University schools Administratively, the teacher training schools are part of the faculties of education. In all other respects, the schools enjoy great independence.

“We don’t need inspections or ranking lists

– in teachers we trust!”

There are 8000 students in the teacher training schools, and every year around 3000 student teachers complete their teaching practice at these institutions.

Theory and practice The close relationship between theory and practice forms the basis of the entire concept of teacher education, so educational and didactic theory are applied in practice.

The functional connection between the teacher training schools, departments of teacher education and the other university departments allows teacher students to start practically applying theoretical knowledge from the early stages of their studies.

Experiments and research The teaching experiments and educational research connected to teaching practice aim to create an innovative and analytical attitude among prospective teachers.

In addition to teaching practice, student teachers are expected to participate in all everyday activities of schools, including curriculum planning, student evaluation, student counselling and welfare, etc.

International activities Many teacher training schools cooperate with various partners in international, multicultural and intercultural projects.

Some teacher training schools offer the International Baccalaureate Programme at upper secondary school-level.

Experimental projects involving the development of information technology and digital teaching methods pave the way for new kinds of cooperation, especially those in an international context.
