Film Väst is one of Europe’s most successful co-producers and Scandinavia’s preeminent regional film fund. Millions of cinema tickets are sold annually to Film Väst co-productions around the globe.

Over the years, Film Väst co-prodcutions have also been richly rewarded with nomina-tions and prizes at the world’s most prestigio-us events, including festivals such as Cannes and Berlin, and galas such as the European Film Awards, the Golden Globes and the Oscars.

Film Väst is already off to a great start in 2016 with an Oscar nomination for Best

Acheivement in Makeup and Hairstyling for Felix Herngren’s film The Hundred Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared. Other notable acheivements include the Swedish box office hit A Man Cal-led Ove, by Hannes Holm, which is well on its way to joining The Hundred Year-Old Man… as one of the two most seen films by Swedish audiences in Swedish cinema history.

Cinema history was also made in Norway as the Roar Uthaug’s The Wave overwhelmed the rest of the competition at the Norwegian box office after the Film Väst co-production’s succesful international premier at the Toron-to International Film Festival.

There were no shortages of festival suc-cesses for Film Väst co-productions in 2015 either. My Skinny Sister by Sanna Lenken and Flocking by Beata Gårdeler each won Crystal Bears in their respective Generation Programme categories during the 65th Berlin International Film Festival.

The Romanian co-production One Floor Below by Radu Muntean premiered in the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes and was joined there by Swedish debutant Magnus von Horn’s The Here After in Director’s Fortnight, which went on to win the Swedish Oscar (Guldbagge) for Best Film in 2015.

The 2016 line up of Film Väst co-productions promises to build upon the successes from earlier years.

No less than 8 Film Väst co-productions have been selected in various sections of the Berlin International Film Festival: The short, Mama Knows Best by Mikael Bundsen and the feature film 6A by Peter Modestij in Ber-lin’s Generation Programme, the documen-tary Kiki by Sara Jordenö and Twiggy Pucci Garcon in the Panorama Programme, which also had its premier in Sundance, in the Pano-rama Programme, Pernilla August’s A Serious Game in the Berlinale Special Gala Program-me, Ten Meter Tower by Axel Danielsson and Maximilien van Aertryck and Moms On Fire by Joanna Rytel in the Official Competion for short films, and Tomasz Wasilewski’s United States of Love accompanyning Thomas Vinterberg’s The Commune in the Berlinale’s prestigious Official Competition.

Many more Film Väst co-productions are expected to capture the interest of program-mers for the world’s most prestigious festivals throughout the rest of 2016. Among the most notable are Golden Bear winner Semih Kap-lanoglu’s Grain, Agnieszka Holland’s Game Count, and Gilles Marchand’s Into the Forest. Hopes are also high for Johannes Nyholm’s feature film debut The Giant and Gabriela Pichler’s Invasion expecting to represent

Swedish co-productions at festivals in the near future.

Expectations are also sky high for box office successes in other territorues, with the third installment of Jussi Adler Olsen adaptions, A Conspiracy of Faith directed by Hans Petter Molland, expected to top the box office in Denmark, and anticipation that Erik Poppe’s The King’s Choice will accomplish the same feat in Norway.

2016 will also see the release of two major co-productions between Film Väst and the UK that are likely to please both audiences and festivals, with Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha’s Viceroy House a possible box office and festival success, and An Education director Lone Scherfig’s Their Finest Hour and a Half both on the horizon. Also fitting this category is Dutch director Martin Koolhoven’s wild western Brimstone starring Dakota Fanning and Kit Harrington.

Not to be overlooked in this year’s strong line up are Film Väst’s co-productions with the United States. Shintaro Shimosawa’s thriller Misconduct stars Al Pacino alongside Anthony Hopkins for the first time in their illustrious careers. Last but not least, Film Väst is proud to be involved in the Cold War spy thriller The Coldest City, starring Char-lize Theron and James McAvoy, directed by David Leitch.

Scandinavia’s leading film region

Film Väst is a regional film fund located on the Swedish west coast in Västra Götaland. Its main headquarters are situated 70 km from Gothenburg in Trollhättan, the country’s leading film city, affectionally referred to by locals as Trollywood.

Since its inception, Film Väst has co-produ-ced more than 500 feature films, in addition to many TV dramas, shorts and documentaries, establishing Västra Götaland as the most pro-minent film region in Sweden and the mome to many film companies.

Film Väst is a company wholly owned by Västra Götalandsregionen, the Regional Autho-rity of Västra Götaland. The Regional Authori-

ty’s intention is that the work of Film Väst will make a substantial contribution to establishing Västra Götaland as the foremost film produc-tion in northern Europe.

In order to be eligible for financing from Film Väst some part of a film’s production must carried out in the region of west Sweden, either in the form of shooting days or post production. Film Väst is an equity investor, and can invest in up to a maximum of 100% of the production costs allocated to the region. Next to the Swedish Film Institute, Film Väst is the most significant source of funding for films in Sweden and co-produces more international productions than any entity in Scandinavia.

Film Väst has co-produced more than 500 feature films, in addition to many TV dramas, shorts and documentaries, establishing Västra Götaland as the most prominent film region in Sweden and the home to many film companies.

What are we looking for? Film Väst seeks projects that can compete in the most pres-tigious film festivals and/or be seen by a large international audience.

Film Väst accepts applications for feature film co-productions throughout the year. All co-productions are required to bring elements of production or post-production to Västra Götaland, work with a Swedish production partner, and hire crew and workers from the region.

With Film Väst’s growing success, the appli-cation process has become increasingly com-petitive. Projects need to secure the majority of financing in their own territory prior to their application, demonstrate the ability to obtain theatrical distribution in Sweden and show a potential for competitive entry at prestigious international film festivals.

Why choose Film Väst? In addition to equity finance from Film Väst, west Sweden offers world class experienced film crews that have worked on countless award winning interna-tional productions as well as the largest purpo-se built studio and sound stage in Scandinavia. There are many options for exteriors with the region’s diversity of locations, from rugged forested terrain and sleepy sea-side towns to the urban center of Gothenburg. The region maintains a high international standard in equipment rental as well as hotels and catering services, in addition to post production facili-ties that include a final mix studio and award winning VFX and sound companies.

Facilities & locations West Sweden has been used in both feature films and TV series to portray different locations from aorund in the world, as well as its owh vibrant big cities, sleepy small towns and former fishing villages.

Production service Film Väst’s website www.filmservice.se is a resource for all film

and TV productions, and offers information on production crew and services in Västra Götaland for industry professionals. The site’s database lists qualified film workers living in the region, and includes contact informa-tion for more than 450 crew members and an additional database to search from over 3.800 extras. The site also offers a list of experienced suppliers and service providers, including

reputable hotels and car rental companies that have successfully delivered services to film productions for many years.

Studio Fares Studio Fares, located in Troll-hättan, is the second largest sound-stage in Scandinavia with an area of 1.100 sq m (approx 11.800 sq ft). The facilities include a stage workshop, storage and an additional gated

parking area. Well equipped production offices as well as make up and dressing rooms are also available on site. Melancholia, Filth and The Commune have used the Film Väst studio in Trollhättan.

Other facilities here include a catering kitchen, dining area and additional areas for extras. In addition, Gothenburg offers three flexible film studios in the very heart of the city.
