QURAN

O people! Muhammad has no sons among ye men, but verily, he

is the Apostle of God and the last in the line of Prophets. And

God is Aware of everything.

Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but (he is) the

Messenger of Allah, and the Seal of the Prophets: and Allah has

full knowledge of all things. (The Holy Quran, Al-Ahzab 33:40

HADITH TRANSLATED

My position in relation to the prophets who came before can be explained by the following example: A man erected building and adorned this edifice with great beauty, but he

an empty niche, in the corner where just one brick was missing. People looked around the building and marveled

its beauty, but wondered why a brick was missing from that niche? I am like unto that one missing brick and I am the

the line of the Prophets.(Bukhari, Muslim,Tirmidhi, Musnad Ahmad, Tirmizi, Babu

Khatimin-Nabiyyin, Musnad Abu Dawud Tayalisi)

SIX FAVORS SPECIFICALLY BESTOWED UPON THE PROPHET MOHAMMAD

• God has bestowed upon me six favors which the former Prophets did not enjoy:

• I have been endowed with the gift of pithy and perfect speech.

• I was granted victory owing to my awe.

• The spoils of war were made lawful unto me.

• The whole earth has been made the place of worship for me and it has become the means of purification for me also. In other words, in my religion, offering of prayers is not confined to certain specified places of worship. Prayers can be offered at any place over the earth. And in case water is not available, it is lawful for my people to perform ablutions with earth (Tayammum) and to cleanse themselves with the soil, if water for bathing is scarce.

• I have been sent by Allah to carry His Divine message to the whole world.

• And the line of prophets has come to its final end in me.(Muslim, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

Page 7: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

I AM THE LAST PROPHET

• I am Muhammad, I am Ahmad, I am the effacer and

infidelity shall be erased through me; I am the

assembler. People shall be assembled on Doomsday

after my time. And I am the last in the sense that no

prophet shall succeed me.

(Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmidhi, Muatta')

Page 8: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

NO PROPHET WILL COME AFTER ME

• You (Ali) are related to me as Aaron was related to

Moses (pbuh). But no Apostle will come after me.

(Bukhari, Muslim

• Musnad recorded a similar hadith ending in 'Behold there

is no prophet-hood after me.')

Page 9: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ONLY CALIPHS WILL SUCCEED ME

• هم النبي ء كلم هلك و ائيل ت لفه نب وإنه ال نب ك نت بنو إ دي نب ب

لف ء يكون و

The tribe of Israel was guided by prophets. When a prophet

passed away, another prophet succeeded him. But no

prophet will come after me; only caliphs will succeed me.

(Bukhari)

Page 10: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

LAST IN THE LINE OF PROPHETS

•I am the last in line of the

prophets of God and my Masjid is

the last Masjid.

(Muslim)

Page 11: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

CHAIN OF PROPHETS HAVE COME TO AN END

•The chain of Messengers and

Prophets has come to an end. There

shall be no Messenger nor Prophet

after me.

(Tirmidhi, Musnad Ahmad, Anas bin

Malik

30 IMPOSTORS WILL ARISE IN THIS UMMAH

• ديالنبيين ال نب ب تم وإنه يكون ف أمت ثثون كذابون كلهم يزعم أنه نب وأن

There will arise thirty impostors in my Ummah and each one

of them will pronounce to the world that he is a prophet, but

I am the last in the line of the Prophets of God and no

Prophet will come after me.

(Abu Dawood, Tirmizi)

Page 13: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

NO PROPHET BUT MUBASHIRAT

• ات ق لوا وم المب ة إال المبش ؤي الص لحة لم يبق من النبو ات ق ل ال ش

• “Nothing remains of prophet-hood except for things which give glad tidings.” They asked: “What are these?” He replied: “Good dreams.(Musnad Ahmad, Abu Tufail, Nasa'i, Abu

Dawud)

Page 14: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

NO PROPHET AFTER ME AND NO COMMUNITY OF FOLLOWERS

•No Prophet will come after me and

there will, therefore, be no other community of followers of any new Prophet.(Baihaqi, Tabarani)

Page 15: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

I AM THE LAST IN THE LINE OF PROPHETS

• God Almighty hath sent unto the world no apostle

who did not warn his people about the appearance of

Dajjal (Anti-Christ, but Dajjal did not appear in their

time). I am the last in the line of Prophets and you are

the last community of believers. Without doubt, then, Dajjal shall appear from amongst you.(Ibn Majah

