    febreaury ,1851)

She got the inspiration in a dream. Later she had

to put a scientific background and got the

inspiration from the scientists: Luigi Galvanni,

(nephew) Giovanni Aldini, Andrew Ure, Konrad

    Gothic literature

Includes opposing ideas , like in frankenstein

    :good/evil, innocence/guilt, etc.

Mary Shelly expands this concept, and we can

see it in this story because there is no hero or

villan but we as readers feel attracted and

repulsed by V. Frankenstein and the monster.

    Writing style

Diction : During this two chapters Mary Shelley

selected words that arent very common, or they

exaggerate things. From the diction we can know

the style and get the imagery the author tries tomake us sense.

Imagery: In this chapters M.S. make us feel the

monster like a horrible thing and the nature like a

    sublime one.

Style: We think is rich and flowery.

    Writing style

We think that its rich because it uses a large

    vocabulary: quoting from the book

df page 139-140Abhorred monster! Fiend that thouart! The tortures of hell are too mild a vengeance

for thy crimes. Wretched devil! You reproach me

with your creation, come on, then, that I may

extinguish the spark which I so negligently

    bestowed.

I spent the following day roaming through the valley. I stoodbeside the sources of the Arveiron, which take their rise in aglacier, that with slow pace is advancing down from thesummit of the hills to barricade the valley. The abrupt sides ofvast mountains were before me; the icy wall of the glacieroverhung me; a few shattered pines were scattered around;and the solemn silence of this glorious presence-chamber ofimperial nature was broken only by the brawling waves or thefall of some vast fragment, the thunder sound of theavalanche or the cracking, reverberated along the mountains,of the accumulated ice.

    Chapter 9-10

When Victor thinks of committing suicide, it

represents one of the characteristics of the gothic

literature. H e thought in suicide while he is in the

river (he feel like in an abyss of guilt), and inchapter 10 he feels freed while he is in the

    mountains (happy state of mind).

The river (low) and the mountains (high) are

    metaphors to express the dualism.
