Our lives today are busy…no argument there. We have a lot of stress and demands on a daily basis. shopfredericton! recently caught up with two amazing women who have discovered Reiki in their own lives and now share their gift with several people searching for what is missing in their lives.

Pam Allen-LeBlanc from Hidden Brook Farm is a Reiki Master Teacher, noted for her Reiki work with animals, and also a prac-tioner and teacher of Karuna® Reiki. Pam is just back from a CTV interview about her Reiki work with animals! She was also featured on the cover of the Fall 2013 issue of Reiki magazine. Allen-LeBlanc says she is the most unlikely candidate for her Reiki practice being a Scientist and also having a business background, but a personal health crisis led her to Reiki and she hasn’t looked back. She was the typical type A personality and after experiencing Reiki, she was hooked with the peaceful feeling she had.

Jocelyn Clark is also a Reiki Master Teach-er who has been practicing Reiki for almost 11 years now. Clark says Reiki has changed her life. A Registered Nurse, Jocelyn agrees

Complimentary Medicine isn’t something that was taught while receiving her Nursing Education, but feels it is slowly being accept-ed by some medical practioners. Like Al-len-LeBlanc, Jocelyn was introduced to Reiki following a health issue and has made it a daily part of her life. “It changes your life. Health is more than the physicalness of a person, it’s the emotional, spiritual and men-tal portion too and Reiki helps relax the body and gives you an inner peace. People come to Reiki because they are missing something in their lives.”

Clark believes people with anxiety so often turn to medication and/or alcohol to ease their suffering which often compounds the problem. When not working at the hospital, Jocelyn is giving Reiki treatments or teaching Reiki to people who have experienced the positive effect of Reiki in their lives. She is doing something right – her Facebook page “The Reiki Cottage” has over 2200 followers!

Like Jocelyn, Pam agrees that people come to Reiki because they are experiencing a crisis and they start looking for more. Pam has given treatments to doctors, nurses, thera-

pists and several other people from the med-ical discipline who were looking to regain a spiritual connection.

Asking Pam about success stories she shares about one client who she claims is her biggest success story; a young woman suffering for 4 years from Major Depressive Disorder who was suicidal even though she was in active treatment and on 5 prescribed anti-depres-sants. This woman had reached the bottom and had nothing more to try for treatments. She met Allen-LeBlanc and although skepti-cal she agreed to try a Reiki treatment. The results after one treatment brought her back for another 5 or 6 appointments and today she is back enjoying life, back to work, and has found a peace in her life she never expe-rienced before. No medications either.

If you are wanting to connect with either of these remarkable women you can find Pam Allen-LeBlanc through her website www.hiddenbrook.ca and Jocelyn Clark on her Facebook page “The Reiki Cottage”.

A Pathway to Peace

One of the greatest Reiki healing health benefits is stress reduction and relaxation, which triggers the body’s natural healing abilities, and improves and maintains health.

What do you get when a Performance Based Recreation Dealer, a wood’s equipment manufacturer and a not-for-profit organization for people with disabilities put their heads together?

King of the Strip!

Page 9: February 2015

Want to have some fun and see some action…you’ll have to join us at an abandoned airstrip on the out-skirts of Fredericton and watch su-per-fast sleds racing for the title. King of the Strip is the brain child of Tony McCoy, owner of Torque Motorsports and Serge Landry from ALPA Equipment Ltd. Easter Seals is the not-for-profit organization involved and benefit-ting from the hard work of many volunteers.

On February 7th the airstrip behind ALPA in Maugerville, NB will be filled with the roaring sound of upwards to 100 snowmobiles and the air will be blue with 2 stroke exhaust – anyone who is a snowmobile enthusiast will confirm the rush they get with even a hint of 2 stroke in the air! And if it’s anything like last year there will be over 1500 spectators on the sidelines cheering on their favorite sled.

Last year was the first running of King of the Strip, and it was a huge success. The event came about when Serge purchased a sled from Tony at Torque Motorsports, and the two men, being snowmobile enthusiasts put their heads together to come up with an event for fellow sledding fanatics. Both being generous, com-munity minded men, they wanted to bring a charity component to the event. Tony had sponsored the Easter Seals Snow-a-rama event in the past and with the future of this popu-lar fund raiser uncertain, he approached Easter Seals with their plan and King of the Strip was created and there’s been no looking back.