Page 16: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

MUHAMMAD THE UNLETTERED PROPHET AND NO PROPHET AFTER HIM

• I am Muhammad, the unlettered prophet of Allah. I am Muhammad, the unlettered prophet of Allah. I am Muhammad, the unlettered prophet of Allah. There will be no prophet after me.(Musnad Ahmad)

Page 17: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

THE HISTORIC SERMON OF PROPHET(SAW)

AT HIS LAST HAJJ

• Muhammad(SAW) mentioned this very important fact

in his historic sermon, which was witnessed by over

120,000 individuals. He said:

• “...O People, no prophet or apostle will come after

me, and no new faith will be born. Reason well,

therefore, O People, and understand my words which

I convey to you.”

Page 18: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

THE CONSENSUS OF THE COMPANIONS

• All authentic historical traditions reveal that the companions of the

prophet (PBUH) had unanimously waged a war on the claimants to the

prophet-hood and their adherents after the demise of the Holy Prophet

(PBUH).

• In this connection the case of Musailama is particularly significant.

• This man did not deny that Muhammad (PBUH) was the Prophet of God;

he claimed that God had appointed him as a co- prophet and verses of

the Qur’an were revealed to Musailama.

Page 19: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

THE OPINION OF GREAT SCHOLARS OF ISLAM

• Throughout the centuries, Muslim Scholars have unanimously

supported the fundamental doctrine of Finality of Prophethood in

Prophet Muhammad(SAW).

• So much so, that the entire Ummah has recognized anyone who

claims to be a prophet (in any capacity), supports someone else's

claim to prophethood, or views such claimant as a religious leader,

to be an unbeliever (Kafir).

Page 20: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA IBN-E- JARIR TABRI (224-310 A.H.)

• Interprets Khatam-an-Nabiyeen to mean that :

• “Muhammad(SAW) is the last prophet, the one who

has closed up Prophet-hood or sealed it. This

seal will not be opened for anyone till the Day of

Judgment.”

(Tafsir Ibn-e-Jarir, P. 12, Vol. 22, Egypt)

Page 21: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

MOHIYYUS SUNNAH BAGHAWI (D. 510 A.H.)

• He has written that the:

• “Words Khatam-an-Nabiyeen indicate that Allah(SWT) has

closed the line of Prophethood after Prophet

Muhammad(SAW).... Ibn-e-Abbas says that Allah(SWT) has

declared that there is no Prophet after him(SAW).”

(Tafsir Malimut-tanzil, P. 158, Vol. 3, Egypt)

Page 22: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA ZAMAKHSHARI (467-538 A.H.)

• He has written:

• "If you say how can he(SAW) be the Last Prophet when Jesus(pbuh) will

come in the future ages, I will reply that he(SAW) is the Last Prophet

in the sense that after him no New Prophet will come; Jesus(pbuh) is

one of those Prophets who have already come before him. When

Jesus(pbuh) will come again, he will follow the Sharia of Prophet

Muhammad(SAW) and will face Qibla in his salat; this means that he

will come as an individual of this Ummah.

Page 23: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

IMAM RAZI (543-606 A.H.)

• He is of the opinion that the words Khatam-an-Nabiyeen are used

to show that the Sharia of Islam is complete.

• The view that no prophet will come after Muahmmad(SAW) is also

more affectionate to and particular about his(SAW) Ummah and

gives the significance of the words in more details.

• This is like the example of a son who has no guardian after his

father.

(Tafsir-e-Kabir, P. 581, Vol. 6, Egypt)

Page 24: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA BAIZAVI (D. 685 A.H.)

• He says that Prophet Muhammad(SAW) is the last of all

Prophets.

• He has sealed the Prophet-hood of all Prophets, or their

Prophet-hood has been sealed by him.

• It makes no difference that Jesus(pbuh) will come again after

him, because he will come as a follower of his(SAW) Sharia.

(Tafsir-e-Bizavi, P. 196, Vol. 2, Egypt)

Page 25: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA NASAFI (D. 710 A.H.)

• He recorded that Prophet Muhammad(SAW) is at the end of all

Prophets(pbut); and after him there will be no New Prophet.

• Jesus(pbuh) was made a Prophet before him(SAW); and when he

comes again, he will come as a follower of the Sharia of

Prophet Muhammad(SAW) as if he (Jesus) was an individual of

this Ummah.

