The WSSH Sector organizations and volunteers were feeling difficulties to knowing the data and knowledge about the sector which can be quoted or used in their work and progress. Before this paper no one has worked on this issue. In the year 2015 The Khairpur Rural Development Organization (KRDO) and Integrated Regional Support Program (IRSP) felt the need of such document which can be useful for the sector actor NGOs and Volunteers to work more efficiently in the Country. From starting to finalization of this paper the support and guidance of End Water Poverty (EWP) was remained with the team and resulting the briefing paper was successfully completed and launched on the website of EWP. This is the first example in the South Asia to develop the Country Briefing Paper on Right to Water and Sanitation and this credit goes to KRDO, IRSP and EWP. This Country paper can be referred by the partners of EWP and other stakeholder for getting knowledge, information and understanding about the problem and solutions. Country Briefing Paper on Realizing of Right

to Water & Sanitation in Pakistan

The Country Briefing paper of Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Right

to Water , Sanitation & Hygiene is a detailed document for the sector

related volunteers to work more efficiently having primary and

secondary data and information about the WASH Sector in Pakistan.

The WSSH Sector organizations and volunteers were feeling

difficulties to knowing the data and knowledge about the sector which

can be quoted or used in their work and progress. Before this paper no

one has worked on this issue. In the year 2015 The Khairpur Rural

Activities of IRSP Pakistan

During the reporting period IRSP successfully provided WASH facilities in 16 CBECs by

construction of 13 DWSS, 48 (3 stance) latrines, 16 Washing hands point and installation of

16 solid waste points. 150 Health & Hygiene sessions conducted with community & children

on the hazards of open defecation, best hygiene practices, prevention of water borne diseases,

personal & environmental hygiene and hand washing.

2. Training of Trainers on Village Sanitation Committees at Buner.

The IRSP Team led by Ms Shazia Sardar (as Master Trainer) was participated in the Training

if Trainers on Village Sanitation Committees, organized by the SRSP with the support of

UNICEF. The Community institutions are better equipped and prepared to implement

concept of Social Mobilization. Village

members from UC Shalbandai, Daggar,

training. These members were 25 in numbers. Similar female activity was held on 6th of

November, where 15 WVSC members from UC Gadezi, Shalbandai, Daggar, Pacha and

Noorizi participated. During the sessions members received orientation on topics related to

WASH. CLTS, PRA, SLTS, Role and Responsibilities were shared with the participants.

Activities of KRDO, Sindh, Pakistan 1. Education Sector

A session on Importance of Education specially Importance of Girls Education was held at

Village Bakhshan Noonari, Tehsil & District Khairpur Sindh Pakistan on August 18,2015.

Ms. Gul Bano Soomro, Volunteer of KRDO was conducted the session and emphasized on

the Girl’s Education. More than 20 women of the village were present in the session.

2. WASH Sector

Training on Sanitary Pad making (MHM)

1. A Training session was conducted by Ms, Nsrat Joyo, Volunteer of KRDO on 14-7-

2015 in Gilal Mohalla, Wada Mahessar, Taluka Kingri, District Khairpur. Ms. Nusrat

was informed about the Menstrual Hygiene Management in homes and community,

its hazards and health tips during periods. The use of pads and it making in

homes/local level was also discussed and in the last Ms. Nusrat was practically told

about the pad making and material used for the making of pads and its benefits.

2. A Training Session on Sanitary Pad Making was organized by KRDO on September

13, 2015 at Mahaessar Mohalla. Wada Mahaessar Taluka Kingroi District Khairpur.

Ms. Nusrat Joyo, Volunteer of KRDO was conducted a session on Menstrual Hygiene

Management at home level and discuss about the use of pads during periods or not. In

the last Ms. Joyo was practically make a pad and show to all women and young girls

attended this session and emphasize that the pads may be used during period so they

can protected from various diseases.

A session was arranged on the Right to Water & Sanitation by the SDS Naseerabad at the

Government Girls Primary School, Dera Murad Jamali, District Naseerabad Baluchistan,

Pakistan. Ms. Zarbibi Balouch, President of SDS was informed about the importance of safe

drinking water and use of toilets and about the benefits of adoption of hygiene education in

the daily life. The Right to Water & Sanitation was also informed to the students, so they can

communicate this message to their parents and the Campaign may be initiated easily by the

SDS in Dera Murad Jamali, District Naseerabad, Baluchista, Pakistan. More than 100 girls

were present in the session. In the last a rally on Right to Water & Sanitation was also

conducted.

Activities of Shah Sachal Saami Social Welfare Association, Nawabshah, Sindh

On 14th August 2015 the Independence Day was celebrated at village Sohrab Khan Chandio,

UC Jhoro Khan Shar District Nawabshah (Benazirabad) in the program the hundreds of

children of School and parents and teachers were participate the in program. During this

program the Volunteers of the NGO named Shah Sachal Sami Welfare Association, District

Nawabshah (Benazirabad) were also actively participated in the program and delivered a

Lecture by the President of organization Mr. Zulifqar Ali Khaskhelly on the health &

Hygiene education.

Activities of AGAHE Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan

WASH Sector

Menstrual hygiene is an essential part to ensure the girls rights related to water, sanitation and

hygiene. Through ensuring the menstrual hygiene it means that our everyday life is not

interrupted by menstruation. It also ensures that that we can continue with our daily routine

work, going to school, going to work etc.It can also prevent reproductive health infection,

situation of embarrassment and we feel confident about ourselves. In this sense, maintaining

proper menstrual hygiene is very important for the well-being and dignity of adolescent girls

and women.

Accessibility & Safety Audit:

During this quarter AGAHE MHM Staff attended the training on accessibility & safety audit

of schools with the technical and financial support of wateraid in Pakistan. And implement

the accessibility in 15 Government girls Schools of district Muzaffargarh. The overall

purpose of this social and infrastructure audit is to access the,

To evaluate the level of accessibility and safety of an existing water and sanitation

facility and its surroundings and to identify possible changes and recommendation.

To identify any risk regarding safety/harassment for adolescent girls

Identify the accessibility measures for person with disability

To identify the problems relating to accessibility and safety audit and suggested

possible changes to make all facilities accessible and safe.

PRA Tools in School & Community: The team has conducted the participatory rural appraisal tools in 15 schools and 15

communities to build a rapport building and to find out the knowledge, practices,

issues related to WASH, cultural and social myths of adolescent girls and women

regarding their menstruation and menstrual hygiene.

Through different exercises of PRA Tools the team come to know the community s

behavior, their daily activity chart, seasonal calendar, taboos and myths regarding

menstruation, community & school mapping and different problems of water,

sanitation and hygiene which they are facing during school time and when they have

their menstruation. To ensure the girls rights related to WASH and menstrual hygiene

it is important to know all these information so we can do a better implementation and

promote the menstrual hygiene in all surroundings.

Girl Friendly Toilet: During this quarter, AGAHE has constructed

the o4 Girl Friendly Toilets in GGES Gazran,

GGES Noor Kubra, GGHS Kram Dad

Qureshi, GGHS Nawan Budh along with

incinerator, privacy wall, washing pads and all

its standard criteria to promote the good

menstrual hygiene practices among adolescent

girls and also rehabilitated water supply

system in GGHS Nawan Budh to ensure the

safe water for students.

AGAHE has a baseline Survey in 50

schools and communities for ensuring

the Girls Rights on MHM through WASH consultant.
