Our school year is coming to close and that means we are all very busy. Concerts, programs, parties, graduations, and other events fill our time in addition to PTA responsibilities. I am so proud of all 37 of our local PTAs in Frisco. You provide sup-port, education, and serve our children and community with joyous hearts. I appreciate the time and commitment of each local PTA President, their board, and their members. Every-thing you do matters. Whether you choose to read to a class-room, serve as a mentor, make copies, or demonstrate bicycle safety at a health fair, the way you support the education process is not important. What is important is that you take the step and volunteer. PTA truly makes a difference and helps to “make every child’s potential a reality”. I would also like to recognize my outstanding Council board for this year. They have worked very hard this year to provide support and assistance. I could not do my job successfully without them. On Friday April 30th we had the privilege to honor 36 new TXPTA Lifetime Award Recipients at

the Frisco Council of PTAs 8th Annual awards banquet. These honorees have gone above and beyond for our children and our schools. The banquet was attended by over 200 people from all over the dis-trict. This special evening took place at Centennial High School and started off with a very special con-cert by the districts honor orchestra directed by Dr. Holt of Centennial High School. Macaroni Grill catered a wonderful buffet dinner. The dinner was followed by a beautiful presentation of our 2009-2010 TXPTA Lifetime honorees.

Dear PTA Council, As dedicated members of PTA, I know all of you understand the importance of setting a budget for the coming year. We are still in the budget planning process in FISD. At this time we are attempting to finalize a budget that provides the students and teachers with the high quality of education and tools for learning that they have become accustomed to while also being sensitive to the taxpayers and working within the constraints of these economic times and the uncertainty of school finance. Dr. Rick Bankston and others have been hard at work and have already taken steps to close the $9.6 million gap between projected revenue and budget considerations. Some of the areas being addressed to balance the budget, without raising the tax rate, are looking at plant maintenance and operations and trying to budget as close to true projected costs as possible for utilities; having personnel expand their roles and take on more duties or serve more campuses; and using more federal funds to pay for special education personnel. In addition we have been looking very closely at comparisons of our student to staff ratios to other districts and ours are lower – some of that can be attributed to rapid growth and opening new campuses and trying to maintain comparable programming at the newly opened, smaller schools. We are working to make headway in being as efficient as possible in scheduling at our secondary schools, particularly high schools. This will mean making every effort to maintain opti-mum/full class sizes and to reduce instances where there are small numbers. Consequently, the only change the students might notice from these cost savings efforts is that their classes might be more consistently full. As student growth is what impacts state funding, we are encouraged by this month’s increase in new housing starts. We have based budget estimates on growth of a conservative 2,800 students for weighted daily average attendance, so more growth will mean more revenue. With close to 3,500 kindergarten students projected to join us this year, we are well on our way! We will keep you posted through the website on the budget progress in June. In closing, we thank you for your continued support and for all that PTA does to enhance oppor-tunities for students in our schools and to show appreciation for our teachers by your words and deeds. We could not be the district we are without the volunteers who make a difference every day and provide the “extras” our campuses have been so grateful to receive. Borchardt Elementary raised $948 at this year's annual Ruth Borchardt Day celebration which is held on Miss Ruth's birthday, March 5. The money was raised through the help and support of Scotty P's Restaurant and through the Chunk-Your-Change campus project. The proceeds go toward a scholarship fund that will be awarded to a Liberty High School graduate who attended Ruth Borchardt Elementary School. As we wind down toward the end of the school year, we must also thank our Hospitality Committee for a very special Teacher Appreciation Week! The week was filled with Spa Day pampering, a Candy Bar, Teacher’s Favorite treats, Mexican luncheon, Breakfast and Sonic Drink Day! Just our way to say thanks you to the special Bledsoe teachers and staff who do so much for our children!!

SongFest was a lot of fun too! A hot day and Bledsoe was well repre-sented with our choir and students enjoying the Candy Walk with special prizes. In addition, sweet treats and drinks were sold at the PTA’s booth.

