage” by Shri Pradip Zaveri at the hands of Shri Narayan Mulani. This is the outcome of Shri Zaveri’s painstaking research about this art form.

• Medical Camp covering diagnostic tests and physician examinations was held on Feb 3, 2013 at Mumbai. Over 270 people attended the Camp and benefited from it.

The Journey So Far

• Parichay Milan 2013 was organised on Feb 17, 2013 at Sunderbai Hall and was a resounding success with 245 participants.

• Indoor Sports for the youth of the community were held on Feb 24, 2013 and were enjoyed by over 300 participants.

Future Projects

• Publication of the second volume of History of The Bhatia Community by Prof. Mangalaben Purandare, our official archivist/ historian. She has commenced her research for this publication.

• Second edition of the Aptitude Test and Career Counseling project. Encouraged by the participation and utility of the first session, GBF is planning to organise this in Jalgaon for Maharashtra, Rajkot for Gujarat, Bhuj for Kutchh and also in South India.

• Restoration and Maintenance of Ratanshi Mulji Fountain near Mint Road, Mumbai.

• Naming the causeway at Narayan Sarovar after it’s donor viz., Liladhar Gokuldas Pasta.
