What is GMO?

What effects does GMO have on the human body?

GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms. Commonly used in fertilizer, GMO increases the abundance of a crop.

The reason the wheat growth has increased so much more because of this fertilizer, is because it is more efficient. But sometimes too much efficiency with fertilizer can be a very bad thing. This is why; when insects feed on a crop treated with this fertilizer , the chemicals begin to eat away holes in its intestines, destroying is colon, killing it within hours.

If this is the effect GMO is having on insects, what effect is it having on humans? The same.

As people take in more and more of this GMO-based fertilizer, the chemicals are slowly chewing holes in our intestines. In elementary school language, “its eating our guts!” Wheat, corn, soy, rice, potatoes, peas, and tomatoes are only a few products being poisoned by the fertilizer. GMO is found in over 80% of food products. There are even injections and other therapies and treatments to change livestock meat products such as cows and pigs.

‘Fun’ Fact: A group of college students (school was not named) who experimented with the GMO treatments on a litter of pigs. After the treatment , the pigs had to be renamed to “Enviropig” because legally, it wasn’t a real pig anymore. Their digestive systems were completely different from an organically raised pig.

After much research, I unfortunately couldn’t find anything involving ingredients that make up a sample of GMO fertilizer. The subject is very sensitive and exclusive. Also, I couldn’t find an official GMO test. Just experiments done on other species like insects and rats. But, there are many recommendations from certified healthy eating blogs and from Dr. Mehmet Cengitz Oz (Dr. Oz) saying to stay away from GMO products. Hopefully more will be exposed on the topic of GMO in the future, educating more people on GMO and making food products safer.

Though GMO is extremely hard to stay away from (due to the fact that its in practically everything) but there are specific food companies that raise GMO-free, organic crops. There is even a foundation called “The Non-GMO Project” that was created to help educate people on how to stay away from GMO. They update their website every week recommending new, verified, GMO-free products. Also, in grocery stores, any verified product is labeled with the “Non-GMO” logo.