(Tafsir-e-Madarik-ut-Tanzil, P. 234, Vol. 3, Egypt)

Page 26: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA ALLAUDDIN KHAZIN (D. 725 A.H.)

• He has expressed the view that Allah(SWT) has ended the

line of Prophethood through him(SAW).

• Therefore, neither there is Prophethood after him, nor

any other Prophet during his own time.

• Indeed, Ibn-e-Abbas has said that God has declared

there will be no Prophet after him(SAW).

(Tafsir-e-Khazin, P. 218, Vol. 5, Egypt)

Page 27: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA IBN-E-KASEER (D. 774 A.H.)

• He has written that Khatam-an-Nabiyeen contains the

final proof of the fact that there will be no Prophet after

him(SAW)..

• There be no more Prophet with Sharia, since the office of

prophet-hood with Sharia is higher than that of mere

Prophet-hood.

(Tafsir-Ibn-e-Kaseer, P. 493, Vol. 3, Egypt)

Page 28: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA IBN-E- KASEER

• "This is the greatest favour of Allah Ta’aala upon this Ummah that

He has perfected for them their religion. Therefore, they will not

be needful of a religion other than Islaam nor of another Prophet

other than their Prophet. May Allah's peace and blessings be upon

him. This is why Allah has made him the last and final Prophet and

sent him to both the humans and the Jinns."

(Tafsir-Ibn-e-Kaseer, P. 482, Vol. 1)

Page 29: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA MOHAMMAD BIN YAKOOB FEROZABADI

• He has interpreted these words to mean that

Allah(SWT) has ended the line of Prophethood

through him(SAW). Therefore, after him, there will

be no New Prophet.

(Tafsir Ibn-e-Abbas, P. 262, Egypt)

Page 30: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA MOINUDDIN BIN SAFIUDDIN(D. 889 A.H.)

• He has written that the Prophet

Muhammad(SAW) is the last of all Prophets and

Jesus(pbuh) will come again as a follower of

his Sharia.

(Jaame-ul-Bayan, P. 359, Dehli)

Page 31: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA SUYUTI (D. 911 A.H.)

• He says that the words Khatam-an-Nabiyeen mean there will be no New Prophet

after him(SAW) and when Jesus(pbuh) will come

again, he will act according to the Sharia of

Prophet Muhammad(SAW).

(Jalalaim Ala Hamish Jamal, P. 442, Vol. 3)

Page 32: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

MOHAMMAD ANWER SHAH KASHMIRI(RA)

• He has seen the meaning of Khatam-an-

Nabiyeen to be that there will be no Prophet after

him(SAW) and Jesus(pbuh) has already been made a

Prophet before him(SAW).

(Mushkilatul Quran, P. 227, Dehli)

Page 33: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

SHEIKH ISMAIL HAQQI (D. 1137 A.H.)

• He has read the phrase Khatam-an-Nabiyeen with the upsound of "T" which means the instrument by which something is closed (sealed).

• The meaning is that he(SAW) was the last of all Prophets by whom the office of all Prophets has been sealed.

• In Persian, "Seal of Prophets" means that by him the doors of Prophethood have been sealed, and the line of Prophethood terminated once and for all.

• Some other scholars have read this with a down sound of "T" which indicates he was "Khatim" in the sense of "Fa'ail".

• In Persian, it will mean the one who seals (ends) the prophets, in which case, the meaning is the same.

(Tafsir Ruhul Bayan, P. 188, Vol. 22, Egypt)

Page 34: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA SULEMAN BIN UMAR BIN JAMA (D. 1204 A.H.)

• He has stated that "It is in the knowledge of Allah,

who has complete knowledge of all things, that

there will be no Prophet after Prophet

Muhammad(SAW)."

(Al-Futuhaatul Ilahiya, P. 442, Vol. 3, Egypt)

Page 35: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA MUHAMMAD SHARBEENI KHATIB

• He says that Prophet Muhammad(SAW) is the end of all Prophets.

• He(SAW) has ended the line of Prophethood, because his message is for the entire world and the Holy Quran is his miracle.

• After him, then, there is no need for a new prophet....

• The meaning of Khatam-an-Nabiyeen is that after Muhammad(SAW), there will be no Prophet with New Sharia, and there will be no Prophethood after him.

• The declaration that he is not the father of any man also proves that there will be no Prophets after him.

(Tafsir Sirajul Munir, P. 252, Vol. 3, Lucknow)

Page 36: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA SHAUKANI (D. 1255 A.H.)

