Found Genre Analysis: Vogue Magazine
The genre I chose to use is something that is very common. Everyone passes them in the
grocery store line or in any Barns and Noble. Some people do not even notice them or pay
attention to them. The genre I chose is magazines. Specifically I did mine on Vogue.
Magazines are meant to catch our eyes and keep us up to date on all the Hollywood drama. Over
the years the covers and content of magazines have changed. I am going to use Vogue as my
example.
The genre is used in Wal-Mart, Ingles, Harris Teeter and any other store really. However
some stores may not carry Vogue because it is a higher end magazine. Vogue is used all over the
world though. It is not just found in America. Vogue has magazines in Japan, the UK, France,
Australia, Brazil and many more. Each one catches the eyes of those people in that county. One
Vogue might be completely different than another one.
Someone sees a Vogue cover that looks interesting to them so they pick it up, flip
through it and occasionally buy it. The interaction it creates between the reader and the pictures
are different for each individual. Some pictures may inspire people. Wither it be the new covers
or old covers Vogue inspires people. The new covers have the main topics outlined on the cover.
A reader may pick that up and be interested in a topic. While many of the old magazines did not
have that. The older ones are simply a picture.
The target group for Vogue are women who take interest in fashion, interviews with
celebrities or other articles. The original Vogue was trying to target the new New York
aristocracy. Vogue has even started making a Teen Vogue. This expands the reader audience
from just women to even teens.
Today Vogue has many different articles in it. They interview celebrities (usually the
one on the cover), fashion articles, makeup articles and even more. The wide range of articles
can appeal to really anyone who is interested in those topics. While the very first Vogue was
published as a ten cent newspaper. The magazine was mostly about fashion, but it did have some
articles about sports for the male readers. This opens up the idea that men would read Vogue
back in the day. While today Vogue does not have sports articles in it, it is primarily for women.
As you can see Vogue has evolved through the many years that it has been on the market.
Dating all the way back to 1892. The covers and content of Vogue have narrowed to reach a
more specific target group. The sports articles for the men has been overturned by makeup and
more fashion for the women. Vogue will continue to grow and expand to more countries as the
