Sport in Jelgava

Basketball

We can play basketball in Jelgava sport hall and in Zemgales Olympic centre, there are many boys and girls’ teams from the1st grade till the last and older. This sport is very popular here.

If you are 10 to 20 years old you are welcome to Jelgava Hockey (Ice) Hall.There you can skate and play hockey all year round.

Football is one of the most popular sport in Jelgava.

You can train if you are 6 to 18 years old.

You can do it in ZOC or in the Jelgava sport hall

We have our own swimming pool. It is not the most popular sport, but there are real champions, girls and boys with a lot of medals.

There are many students, boys and girls, who are dealing with this sport and a big part of them are really good athlets and champions. We can do it in Jelgava sport hall and in Zemgales Olympic centre.

Rugby

There are three rugby teams in Jelgava. It`s rough sport and it`s for older students.

BMXThis sport comes more and more popular in Latvia and Jelgava. One of reason is Māris Štrombergs , he is professional Latvian BMX racer and he has two gold medals in Olympic games and other more medals in this sport. We have BMX track in Jelgava who is one of the most modern tracks in Eastern Europe.

Horse riding

There are several riding associations in Jelgava neighborhood where you can learn the sport or just go for a ride.

Horse riding is amazing sport.You can spend time in nature

with beautiful and strong creatures - horses. Go for a walk in forest, go swimming in summers or just take a training.

It’s also very dangerous sport and you need to focus every minute.

But this isn’t just a sport, it’s a life-style. You can’t just leave this sport.

H.J. It’s loud competition cause everywhere is music and people are yelling and clapping.

D. Compared with horse jumping this is calm and quiet competition cause there is needing more focus for every detail.

Art, music and

dancing in Jelgava

This is the art school’s building. The school was founded in 1986. The school employs professional artists and educators. There are studying about 200 students aged 10 to 25 years.

Music schoolThis is a traditional music school, where you can go if you are 6 to 18 years old. There you can play: · Piano· Accordion;· String instruments (violin, viola, cello);· Guitar and harp · Wind instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, Sax, trumpet, French horn, euphonium, trombone, tuba) ;· percussion instruments (xylophone, marimba, drum set;· Solo singing in choir class.

Children and Youth Music Club

Rock school

This club is private so you have to pay for the lessons. There you can learn how to play •Electric, classic, acoustic and bass guitar•Drums•Pop, rock vocal and academic vocal.

There is rock school too, and you have to study there for 5 years just like in other music schools, but the difference is that everything is more about rock than about the classic music.

Children and Youth Dance Groups

There are many dance clubs and groups where you can dance hip-hop, folk dances, modern dances, breakdance and many other styles.

There are two buildings where you can do almost everyhing you want to do- dancing, singing, art, games and learning of languages.

Jelgava`s youth are really active and almost everyone are dealing with something after school exept homewoks . We showed you the most popular things we do in our free time.
