A True Story

The Bumblebee

in The Window

I’m sitting in the living room of my home. It’s a peaceful little place overlooking the

Kootenay Lake in the small mountain community of Nelson, British Columbia, Canada.

It’s just past noon, late in June, and I’m watching a life-or-death struggle happening just

a few feet away.

In the room with me, is a big bumblebee. It’s trapped inside the house, and trying to get

outside. It’s using up every last bit of its energy trying to fly THROUGH the glass of the living

room window.

Over and over again, its wings buzzing intensely, the desperate bumblebee repeatedly

throws itself head first into the glass window.

The bumblebee’s strategy for escape is simple to see – try harder.

Clearly, this strategy is not working!

Its effort to fly THROUGH the window glass is not only ‘not working’, it’s hopeless. It is

absolutely impossible for the bee to try hard enough to succeed at breaking through the glass.

Regardless, it has risked its life on reaching its goal through more effort and more

determination.

On the other side of the room, ten steps away, the back door of the house is wide open.

Ten seconds of flying and the struggling bumblebee could reach the outside.

Page 5: Fluency 2

With only a tiny bit of effort, and a little bit of courage to fly into the ‘unknown’, the

bumblebee could easily free itself and achieve its goal of getting outside.

The breakthrough possibility is there. A simple change in its behavior will bring about its

desired outcome.

It would be so easy!

Why doesn’t the bee try another approach?

How did it go so fixed on the idea that this particular strategy (try harder to fly

THROUGH the glass window) offers the best chance of success?

What sense is there in continuing with this approach when it clearly isn’t working?

No doubt, this approach seems most natural and comfortable to the bumblebee.

Unfortunately, this approach is going to kill it. Trying harder is going to lead to the

bumblebee’s death.

*

Much like the hopeless bumblebee, sometimes we all get stuck in ‘try harder

approaches’ that don’t seem to work.

This seems to be especially true when it comes to improving our English.

But, trying harder to raise you English communication skills and confidence levels isn’t

necessarily the best approach to achieving professional success in the English language.

Sometimes, in fact, this ‘try harder strategy’ is a big part of the problem.

If you put your hopes for a breakthrough in your English on trying harder than ever, you

may very well kill your chances for English success.

The

Promise

Are you ready for this?

[You don’t have to be satisfied with improving your English step-by-step]

Page 9: Fluency 2

Right now, in this moment, you are capable of improving your English dramatically.

You can raise your communication skills to higher levels, and become more confident in English

than you ever have been.

You can achieve fluency².

You don’t have to settle for the English performance you have now. You CAN improve…

immensely!

If you’re ready, life is prepared to give you an English breakthrough experience.

You can jump to a higher level of English achievement…speak the English of your dreams…enjoy

a completely different height of professional success in the English language.

Also, you don’t have to be happy with improving your English step-by-step. Just as your level of

English performance can improve dramatically, so can the speed of your improvement. Furthermore,

achieving fluency² requires far less effort than you have given to learning English in the past.

You haven’t been reaching your full potential in English. So far, you haven’t even come close!

No matter how you wish to measure your English performance, regardless of how you define

your level of fluency, you have not even come close to what you can accomplish personally and

professionally in the English language.

But maybe the time has come to change all that.

Maybe you’re ready to make a “Quantum English Leap”.

Quantum

Leaps

[To put it simply, as human beings we are going to have to reexamine

our original ideas about how the universe works and how WE fit into it.]

Page 11: Fluency 2

Quantum leap is a word taken from the vocabulary of the new physics – quantum physics.

Quantum physics is the science that has helped to give us televisions, computers, I-phones,

space communication and nuclear energy.

Quantum physics has been described as the most powerful science that humans have ever

created. And it requires us to rethink the ideas we have about time and space, and how human

consciousness works.

Quantum physics also has amazing things to say about you, your potential, and the power of

your mind. To put it simply, as human beings we are going to have to reexamine our original ideas

about how the universe works and how WE fit into it.

Margaret J. Wheatley, in her award-winning book titled Leadership And The New Science,

described a quantum leap as:

“…when an electron jumps from one orbit to another without passing through intermediate

stages. It’s in one place and then suddenly in another.”

Physicists who study quantum science have noticed that electrons make these ‘jumps’ from one

level to a level several stages higher…without any real effort, and without going step-by-step from the

starting point to the end point.

What’s going on here? How does this happen?

And is it possible for you as an individual to make a similar large and effortless ‘jump’ in your

English communication skills and confidence levels?

Is it possible for you to make a Quantum English Leap?

Page 12: Fluency 2

Fluency²

Most English learners believe that improvement

comes one step at a time.

The popular belief is that to improve your English, you must move step-by-step from your

present level of ability and achievement to the next level. Then, from that level, you can begin working

toward graduating to the next higher level. This is called “gradual progress”.

[Fluency² means you experience an ‘explosive jump’ in your English communication

skills and confidence that take you to levels far beyond the logical next step.]

Page 13: Fluency 2

The belief that you can only improve your English step-by-step is limiting. Yet, this is the belief

of most English learners. They go to work, day after day, and work hard to make small improvements in

their English performance.

That’s pretty normal. It’s the pathway of “gradual progress”.

The improvement in YOUR communication skills and confidence levels, however, does not have

to happen this way!

Improving your English step-by-step – from where you are now to a little bit better – usually

feels easier, more natural, and even safer. But, you can jump from your present level of English

achievement to one that is several stages higher – directly!

You can make a Quantum English Leap.

You can achieve fluency².

Instead of accepting your current English speaking skills and comfort levels, or being happy with

step-by-step improvement, you go for a breakthrough.

Fluency² means you experience an ‘explosive jump’ in your English communication and

confidence that takes you to levels far beyond the logical next step. It’s a formula for amazing

improvements in your English performance.

It means you make “exponential improvement” rather than “gradual progress”. You can

compare it to multiplying (12x12=144) instead of adding (12+12=24) – it means massive improvement in

the results you get in the English language.

That’s exciting! But it gets even better.

Remember, a Quantum English Leap can happen without any real effort. These are high-speed

moves that carry you to dramatically higher levels of English performance without a lot of time or

struggle.

Quantum English Leaps don’t seem to make sense, do they?

The idea of jumping to a higher level of English and skipping several steps on the way seems

unbelievable, doesn’t it?

However, Quantum English Leaps are not complex or difficult to make. They are usually quite

simple, take little energy and do not require much of your time.

Page 14: Fluency 2

Fluency², the Quantum English Leap strategy, can deliver those special dreams you have for your

personal and professional success in the English language…the ones you feel should be yours right now.

But a breakthrough demands a big change from some of your current habits.

The following chapters explain the strategy involved.
