Hello Everyone!

I guess I just want to start by saying that 2020 was a very depressing year. We had to cancel a well-planned NationalSpringShow,thentheARBA Conventionwascanceled,andmany, manylocalandStateSpecialtyshows were canceled as well. On top of all that,welostadearfriendofthethriantaclub;welostTimBranham.Timdidalotforourclub,andhewillbemissedverymuch.Let’shopethat2021isabetteryear for everyone!

Asyouknow,wehaveanewWebmaster.PleasesendanypictureorarticlethatyouthinkmightbeworthMicheleincludingonourWebsite.WithwinteruponusIknowthatsomeofusaremakingmajorbreedingdecisionsbecauseofallthecanceledshows.Myrecommendationistokeepyourschedule;raisewhatyoucan,becausewhenthe“greenlight”comestoshowagain,youwillwishthatyouhadseveralrabbitstopickfrom.

In memory of Tim

I miss my friend, Tim. He had a lot to do with me getting my judge’s license; he worked with me constantly to improve my work. He was one of my two main mentors, the other being Glen Carr. Tim was a great family man, a religious man, a musician, and a great judge. And, to me, he was a great friend. He and I would call each other often just to check in, share rabbit “gossip” and talk about rabbits in general. Tim and I had judged alongside each other at a local show the week before he left us. Tim was in great spirits at the show, laughing most of the evening. Tim was always the first person that I would look for when I arrived at a show that we were judging together. We would try to work side by side to keep one another company, so to speak. I am going to miss his wife, Jacquie. I hope that she will still come to some shows so that we can stay in touch. She was a great companion for Tim. Tim will remain in my memories; keep him in your memories as well.

Ithasbeenseveralmonthssince mylastcommunicationwithyou.It hasbeenaverycrazyfewmonths forme,asIknowithasbeenformany ofyou.Showsecretariesacrossthe USAhavecontactedmeonaregular basistocancelorpostponetheSpring andearlysummershows;itgottobe quitethechallengetokeepup!Thankfully,formuchoftheUSA,showsbegantotakeplaceagainthisFall.I,forone,amhappytobebackintheshowroom. Ihavebeensurprisedallspringandsummerathowmanypeoplehavereachedouttometolocatethriantas.Manymentionedthatthey had been researching rabbits online and “discovered” the thrianta.So,onegoodthingthathascomeoutofthislockupisanincreasedinterestinourredbeauties!Thisisalsoreflectedinthenumberofnewmemberswhocontinuedtojointhroughoutthespringandsummermonths.Youcanfindalistofthenewmemberselsewhereinthisnewsletter.Iwelcomeallofyou!WhileIamonthetopicofmembership,youwillalsofindalistofexpiredandsoontoexpirememberships.Iappreciatethoseofyouwhokeptupwithyourmembershiprenewalsthisyear.Ifyourmembershiphasalreadyexpired,pleasemakearrangementstogetitrenewedasquicklyaspossible.

Hello!

GreetingsfromIndiana.GracieandIare definitelymissingshowingandhavingtimeto visitwithourrabbitfamily.Wehaveattended onlyafewshowsthisfallandrealizehowmuch wegainfromsharedexperiences.Manypeople finditunusualforustoshowandtravelwithourrabbits,butwehavecometoappreciatethetimewehavetogether.Iamsadthatwehavenotbeenabletotravelbutlookforwardtoresumingduring2021.

OneofthethingsIamlearningisthatourrabbitscanlookgreatinourbarns,butuntilwehavetheopportunitiestocomparethemwithothersandgetgoodfeedback,wereallydonothaveanobjectivewayofevaluatingthem.WhileIamstayinghomemore,Iamalsospendingmoretimewiththerabbits.ThetimeIcanspendwiththemisagreatstressrelieverandawaytofindpeaceandcontentment.GracieandIareusingthistimeforbarnandherdimprovement.Itisnicetohavesomethingpositivetofocusonandtohavepromiseofpotentialshowprospects.

IfindThriantastobeourmostchallengingbreed(Spots,Palominos,&BlueHolicers).Whilewehaveaccesstoawesomebreeders,wearechallengedtoconsistentlygetthequalitiesweareseekingandtokeepthemingoodcoatcondition.Wealsohaverecentlyexperiencedafewjudgesthatwanttojudgethemby pushing their heads to the table and then balling up their hindquarterssotightlyIamsurprisedtheycooperate.However,thesechallengesonlyhelpustokeepmovingforwardtohavebetterrabbitsandjudgesthatarefamiliarwithThriantas.

