UK

GDES provides decommissioning operatives across the Dounreay (UK - NDA) site including PFR (Na) and DFR (NaK). We also provide Professional Services to DSRL which includes providing Engineers and conducting studies. Additionally, we have worked on other sites handling Na and NaK from reactor projects including JRC-Ispra and JRC-Karlsruhe Typical scope of work includes:

Technical studies Risk assessments Radiological assessments Method Statements Implementation / Operations Disposal

DSRL Decommissioning Framework

10

UK

• In 2013 NDSL (now GDES) was awarded a framework by DSRL to provide decommissioning services following a similar framework which was held from August 2010 building upon an even earlier framework for operatives in 2007. The scope of the new framework potentially includes:

o Full turnkey decommissioning projects

o FEED studies

o Provision of Decommissioning Teams

• The framework operates through ‘mini – competitions’ and for the current tranche (up to 2017) NDSL is providing the largest team (~80 personnel) on the Dounreay site.

• The teams are allocated through the GDES Labour Allocation Manager (co-located with DSRL on site) across the site in Reactors (DFR & PFR) and the Fuel Cycle Area (FCA).

• As a result the teams are experienced in working in a variety of hazardous environments including Alpha (PCM), Alkali metals and Beta / Gamma.

• Serves 12 separate facilities in the Fuel Cycle Area and is connected to 17 individual active and non-active ventilation systems

• Enabled the transfer of all systems from the original centralised system in the course of a weekend with minimal disruption

• The system has a capacity of 84 m3/s

• NDSL came up with the concept design and developed that into a comprehensive scheme design
