He replied, "Peace to you, do not be afraid. Your God and the God of your father has put treasure in your sacks for you. I received your money." Then he brought Simeon out to them.

Genesis 43:23

Peace and money appear together in the Bible once

Page 5: Financial Peace

When we attach peace to money we give the wrong impression.

Namely, that if we have enough money, we will have peace.

There are benefits to money but money does not provide peace.

We might as well say, “Health Peace” or some equivalent phrase.

“Financial Peace” Maybe Misleading

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you

(Philippians 4:7-9).

Ten Bible Don'ts Of Money

Page 9: Financial Peace

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity (Ecclesiastes 5:10).

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows (1 Timothy 6:10).

Don’t Love It

Page 10: Financial Peace

And he told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' And he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.

And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?

(Luke 12:16-20)

Don’t Lose Your Soul For It

Page 11: Financial Peace

Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven (Proverbs 23:4-5).

Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not highminded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to communicate; laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on the life which is life indeed (1 Timothy 6:17-19).

Don’t Trust In It

Page 12: Financial Peace

Better to be lowly and have a servant than to play the great man and lack bread

(Proverbs 12:9).

One pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth (Proverbs 13:7).

Don’t Be Poor Trying To Impress People

Page 13: Financial Peace

For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it (Ecclesiastes 7:12).

Bread is made for laughter, and wine gladdens life, and money answers everything (Ecclesiastes 10:19).

Don’t Be So Pious You Don’t Need It

Page 14: Financial Peace

A wife judging her husbands worth based on the size of his wallet, is equal to a husband judging his wife’s worth based on the size of her waist.

And he said to them, "Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions“ (Luke 12:15).

Don’t Judge Someone’s Worth By How Much They Have

Page 15: Financial Peace

One who is wise is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is reckless and careless. (Proverbs 14:16).

Don’t Be Careless

Page 16: Financial Peace

Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life

(Proverbs 13:11-12).

Don’t Try To “Get Rich Quick”

Page 17: Financial Peace

What is that to thee. . .?

We don’t compare ourselves by ourselves . . .

Don’t compare your spouse. Don’t compare your money. Don’t compare your house.

Your marriage is yours!

Don’t Compare Yourself To Others

Page 18: Financial Peace

Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death (Pro 10:2).

A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight (Pro 11:1).

The wicked earns deceptive wages, but one who sows righteousness gets a sure reward.

(Pro 11:18).

Don’t Do Evil To Get It

Ten Bible Do’s About Money

Page 20: Financial Peace

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight (Proverbs 9:9-10).

The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender (Proverbs 22:7).

Do Learn About It

Page 21: Financial Peace

And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

(Luke 16:8-11).

Do Make Friends With It

Page 22: Financial Peace

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

As it is written, "He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever."

(2 Corinthians 9:6-9).

Do Give To God

Page 23: Financial Peace

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous

(Proverbs 13:22).

Do Plan for The Future

Page 24: Financial Peace

Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content (1 Timothy 6:6-8).

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me (Philippians 4:11-13).

Do Learn Contentment

Page 25: Financial Peace

A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. He who gathers in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame

(Prov 10:4-5).

Do Work For It

Page 26: Financial Peace

But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever (1 Timothy 5:8).

Providing for one’s family is a priority. We have to earn money to provide.

Do Make It A Priority

Page 27: Financial Peace

He answered, "Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate."

(Matthew 19:4-6)

Do Work Together – No “I” “We”

Page 28: Financial Peace

An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain (Prov 31:10-11).

She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard (Prov 31:16).

But keep both parties aware of what’s going on.

Do Allow The Most Skilled To Do The Job

Page 29: Financial Peace

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment (Heb 9:27).

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12).

$1,000 to start an Emergency Fund An emergency fund is for those unexpected

events in life that you can’t plan for: the loss of a job, an unexpected pregnancy, a faulty car transmission, and the list goes on and on. It’s not a matter of if these events will happen; it’s simply a matter of when they will happen.

Baby Step 1

Page 42: Financial Peace

Pay off all debt using the Debt Snowball List your debts, excluding the house, in

order. The smallest balance should be your number one priority. Don’t worry about interest rates unless two debts have similar payoffs. If that’s the case, then list the higher interest rate debt first.

Baby Step 2

Page 43: Financial Peace

3 to 6 months of expenses in savings Once you complete the first two baby

steps, you will have built serious momentum. But don’t start throwing all your “extra” money into investments quite yet. It’s time to build your full emergency fund.

Baby Step 3

Page 44: Financial Peace

Invest 15% of household income into Roth IRAs and pre-tax retirement

When you reach this step, you’ll have no

payments—except the house—and a fully funded emergency fund. Now it’s time to get serious about building wealth.

Baby Step 4

Page 45: Financial Peace

College funding for children By this point, you should have already started Baby Step 4—investing 15% of your income—before saving for college. Whether you are saving for you or your child to go to college, you need to start now.

Baby Step 5

Page 46: Financial Peace

Pay off home early Now it’s time to begin chunking all of

your extra money toward the mortgage. You are getting closer to realizing the dream of a life with no house payments.

Baby Step 6

Page 47: Financial Peace

Build wealth and give! It’s time to build wealth and give like never before. Leave an inheritance for future generations, and bless others now with your excess. It's really the only way to live!

Baby Step 7

Page 48: Financial Peace

“You can’t shake hands with a clenched fist.”

Vow to never hold your money so tightly that you never give any away. Hoarding money is not the way to wealth. Save for yourself, save for your family’s future, and be gracious enough to bless others. You can do all three at the same time.

Things To Remember

Page 52: Financial Peace

Money is neutral – it is neither good nor bad.

Money is a tool.

We must learn to use all tools properly.

We develop bad habits that we can change.

Money Is Amoral

Our Vows

The Problems Are Deeper

Lack of self control.

Using money to fill other voids.

Having money often masks problems, not having it often reveals them.

Money Is Usually The Symptom

Page 55: Financial Peace

Better to be lowly and have a servant than to play the great man and lack bread (Pro 12:9).

Better is a little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble with it. Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than a fattened ox and hatred with it (Pro 15:16-17) .

There Are Things Better Than Money

Page 56: Financial Peace

Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice (Pro 16:8).

Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife (Pro 17:1).

There Are Things Better Than Money

Page 57: Financial Peace

What is desired in a man is steadfast love, and a poor man is better than a liar (Pro 19:22). Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways (Pro 28:6).

The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it (Pro 10:22).