WeareverysadaboutthepassingofTimBranham.OurjourneywithThriantasstartedatanEnglishSpotNationalSpecialtyin2015whenGraciewas10yearsold.WehadoneEnglishSpotanditwasourfirstspecialtyshow.SheproudlytookheroneEnglishSpottoshow.Meanwhile,TinaReifarrivesinastationwagonwithSpotsandabunchofredrabbits.GracieimmediatelyfellinloveandwecamehomewithabuckfromTinaandadoefromTimandJacquie.

WearegratefulforthesupportandmentoringfromtheThriantafamily.Weholdthesefriendshipsinhighregard.Itisoneofthereasons we have stayed with this breed as we enjoy the camaraderieasmuchaswedotherabbits.

I have personally been encouraged and strengthenedduringthepasttwochallengingyearsofmylifebytheprayersofbothTimandJacquie.Timwillbemissedatsomanylevels.Jacquiewillbemissedatfutureshows,forwhereTimjudged,Jacquiewashisfaithfulwriter.Jacquie,theATRBAsharesinyourpain.Timwasatreasure.

OnequickmemoryIwillshareisfromtheFortWorth,TX2014ARBAConvention.TimwasthejudgeforbothOpenandYouththatyear.TheOPENshowtookplacethatmorning,andthenwewaitedlateintotheafternoonbeforetheYOUTHshowwascalledtostart.Timlovedworkingwiththeyouth,andtheylovedhavinghimjudge.OneofourtopyouthatthattimewasnotabletoattendConventioninpersonbuthadsentrabbitsforjudging.Itwassuggestedbytheotheryouthinattendancethatwhenitwastimetojudgetoabsentmember’srabbitsTimFacetimehersothatshecouldhearhiscomments.ThathadneverbeendonebeforeandTimwasexcitedtobepartofutilizingwhatwasthen,fairlynewtechnology.EveryonehadagreattimebeingpartofTimmaking‘history’.

Iwishallofyouahappyandhealthynewyear!Hopefully,wewillseeoneanotheragainatSpringNationals.Inthemeantime,pleaseletmeknowifyouneedanything.Iamheretohelp.

HelloThriantafriends,

This year as been an incredibly hard one for so manyofus.Oneofthesetryingcircumstances hithomeformanyofuswithinourThrianta family.Anamazingjudgeandpriorpresident oftheATRBA,TimBranham,haspassedaway. Itwasheartbreakingtoreceivethenews.He wassuchasweetheartedman.IwillalwaysrememberhowexcitedhewouldgetwheneverI’dtextorcallhimtohirehimforshowsuphereinNewEngland.Hewoulddriveupwith his wife and run to the nearest restaurant for fresh lobster dinnerwithher,somethinghesaidhealwayslookedforwardtowhenbeingaskedtojudgehere.Healwayshadsuchabright,bubblypersonalityandhimandhiswifemadeastellarteamatthejudgingtable.Shewouldwriteforhimateveryshowandtheywouldalwayshavefunnycommentsbackandforthtooneanother.Ilovedhavinghimjudgemyrabbits;hewouldalwaysbrightenmydaywhenhedid.ThelastphysicalshowIhadthehonorofshowingunderhimwasabout2yearsago.HealsojudgedmyrabbitsinthemarcsvirtualconventionandIwashonoredtobeabletoshowunderhimonelasttime,evenifitwasn’tinperson.Hewaslovedbysomany.Manyhealingthoughtstohisfamilyandtoeveryonewhohadthehonorofknowinghim.Hewillbesorelymissed??R.I.P.Tim.

Ihopeeveryoneisstayingsafeinthesetryingtimes.Ihavedecided not to show this year and will hopefully see everyone nextyearwhenitissafer.Staywellandpositiveeveryone.Wehaveandwillcontinuetogetthroughthesedifficultdays.

Iamsittinghereinahousethatisstartingto warmupasNortheastOhiogothitwitha winterstormthatistheworstthatIhaveseen inalongtime.Iwokeuptoacoldanddark housethismorningandjustrecentlythepower camebackon.Iamlookingoutatmydarkback yardandthereisatleastafootofsnow.Still waitingformydrivewaytogetplowedsoIamstayingindoors.Itaughtclasstodayviazoomusingmycellphonehotspot,thetimeswelivein.

