H First of all, read the passage carefullyand closely and understand the themeof it.

H Then read the options given for eachquestion. It helps you understand yourtask better.

H Now read each sentence and heremore often the words before the blankand the words after the blank GIVEAWAY a clue about the suitable word tobe used.

H When no clue is available in the sen-tence, you can try quickly all theoptions given for each blank.

H After filling in all the blanks, give a quickfinal reading of the entire passage andmake last minute changes if any.

H The passages given are normally shortin length. But in the Main exam theywould often be long and time consuming

H Look at the 'Tenses' used in the givenpassage and this helps you in choosingsuitable words from the options.

11. The preposition 'On' is always usedafter the word, 'Feasted' [We feast onsomething but we feast [eat] with peo-ple.] The verb 'Live' also takes thepreposition 'On' but here it is used inthe V1-form, and doesn't fit into thepassage which is in the Past Tense.

13. When a sentence begins with theword, 'Never', the verb comes beforethe subject, hence 'Have I' .... [It iscalled, 'Inversion' in grammar. Look upfor other words with follow this rule.]

14. The Adverb 'Fast' always takes theword 'asleep'. We say 'fast asleep orgo to sleep'.

16. Except the verb, 'Entered', all otheroptions given there take some preposi-tion after them. The verb, 'Entered'does not take the preposition 'Into'when used in the sense of 'going'somewhere. Hence no preposition isused before the word, 'Bedroom'.