Fifth grade teachers, PE staff and support staff came to Memorial Sta-dium to cheer on Bledsoe’s track teams during the May 17th Track Meet. Bledsoe had 100 students competing with 100 students from Rogers Elementary. The students ran in 50 yard, 100 yard, 400 yard (1/4 mile) and 400 yard relay races. There were six heats in each race for boys and girls. In addition there was a 3-legged race, softball throw and Tug O’ War. Each student received a ribbon for each race in which they competed. Bledsoe’s team won the Tug O’ War for the first time! Thanks to the 50 parents, staff and volunteers who made this special day happen for our students!


April was a big month for Bledsoe with our Spring Fling on April 16th. Held on a Friday night this year, the event was well attended and included favorites like Bounce Houses, indoor and out-door carnival games, Cake Walk, Sandy Candy, Popcorn, Baskin Robbins ice cream, Photo Booth and Silent Auc-tion! We had beautiful weather and a very successful event for the PTA. We greatly appreciate all of our volunteers, staff and sponsors without whom these events would never take place!! Funds raised will be put towards future capital and playground improvements. Special thanks to our first dad on our PTA Board, Tyler Brossart. Tyler joined the Bledsoe PTA in February and organized a great fundraising event and fun time for all!

On Saturday, April 24th, Bledsoe held another Clean It and Green It Adopt a Street. We had over 40 participants who collected over 20 bags of trash! This was followed by a fun party at IKEA. We thank our Environmental Chair, Katrina Watland for making this year’s Adopt a Street clean ups so much fun! Thanks for all who helped! You’ve made a difference!

Also in April, Bledsoe was proud to honor Angie Williams, School Coun-selor, as our Lifetime Member Hon-oree! Angie is an important part of our Bledsoe family having made the differ-ence in so many students’ lives with her wonderful and encouraging manner and her large “Warm Fuzzy” too! Un-der Angie’s direction this year, Bledsoe’s students participated in Ra-chel’s Challenge. In addition, our KC club is the largest in the District. All due to Angie’s efforts! We were thrilled to honor Angie at the April Lifetime

Rounding out the month is our Field Day held on May 20th and May 21st! This fun-filled day includes Water Fun, Wacky Fun, Track and Field and eve-ryone’s favorite Tug O’War!

Finally, as we look towards summer vacation, the Bledsoe PTA welcomes new officers and committee chairs to our 2010-2011 PTA Board. They are Melinda Wheeley-2nd VP Ways and Means; Amy Austin-Historian; Nicole Warhoftig-Council Delegate; Usha Correa & Jacque Alexander-Book Fair; Melissa Ambery-Cultural Arts; Jessica Albrecht & Erica Jeanise-Hospitality; Angela Vaughn & Diana Wampold-Spirit Store; and Kris Brown-Room Parent Coordinator. We thank those returning officers and committee chairs for their countless hours of dedication and volunteering! We are truly blessed! Thank you!

Corbell Elementary PTA Corbell PTA has been busy with many activities to finish out our school year! In recognition of Teacher Apprecia-tion Week, our hospitality chair organ-ized many treats for the teachers. The week began with a catered lunch on their in-service day, “off campus” lunch with other teachers during the week, and a Friday morning breakfast provided by our parent volunteers. Corbell was visited by Critterman and many of our students participated the

Corbell Elementary PTA con’t science program “High Touch, High Tech.” Along with our academic pro-grams, everyone looks forward to the off campus study trips! Seeing the RoughRiders and touring Cowboy sta-dium were a few of the activities that our students have been enjoying as they anticipate the summer break. Corbell is looking forward to our Wacky Olympics Field Day! This year will be lots of fun with Olympic style activities. Our Spring 2010 Book Fair was a tre-mendous success! We recorded net sales of $18,398. Due to our success we were able to put 1,270 books into the hands of teachers, support staff, and the librarian. Additionally, the librarian has a remaining balance of $3,555 that will be used to purchase additional sets of popular books as well as new tape recorders for books on tape. Our “One 4 Books” campaign to benefit the library at Purefoy Ele-mentary was also very successful. We raised $360. The librarian at Purefoy selected books from the fair, and will be placing a label inside each book that reads, “Donated by Students and Families of Corbell Elementary Spring 2010. One of our final events of the school year is the much awaited talent show!

