Twinsburg is looking to shake off a heartbreaking 38-36 loss at home to Wadsworth in Week 7. The Tigers travel to Hudson to take on a very talented and confident Explorers squad. Hudson is on a roll after defeating previously unbeaten Stow win Week 7. The Explorers are 6-1 and playing their last home game of the regular season as they host Twinsburg on Oct. 14.

“This Hudson team is very talented and showed a tremendous amount of mental toughness in their big, come-from-behind win over Stow last week,” Twinsburg coach Mike Bell said. “Offensively they rotate three talented quarterbacks and each of them presents different types of skill sets. Shawn Surdy, Hudson’s offensive coordinator does a good job of rotating them at appropriate times depending on what he believes the offense needs from that position.

“They are also talented at the other skilled positions which allows for them to maintain a balanced attack. Defensively, they play a majority of seniors that know how to play fast and aggressive. They return both their kicker and punter from a year ago, and both of them do an excellent job in helping win the field position battle - that ability showed last week in their big win over Stow. Up front, on both sides of the ball, they are physical and play sound fundamental football. The key for our team this week is to keep the focus on us. We need to continue to improve on fundamentals and understanding how important the small details of each position are in playing well. We need to give great effort and play Hudson hard for 48 minutes. Our coaches have developed a great game plan, we need to execute that plan on the field of play vs. Hudson.”

Explorers QB Colt Pallay threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns to lead Hudson (6-1) to a dramatic 25-24 win over Stow in Week 7 Greg Mailey caught a pair of scores in the win. Sophomore QB William Wallace and Jackson Parker also are playmakers running the offense for the Explorers, who are led by a talented offensive line.

Defensively, Hudson has allowed just 64 points in its six wins. The Explorers yielded 51 in a loss to Canton McKinley. Twinsburg (1-6) has a two-headed threat at QB with Jalen Tucker and Adam Van de Motter. Tre Radford is a multi-talented weapon on offense for the Tigers.

Defensively, Kris Jones is coming off a big game for Twinsburg, and James Grammens continues his strong play at linebacker.

Twinsburg suffered its toughest loss of the season as visiting Wadsworth recorded two safeties – the second of which proved to be the game-winner – in a 38-36 win at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers and Grizzlies exchanged touchdowns for the entire first half with Twinsburg taking a 28-21 lead into halftime.

Cam’Ron McClain had a pair of 1-yard TD runs and Adam Van de Motter threw TD passes to James Besett and Tre Radford in the opening 24 minutes of play.

In the third quarter, Wadsworth (4-3) got a safety and a kickoff return for a touchdown to take a 29-28 edge into the final 12 minutes.

A touchdown run by Jalen Tucker and two-point conversion put Twinsburg on top again, 36-29, as the fourth quarter began. Joey Baughman threw his third TD pass of the night to Craig Palidar as the Grizzlies tied the game at 36.

The final points of the game came on a Wadsworth safety, providing the final two-point margin of victory.

Van de Motter threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers, who fell to 1-6 on the season.

Hudson High School head football coach Ron Wright asked for and was granted a one-year leave from his gridiron responsibilities due to personal and family health concerns and commitments, the district announced in last spring.

According to the release, Wright plans to return to his coaching post for the 2017-18 school year. Wright has a 54-10 record as the head coach of the Explorers.

The district filled the position internally, promoting a member of Wright's staff to interim head coach - Jeff Gough, a Hudson alumnus.

Wright, who has led the Explorers on deep playoff runs each of the past two seasons, has held the position for the past five seasons. Wright has been a member of the football staff since 2004.

Wright and his wife live in Stow, and one of his son's currently plays for the Stow Bulldogs, a team that reached the Division I state semi-final last season.

Wright will continue teaching at the high school

Bell won his 100th career game with a 28-27 victory over North Royalton on Sept. 16.

Bell’s first win came in 2002 at Lake Catholic.

“To be honest, it is kind of a big relief to have finally gotten that 100th win out of the way,” Bell said. “It seems as though it's been a monkey on the back for a while. I can tell you this, I did not do it alone. Every player and coach that I have had the opportunity to work with is responsible for this achievement. It has caused me to do a little reflecting and reminiscing and to realize just how blessed I am to do what I do.”

The Hudson Explorers have reached the state semifinals in each of the last two year.

In 2014, the Explorers completed an undefeated season and defeated Division I heavyweights Mentor and St. Ignatius before losing in the state semifinal to St. Edward.

In 2015, Hudson fell back to Division II, but still managed to make it back to the state semifinals, dropping a tough one to Massillon Perry to end the season.

Twinsburg Tiger Stadium is one of the most used athletic facilities in Northeast Ohio. Twinsburg officials say

Tiger Stadium's field gets used upwards of 950 times each year for various athletic events and practices --

from football, to soccer, to Relay For Life, to regional sporting events.

In the summer of 2015, the Stadium received a major upgrade to the playing surface. New field turf was

installed featuring a unique blue border and a large Tiger logo at midfield. The 'grass' has a “paneled” look

of lighter and darker green shades every five yards replacing a the carpet that was installed in 2005.

