Fivalco® General Information

Fivalco cast Iron and Ductile Iron Valves are manufactured using advanced equipment in a world class facility using the finest materials available. Designed by a first class team of dedicated valve specialists with many years experience in the industry. Manufacturing facilities are certified to ISO 9001-2000 and Equipment includes CNC machines and a full test laboratory with a spectrometer.Other facility approvals – PED (DNV), AGA (Aus.)

Primary Materials

4 Cast IronCast Iron Valves are manufactured from materials fully conforming to ASTM A126 Class B / BS EN 1561 EN-JL1040 / DIN GG25.

4 Ductile IronDuctile Iron Valves are manufactured from Ductile Iron conforming to ASTM A536 Gr. 65-45-12 / BS EN 1563 EN-JS1050 / DIN GGG40/50 for greater strength and improved resistance to internal pressures.

4 Seats and Seat Rings Manufactured from bronze fully conforming to ASTM B62 C83600 / BS EN1982 CC491K, brass fully conforming to ASTM B16 C36000 / EN CuZn39Pb3.

Installation and Operation

4 Flanges conform fully to ANSI B16.1 Class125 / ANSI B16.2 Class250 or EN1092-2 PN10/ PN16/PN25, Mechanical joint ends conform to AWWA C111/ANSI A21.11

Other flange types are available for specific market requirements. Grooved end valves are available with Metric and ANSI pipe grooved ends4 Butterfly valves are designed for throttling service and are available in Wafer, Lug, Flanged and Grooved end

configurations.4 Gate valves are recommended for infrequent service and are primarily designed as shut off valves. Not

recommended for throttling service.4 Globe valves may be used for throttling services.4 Check valves are used to prevent backflow of fluids and contamination of piping systems.4 Strainers are available to ANSI and European standards.

Gear Actuator with Tamper Switch

Design and Installation

w Design requirementsFivalco butterfly valve should be connected to the piping system with approved couplings or flanges. Flow may be from either direction, and the valves may be positioned in any direction.Fivalco butterfly valves have been designed with a slow close hand-wheel operator, which effectively minimizes water hammer. These valves feature minimum flow restriction and pressure loss when in the fully open position.

w InstallationWhen the valves are received from the manufacturer they should be handled carefully to avoid breakage and damage to the seating area. Before installation of the valves, clean piping, flange and coupling. When the valves close hard, it is usually due to debris lodged in the seating area. Often this may be corrected by backing off the hand-wheel and closing again.The valve should never be forced to seat by applying a wrench to the handwheel as this may distort the valve components or score the sealing surface. Care must be taken to align wafer valves cor-rectly so that the disc operation to the fully open position will not be obstructed. The use of excessive force to open or close the valve violates all warranties whether express or implied.The inlet and outlet pipe adjacent to the valve should be properly supported to prevent excessive stress on the valve body. The valve should not be used to force a pipeline into position as this may result in distortion of the valve body.

w Care and MaintenanceFivalco butterfly valves require no regular maintenance, however, it is advisable to inspect and verify proper operation of the unit annually or in accordance with the requirements of the authority having jurisdiction.The inspection should include a visual check for leakage at the valve pipe connection and body to operator connection. Inspection and main-tenance should be performed by a qualified inspection service.

w Switch InstallationFivalco butterfly valves are provided with internal supervisor position switches. The tamper switch operates by a cam con-nected to the valve stem. The switch will change position and close with two (2) full turns of the handwheel from the fully open position.

Installation1 Piping systems should be thoroughly cleaned and free from ingress of foreign materials.2 Visually inspect the valve seating and ports for cleanliness immediately prior to installation.3 All valves should be independently supported against movement and stress from the connected piping

system.4 Check that the valve pressure rating is compatible with service conditions5 Operate the valve at least once from the open to closed position.6 Ensure that mating Flanges are compatible with intended service conditions.7 Install valves with the disc in the almost closed position. Good working practice dictates that butterfly

valves installed in the horizontal position have the stems in the vertical position.8 Interference between the butterfly valve disc and the mating pipes should be avoided under all circum-

stances. Before tightening flange bolts, carefully open the valve to the open position and check for any disc interference.

9 Ensure that the valve is centrally located between the flanges, is independently supported and is not dependent for any support from the connecting pipework.

Wafer valves should be installed by installing bolts through the lugs and tightening carefully, ensuring even contact between the flange face and Elastomer. Forcing the wafer valves into a tight space will cause damage to the Elastomer and should be avoided.

10 Tighten the bolts using the crossover method to distribute the loads evenly over the valves. Do not overtighten the bolts.

11 On dead end service a mating downstream blank flange should be installed to ensure safety.12 Lug type valves should be used for dead and service.13 Verify and adjust gear operator stops after installation.

Operation is via a lever handle with an indicator disc or a gear operator with an indicator.

OperationPeriodic inspection and operation of the valves is recommended to prevent buildup of foreign materials inside the valves and piping system.

Cast Iron Gate Globe and Check Valves

Installation1 Piping systems and valves should be thoroughly cleaned and free from ingress of foreign materials.2 Visually inspect the valve seating and ports for cleanliness immediately prior to installation.3 All valves should be independently supported against movement and stress from the connected piping system.4 Ensure that the valve pressure rating is compatible with service conditions5 Operate the valve at least once from the open to closed position.6 Verify that packing nuts are tight before pressurizing the system7 Check valves must be oriented properly for flow and gravity and must be installed sufficiently distant from

pumps or other devices producing turbulence.8 Gate valves are not suitable for throttling applications.9 Gate valves should be installed in the vertical position on horizontal pipework and in the horizontal position on

vertical pipework.

OperationGate and globe valves are manually operated multi-turn valves and are opened by a handwheel or other operat-ing device, generally in a clockwise direction and then closed counterclockwise. Gate valves with counterclockwise opening should be clearly identified to ensure safe operation Check valves operate automatically.

Inspection and Maintenance1 Valves should be inspected periodically and should be cycled to prevent buildup of foreign materials in the pip-

ing system and valve body. 2 In the event of a packing leak adjust the packing nuts to increase pressure on the stem packing. Packing nuts

should be tightening evenly approximately a quarter turn in a clockwise direction. 3 Always shut down the system before repacking the valve. Valves are designed with backseats for repacking

under pressure but this is not recommended.

Silent Check ValvesDesigned to automatically prevent reverse flow into the piping system. Installation procedures are as above with the arrow in the direction of flow.

Inspection and removal proceduresClose the isolating valve on the discharge side. Bleed system pressure from the discharge flange Do not loosen the flange bolts on the inlet sideuntil system pressure is relieved as damage may occur to the valve Remove Valve from the line and inspect internal parts for wear and tear. Do not attempt to inspect by removing the inlet side pipe as this will result indamage to the valve. For spare parts consult “MATERIALS” in the Fivalco catalogue.

Replacements shall be shipped free of charge to the owners provided that the valve was installed in accordance with Fivalco Inc. instructions and in accordance with the local authority having jurisdiction.

To the Extent permitted by law this warranty specifically excludes incidental and consequential damages of every type and description resulting from any claimed defect in material or workmanship, including, but not limited to, personal injuries and property damages. To the extent permitted by law, implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for particular purposes are limited in duration.

Some states or countries do not allow exclusion or limitation of incidental damages so these limitations may not apply to you.

This warranty provides the owner with specific legal rights and owner may have other rights, which vary from state to state and country to country.