“Corbell’s Got Talent” will showcase on May 20th. Students participate in an audition, rehearsal, and the final show. This annual event was in-vented as a learning tool to build character and self esteem. Corbell PTA has rocked all year and will continue to do so. We will miss the many devoted board members that will be rezoned to the new school. We wish them well. Also we welcome and look forward to working with our newly elected Executive Board.

Elliott Elementary PTA Two years ago, we began laying the foundation for Elliott PTA. Our goal was to recruit board members that shared a desire to make Elliott a bet-ter place for each and every student. In order to make Elliott a better place, this group of people had to ensure that they set ego and personal agen-das aside to put the needs of all Elliott students first. We are proud to say that we successfully achieved the goal. Over the past two years, the Elliott PTA has provided numerous educational and fun programs, books (library and guided reading), equip-ment and rewards to Elliott Elemen-tary which would affect each child. Elliott recently honored our volunteers with an appreciation lunch where approx. 60 volunteers joined in on the food, fun, and some fabulous give-aways! “Thank You” to all our volun-teers who continually give their time to make Elliott a special place.

In April, Elliott sponsored “Lunch with Dad’s”. The children were so excited to have their fathers come eat lunch, we had over 500 Dads to accommo-date. The 2010 school year is coming to a close quickly. Although we are excited for the “End of the Year Cele-bration” in the park, we look forward to increased attendance and getting to know our new families in the Fall.

Pink Elementary PTA Kinder Roundup was held April 12-16. It was fun to see all of the smiling, some crying, kinder little faces. All of the incoming kids were invited in for a tour, however not all will be attending Pink. It is a transition year for a lot of kids from Pink as Purefoy Elementary will be opening up for the new school year. We will miss all of those kids that will be headed out and know it will be a fun year with a new building and new beginnings.

The Annual Spring Song Fest was a huge success for all of the choir kids. Everyone had such a great time at this event. Thank you to all the vol-unteers that helped with the snack booth! The kids are already looking forward to next year!

All of the students and parents are pumped up for the Frisco Schools Spirit Night! Last year Pink won the award for Most Attendance!! We are looking for a repeat! Watch out!

This year our Lifetime Members for Pink are: Jeff Anderson, Lisa Boone and Margaret Hoyt. These individuals have put so much time and effort into making Pink Elementary a great place to be! Congratulations and Thank you for your passion, your dedication and all of your hard work!

It has been an eventful and successful year at Pink Elementary! We couldn’t do any of it without the support of our wonderful Parents and Staff! We all look forward to what the new school year has to bring! Enjoy your sum-mer with the kids!!

Clark Middle PTA

The wheels are now in motion for the new 2010-2011 board for Clark PTA. 75% of the new board has been filled!!! Way to go Clark!!! March was filled with all kinds of events. Spring Book Fair took place just in time for students, parents, and faculty to load up on some spring break reading. During the same week, Clark hosted its second annual Curriculum Night. Students were able to show friends and loved ones just what they do all day long! We also had Spirit Night at Cici’s Pizza. We had another Spirit Night at Chick-fil-a in April. CMS PTA had another busy month in May. It started with Teacher Appre-ciation Week held the week of May 4, 2010 through May 7, 2010. Healthy Lifestyles was May 13, 2010. There was an awesome assem-bly at the end of the school day which was followed up with healthy activities after school. Here are some upcoming PTA Events at Clark:

Griffin Middle PTA Here is what is happening at Griffin Middle School!

April 28th – Griffin PTA hosted TAKS Snacks for the Teachers and Staff. Our wonderful Parents provided pre-packaged snacks and whole fresh fruits. We hope this made the day a little less stressful for our teachers.

May 6th - Teacher Appreciation Lunch for the Teachers and Staff. Carrabba's Italian Grill catered. There was Meat and Vegetable Lasagna, Caesar Salad, Oil and Bread. It was a big hit with all our teachers and staff! Griffin Parents provided cakes and soft drinks for the event. A Griffin notepad and "Griffin Gators" writing pen was presented to teachers and staff as a token of our appreciation. May 21 - PTA donated money for the purchase of Hot Dogs and other food items needed for the 8th Grade Picnic.

May 21 – 8th Grade Career Day - PTA will provide Hospitality Cookie Bags for the Guest Speakers and High School Student Helpers. And that wraps up our school year!