CongratulationstoMichelleMforwinningBOSwithajuniordoeintherecentNationalVirtualshow.Michellehadthebestseniorandjuniordoes.AbbyandIhadthebestseniorandjuniorbuckandhadBOBwiththeseniorbuck.Ireallylikethisbuckandthejuniorbuckisoutofhim.Sofar,wehaveonlyshowedinone“real”showonNovember8thandofcourse,hewasmolting.Hopefullywewillhavemoreinpersonshowsin2021.

ItisverysadtoloseanyonethatweknowtoCovid-19oranyotherillnessforthatmatter.ThedeathofTimBranhamisverysad.Abby(mydaughterforthoseofyouwhodon’tknowher)andIhavetalkedalotaboutourmemoriesofTimandJackie;itwasalwaysthetwoofthethemtogetherwhichshowedthattheytrulylovedeachother.WefirstmetTimandJackieattheOhioStateFairmany,manyyearsago,whereAbbyshowedeveryyearasayouth.Wehavemanyfondmemoriesofboththem,theyalwayslettheOhioStateFairusetheirrabbitsforbreedID;AbbyjokedthattheycouldhavetheirownbreedIDsincetheyhadabunchofdifferentbreedsincludingsomemorerareonesanditwasalwaysinterestingtolookatwhattheybrought.WhenThrianta’sbecameabreed,AbbyreallywantedthemsowegotatrioandtookthemtotheOhioStatefair,whereTim&JackiealsohadThrianta’stoshow.Asayouthbreeder,AbbywenttoTimforadvice;hehelpedlookathercurrentrabbitsandhelpedherselectaseniorbuckthatshouldimproveherstock.EventhoughAbbyagedoutof4-HwestillwenttostatefairandspenttimewithTimandJackieeveryAugustformanyyears.DuringtheopenshowTimwouldbebusyrunningtheshowandJackie,AbbyandIwouldbeshowingtheThrianta’s;itwasalwaysagreattime.WhentheystoppeddoingStateFairtheysaiditgavethemtimetospendtogetheronvacationandjustrelax.

IhelpruntheGeaugaCountyFaireveryyearandTimwasoneofmyjudgesseveraltimesandhewasgreatatit!Jackiewouldcometooandwritewhilehejudged.Alongwiththeshowjudging,hejudgedshowmanshipandwasverygoodwiththechildren.Hewilltrulybemissed.RestinpeaceTim.

Hopefully,willseemanyofatATRBANationalShowinthespringof2021inOhio.Moretocomeonthatlater.

What a year 2020 has been - it will be nice to seeitintherearviewmirror.Notmuchto reportfromhere,Minnesotaisapretty“locked down”state.Theydidmanagetogetoneshow inoverLaborDay,butIwasn’tabletoattend. Itseemskindofironicthatbothpeopleandrabbits have such horrible viruses going around right now. Not muchelsetoreportfromhere.Keepyourrabbitrybio-securityupandkeepyourselfsafetoo.Here’shopingtoabetter2021.

Since there have not been many shows, itstillhasnotreallysunkinthat TimBranhamisgone.Ifirstreallygot toknowTimandJacquieBranham afterIgotThriantasin2015.WhileI hadshowedunderTimasajudge manytimesbeforethatandhad conversationswithhimandJacquie atthetable,Icannotremembermuchaboutthem.Inlate2014,IboughtasmallThriantaherdof6rabbitsfromabreederinTNwhowassellingout.IwasexcitedtohavemoreThriantasinthebarnandthetrioofBranhamThriantas(Branham’s300,Branham’s301,Branham’s303),whichwereapartofthatgroup,weresoontobecomethebackboneofmyherd.WhenIattendedthe2015ATRBANationals,IshowedtheSrBuckfromTimandalmostalltheJrsIshowedweretheoffspringfromthatbuck.Ihadmultipletop10finishesthatyearatNationals.ThenexttimeIsawTimBranhamatashow,ImentionedIhadBranham’s300(SrBuck)inmybarn,TimrememberedhimandIrespectedTimasajudge.Hewasthefirstandonlyjudgetoevergiveoneofmyrabbits,anEnglishSpot,an“UnworthyofanAward”placement.Hewasagreatjudgeandmentorandmadesurehespokethetruthanddidnot“sugarcoat”hisopinionofarabbit.JacquiealmostalwaystravelledwithhimtoshowsandwroteforhimandIwillmissseeingheratshowstoo,justasmuchasIwillmissTim.JacquiewasagreatmentortonewwritersbehindthetableandIalwaysenjoyedspendingtimewiththetwoofthematshows.
