WHAT GOOD LOOKS LIKE
Students have different career guidance
needs at different stages. Opportunities for
advice and support should be tailored to each
of these stages, with diversity and equality
embedded in the school’s careers
programme.
A school’s careers programme should actively
seek to challenge stereotypical thinking and
raise aspirations.
Schools should keep systematic records of the
individual advice given to each student and
subsequent agreed decisions. All students
should have access to these records to
support their career development.
Schools should collect and maintain accurate
data for each student on their education,
training or employment destinations for at
least three years after they leave school.

A core group of 12-24 young people are identified as not reaching their potential.
An employability worker supports each learner to identify interests, goals and experiences that will help them to raise their aspirations.
Wider focus groups are included in some of the opportunities. Universal delivery is also provided for whole year groups.

The project has been working with OIEA for 3 academic years and includes the secondary and 3 primaries
This partnership approach has contributed to the success of the school and their approach to address the needs of the whole school and wider community
Context – we are as good as anyone.Supporting a community • A deprived ward and has an over 50% Pupil premium whole cohort.
• Ilkeston has a high level of residents with either no qualifications or equal to 1 or more GCSEs at grade D or below than national average (census 2011).
• Ward has 20% less higher and intermediate managerial, administrative or professional households than the national average and has the highest level of unemployment in the ward of Erewash.
• Manufacturing still provides more than 30% of the jobs.
• The percentage of residents who rate their health as “very bad” is higher than the national average and the level of crime is the highest as compared to all surrounding areas with a high level of anti-social behaviour and violent crime.
• Previous falling school role.
• Previous high level of exclusions.
• Previous whole school attendance below national Average.
• Previous NEET higher than average.
• Previous OFSTED identified CAIEG and PHSEE teaching as below par.
• Previous outcomes below floor for Progress 8.

Commitment 3. Addressing the needs of each pupil• The careers programme has strong backing from the head teacher or
principal, senior leaders and governing body. (Written into ADP, Principal as LM, Link Governor, termly reports of impact for LGB etc.)
• Identified Middle leader with extra time given. They report to Governors with the Principal. Identified admin undertaking level 6 CAIEG training.
• CAIEG programme is set out on the school’s website and we try to promote each month through the school’s social media accounts and local media.

Impact and future steps
- Careers Local bid of £10,200. Provides business mentors and reduce their chances of becoming NEET.
• 0% NEET last years Year 11.
• 99% of parents stated that their child is taught well and is making good progress at the academy (Parent view)
• 96% said that they receive all of the necessary information from the academy.(Parent View).
• Introduction of Unifrog system.
• Full in year 7 2018-2019 for the first time in many years.
