NME is a weekly British Indie Rock music magazine. The fact that it is a weekly magazine could suggest that the target audience is younger then those who buy the more expensive monthly magazine. After reading the magazine article and looking at the rest of the magazine I believe the target audience is young males or females in-between the ages of 18-22 who are up to date with the latest band, singers and tours. These individuals are interested in the life of these bands who are all about drinking, smoking and girls. This particular article is written in third person, we know this because the use of “their”, “they”, the bands name “two door cinema club” and also the band members names “Kevin”, “Alex” and “Sam”. The use of the third person makes the writer of the article seem as if they are narrating to the reader what happened and what was said during the interview, just like if a story was being told. From the target audience we could also suggest that a lot of colloquial and explicit words would be used throughout. This is proven as band members say things like “Shit, we better get out gear of really quickly!” and “I just looked like a complete dick” the fact that NME didn’t asterisk the explicit words out further illiterates that

This is proven as band members say things like “Shit, we better get out gear of really quickly!” and “I just looked like a complete dick” the fact that NME didn’t asterisk the explicit words out further illiterates that this magazine is for 18-22 year olds, whom most likely swear and would not be offended by the explicit words. In addition the writer of the article uses words like “swagger” and “chaps” again showing the use of colloquial words and the target audience.

Mixmag is a monthly British Dance music and clubbing magazine. Because Mixmag is a monthly magazine means that it is more expensive, meaning that it is normally bought by consumers with a bigger disposable income. After looking at this article I believe the target audience is not older readers but also not younger readers, I think the age gap is from 25-30, both male and female, because this genre of music could be seen as quite old school, which is what people in this age group will listen to and know about. I believe these individuals will be interested in going out raving, getting drunk, clubbing and meeting girls/boys.

The article from the Mixmag magazine is written in 1st person as if a diary entry. We know his from the sentences like “By 10.00am the hardcore have dispersed to smaller venues around the site…” and “DJ Tom Pooks is warming up with a set of muscular tech-house”. These sentences are written as if the journalist is writing while she is experiencing it, giving the reader the sense that they are there with him or her.

Because of the target audience we could suggest that the article will be in-formal, however the tone of the article makes it seem formal to the reader. In addition the use of words like “fascinating” and “surreal” and “intriguing” all suggest an older reader who is educated.
