* Americans farmed their lands eating what they produced.

* Any extra was canned, preserved or sold for extra income if possible.

* Clarence Birdseye, while on an expedition in the Artic, discovered a way of quick freezing food that limited the loss of essential juices of food.

* Upon his return he perfected the process of freezing vegetables that could be stored for several months and still taste like it’s fresh counterparts when prepared.

* Thus the introduction of the first frozen foods

History of McDonalds

McDonald's: The All-American Meal In 1955, Ray Kroc opened his first McDonald's franchise in suburban Chicago. His advertising slogan was "The All American Meal:" a $.15 hamburger ($.04 extra for cheese), $.10 fries, and a $.20 shake. This cheap, kid-friendly meal could be served to families at a speedy 25 seconds a meal. Eventually, Kroc bought the entire company and started one of the oldest brand name restaurants in America.

Time zones

Time Zones

*The Earth is currently divided into 24 major time zones so that everyone in the world can be on roughly similar schedules (noon being roughly when the sun is highest in the sky).

*The idea to divide the Earth into time zones was proposed by the Canadian railway planner and engineer Sir Sanford Fleming (1827 - 1915) in the 1870’s.

First Usage

*Time zones were first used on November 18, 1883 by railroads in order to make their schedules less confusing.

*World time zones were determined in 1884, at an international conference in Washington, D.C.

*Each of the 24 world time zones are about 15 degrees wide and differ by one hour.

DayLight Saving Time

*Daylight Saving Time begins for most of the United States at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday of April. Time reverts to standard time at 2 a.m. on the last Sunday of October. In the U.S., each time zone switches at a different time.

*The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time (called "Summer Time" many places in the world) is to make better use of daylight. We change our clocks during the summer months to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening. Countries have different change dates.