• He has written that the majority of scholars have read the

word Khatam-an-Nabiyeen with the down sound of "T" and

Asaim has read it with the up sound.

• The first means that he(SAW) has sealed the Prophets meaning that

he has come at the very end of them.

• The other means that he is the seal of Prophets by which they

have been completed and by the joining of him the group of

Prophets has been decorated.

(Tafsir-e-Fathul Qadeer, P. 275, Vol. 4, Egypt)

Page 37: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

ALLAMA AALOOSI (D. 1270 A.H.)

• He writes that Muhammad(SAW) is also Khatimul

Mursaleen meaning that after his Prophethood

there will be no Prophethood at all.

(Tafsir Roohul Ma'ani, P. 23, Vol. 22)

Page 38: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

IMAM IBN QUDAMA AL MAQDISI THE GREAT HANBLI IMAM

• Whosoever claims Prophet-hood or one who accepts his claim then (both) become “APOSTATES” because when Musaylma Kazzabclaimed to be Prophet and his people testified to it then all of them became apostates along with him

• [Al Mugni, Volume No. 9, Page No. 33, Publsihed Dar al Fikr, Beirut, Lebanon]

Page 39: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

IMAM GHAZZALI (RAHIMUHULLAH), THE HUJJATUL ISLAM

• We have known through “Consensus” that La Nabi B’adi

(There is no Prophet after me) proves that the door to

Prophet-hood has been permanently closed after

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the word “Khatam an

Nabiyeen” also includes “MUTLAQ ANBIYA (all anbiya)”

• [Al Itisaad fil Itiqaad, Page No. 163]

Page 40: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

SYED ABUL ALA MAUDOODI (D.1979 CE)

• "And he is the last in the line of Prophets,"

• which means that no messenger nor even a Prophet charged with the mission of carrying out reforms in the sphere of Law or society which might have been omitted (God forbid) during the lifetime of Muhammad (PBUH) will ever succeed him.

• Since Allah ordained the ministry of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to be final, it was, therefore, imperative that he should accomplish the task of uprooting pagan customs.

• (Qadiyani Mas’ala)

Page 41: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

MAULANA MAUDOODI WRITES IN “KHUTBAT”

• There are three conditions, which necessitate the advent of a new Prophet over and above the need to

replace a deceased Prophet. These may be summed up as follows:

• 1. That the teachings of the earlier Prophets have been distorted or corrupted or they have died and

their revival is needed.

• 2. That the teachings of the Prophet who has passed away were incomplete and it is necessary to

amend them, improve on them or add something to them.

• 3. That the earlier Prophet was raised for a particular nation or territory and a Prophet for another

nation, people of country is required.

• None of these conditions exist today. The teachings of the last Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon

him) are alive, have been fully preserved and made immortal.

Page 42: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

MISINTERPRETATION OF VERSE 33:40

• Some unlearned opportunists have attempted to misinterpret the

verse 33:40 of Al-Ahzab, which is the best known verse in support

of the doctrine of the Finality of Prophet-hood.

• Such individuals often claim the word khatam, in the context of the

verse, to mean "stamp", "seal", "best", "decoration" or "ring"!

• They also claim that the word Nabiyyeen indicates the "law giving

prophets".

Page 43: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

DICTIONARY TRANSLATION

• The actual dictionary translations of the words khatam nabuwat, in this context,

are as follows:

• Khatam: Can be read in two ways: khatam, meaning last or seal;

and khatim meaning seal or terminator.

The authoritative dictionary of Lisanul-Arab indicates that both 'khatam' and

'khatim' mean "last of them”.

• Qamoos dictionary says that it indicates the "last person", like a seal.

• Nabuwat: Messengership; Prophethood of any kind, since all Messengers

(rasuls or law giving prophets) are also Prophets.

Page 44: Finality of prophethood of mohammad (saw)

CONCLUSION

Those who believe not in the Signs of Allah, Allah will not guide them and theirs will be a grievous Penalty.

(The Holy Quran, An-Nahl 16:104

The sheer amount of evidence provided here should suffice to

convince anyone believing in Islam that the prophet Muhammad(SAW)

was the last Prophet of God

Anyone with a claim to prophet-hood should be considered an outcast

from Islam. Allah(SWT) says:

• ال إ ولهم عذاب ن الذين ال يؤمنون بآي ت الل يهديهم الل

-أليم
