SBI POs / Clerks English M. Somasekhara Prasad Subject Expert Writer TIPS TO BE KEPT IN MIND H First of all, read the passage carefully and closely and understand the theme of it. H Then read the options given for each question. It helps you understand your task better. H Now read each sentence and here more often the words before the blank and the words after the blank GIVE AWAY a clue about the suitable word to be used. H When no clue is available in the sen- tence, you can try quickly all the options given for each blank. H After filling in all the blanks, give a quick final reading of the entire passage and make last minute changes if any. H The passages given are normally short in length. But in the Main exam they would often be long and time consuming H Look at the 'Tenses' used in the given passage and this helps you in choosing suitable words from the options. 11. The preposition 'On' is always used after the word, 'Feasted' [We feast on something but we feast [eat] with peo- ple.] The verb 'Live' also takes the preposition 'On' but here it is used in the V1-form, and doesn't fit into the passage which is in the Past Tense. 13. When a sentence begins with the word, 'Never', the verb comes before the subject, hence 'Have I' .... [It is called, 'Inversion' in grammar. Look up for other words with follow this rule.] 14. The Adverb 'Fast' always takes the word 'asleep'. We say 'fast asleep or go to sleep'. 16. Except the verb, 'Entered', all other options given there take some preposi- tion after them. The verb, 'Entered' does not take the preposition 'Into' when used in the sense of 'going' somewhere. Hence no preposition is used before the word, 'Bedroom'.