Tiger Stadium has become a perennial site for OHSAA football playoff games, hosting two games last year

including the Region 23 championship game.

TIGERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Mike Bell is in his second year as coach of the Tigers and is looking to build on his past successes, bringing winning football back to Twinsburg.

Prior to coming to Twinsburg, Bell served one year as the head coach at Eastlake North and had a very successful 12-year run as head coach at Lake Catholic in Mentor.

In 12 seasons at Lake Catholic, the Cougars won 6 NCL Championships, qualified for the state playoffs 8 times (playoff record of 17-8) with 5 Regional Title appearances (2003, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010) and 3 state semifinal appearances (2007, 2009, and 2010).

Prior to 2002, Bell served as the Cougars' defensive coordinator for three seasons, winning the Division III State Championship in 2001.

Prior to coaching at Lake Catholic, Bell spent three years at Willoughby South as a position coach and defensive coordinator, four years at Maple Heights, and two seasons at his alma mater Pymatuning Valley.

1 - What is your background and how did you ascend to the role of Twinsburg marching band director?I attended Wooster High School and grew up in and around Wooster, Ohio. I was fortunate to be involved in a number of activities and sports, and was a three sport varsity athlete in soccer, swimming and track. My positive experiences in high school and my desire to help others made it an easy choice to become a music educator. I completed my undergraduate degree in Music Education at The University of Akron. Immediately after college I took a position as the Director of Bands in the Montpelier Exempted Village School District, which is in a rural community in northwest Ohio. The skills that I built during those four years of teaching experience allowed me to gain the experience to make a move back home to northeast Ohio. Fortunately, I was able to take over the Director of Bands role here in Twinsburg, where I plan to stay!

2 - High School football has many emotions, traditions, etc. What role do you feel the band plays in Friday night game day?I believe that the high school football experience is a communal one: the players, coaches, cheerleaders, fans, and the marching band all work together to create the Friday night atmosphere. I believe tradition is extremely important, as it unites past and present people in acommon experience. I see Coach Bell and myself working towards the same goal: creating traditions that are meaningful to our students/athletes. I love the feeling of gameday, and I get fired up for the experience as soon as we start up our marching cadence to enter Tiger Stadium. The Tiger Band's role is to enhance the gameday experience through what we play and how we support the team.Our halftime and pregame performances are also very important to our traditions, and I am proud that we are able to entertain our fans while improving as musicians.

3 - What is your favorite part of game night? The anthem, the alma mater, touchdowns, etc?The march in to the stadium is big for me. It symbolizes the beginning of the whole Friday night experience. The team is on the field putting in work and getting ready for the game, and our arrival signifies that the game will be starting soon. Besides that, I love seeing how invested some of our band students get in the game (director included). I also enjoy seeing our student section continue to embrace the Tiger Band, it gets better every season.

4 - Twinsburg Coach Mike Bell is working hard to put the best product on the field and win games – how important is it to you that when fans and alumni and others come to the game that the Tigers marching band is equally representative for the school and the team?

Our performances and how we carry ourselves are hugely important to me. I want my students to be the best versions of themselves out on the field and in the stands. I love seeing alumni come back and check in our program as it grows. We are at our most visible during the marching season and our fans/community deserves to see our best efforts. To that point, I believe that Coach Bell and I are doing the same thing: we are trying to build our programs to be the best that we can be. I hope people understand that it takes time to build something the right way. It takes "buy in" from all involved. Though we may look dissimilar, the band and the football team share many things in common: we strive to be greater than the sum of our parts, we need every person on the field to contribute, and we are always striving to get better. The teamwork component is what will make our programs great, and I look forward to building alongside Coach Bell.

October 14, 2003 - - In the 8th inning of Game 6 of the NLCS, with Chicago leading Florida 3-0 in the game and holding a 3 games to 2 lead in

the series, several spectators attempted to catch a foul ball off the bat of Florida's Luis Castillo. One of the fans – Steve Bartman – reached for the

ball, deflecting it and disrupting a potential catch by Cubs outfielder Moisés Alou. If Alou had caught the ball, it would have been the second out in the

inning, and the Cubs would have been just four outs away from winning their first National League pennant since 1945. Instead, the Cubs ended up

surrendering eight runs in the inning and shortly afterward lost the game, 8–3. When the Cubs were eliminated in the seventh game the next day, the

"Steve Bartman incident" was seen as the "first domino" in the turning point of the series. In the aftermath of the incident, Bartman, a lifelong Cubs

fan, had to be escorted from the stadium by security guards and placed under police protection for a time, when his name and address were made

public.

October 14, 1992 - - The Atlanta Braves score three runs in the ninth inning of Game 7 of the NLCS to defeat the Pirates 3-2 and win the NL

pennant. With the bases loaded, the Braves' Francisco Cabrera cracked a two-rn single scoring David Justice and a sliding Sid Bream with the game-

winning run. The Braves would lose the World Series to the Toronto Blue Jays.