Competitors come from far and wide to vie for King of the Strip. There are many local en-trants, but also from as far away as Balmoral, NB and Halifax, NS. The fee to enter is a mere $20 and everyone has their eye on the prize. The “Naturally Aspirated King” – this is for the driver of the conventional sled (no pow-er adders on this one) will take home $500 for winning their class. The ultimate “King of the Strip” – you know the guy with the 1,000,000 hp sled – he takes home $1000.

But seriously, talking about horsepower…some of these sleds have over 500 horsepower! This

is unbelievable and way too fast for most peo-ple. Let’s compare this to a 2015 Corvette with a V-8 that maxes out at 460 hp! Now that’s a flippin’ fast sled! Some of the sleds do the 1/8 mile in just over 5 seconds – that’s somewhere between 130 and 140 mph! So fast they’re just a blur. And…some of these snowmobiles are pretty darn expensive with all their gear – up-wards to $40,000. A racing clutch can cost $3000! This is serious business folks.

Friday night, February 6th there’s an event called the “Fastest Pump Fuel”. Tony explains this as simply filling each machine with regular pump fuel – no additives, just plain old gas-oline. The participants embark on a 30 mile “leisurely” run and end up back at the track and race until they run out of gas. Then they gath-er for a supper and get ready for race day.

Race Day! Last year spectators were greeted in the ALPA parking lot and then they either walked to the airstrip or were shuttled in an old Bombardier bus type sled to the airstrip. A small monetary donation gets you into the events. Oh, and don’t forget the 50/50 draw – you may be the lucky winner this year.

Food…did we mention the food. Well, Steve Robinson, owner of The Kitchen Helper will be there with his food concession – burgers, hot dogs, fries and maybe some comfort food this time. Last year Steve generously donated all the food sold and all proceeds from food sales were donated to Easter Seals! Way to go Steve!

At the end of the day, the goal is for everyone – drivers and spectators alike – to have fun and enjoy one of New Brunswick’s favorite win-ter pass times. The added bonus is the mon-ey raised to help people with disabilities. Last year King of the Strip was able to donate over $5000 to Easter Seals…come out and help us beat last years’ total.

Happy and Safe Sledding from ShopFrederic-ton!

Hockey, Soccer, Football – Are You One of Those Sports’ Parents? There was a rumor last fall about a parent’s behavior at a local high school football game. Apparently, the heckling of the referees, the swearing at other player’s and yelling at the coach caused a great deal of embarrassment for the local team and left the visiting (out-of-town) team with a bad taste in the mouth regarding this school and team. Embarrassing to say the least!

Are you one of those parents, or do you know a parent like that? If so, we’re sorry. Our kid’s sports are supposed to be fun for them. They are supposed to promote growth, team-work, good sportsmanship and provide them with exercise. We are supposed to be positive role models for our children and set examples for them, however, when a parent shows their immature, poor sportsman-like, childish behavior what message are we sending to our children?

A few guidelines for you so you are the exemplary parent and who knows, maybe your example will rub off on the parents who need a gentle reminder.

People get worked up; it’s in the heat of the moment that our mouths start spewing profanities before our brain has an opportunity to engage. Think about what you will say before you open your mouth…remember, you can’t take the words back once they are out there.

Not every child is destined to be the next Crosby or Gretzky, let them have fun and commend them for how they are do-ing, rather than chastise them for not being as good at stick handling as their peers. Playing any sport is difficult. Face it – many of us would be awful at certain sports our kids are pretty good at. Our job is to be patient, encouraging and supportive. Participation is as important as winning. It is as important for them to play by the rules and belong to a team as it is for them to strive for excellence.

Don’t yell at the players – our team or the opposing team. Don’t yell at the referees or the coach. If you don’t like the job the coach is doing – volunteer and experience for yourself how much time and effort is dedicated to coaching a team.

Don’t yell at your kid! Shouting and yelling at your kid makes you look like a bully. People will wonder if you do it at the rink…do you act that way at home. It’s only okay to yell at your kid if you are cheering them on.

Show and teach respect. Respect the coaches, the players – on both teams, other parents and most of all show some self-re-spect.

At the end of the day, we want our children to be happy and healthy and to belong. Team sports are a great way to help us on this journey, just remember to play by the rules – rules for you and your kids.

Do you have a little problem, a teeny little problem?

Help has arrived – just Ask MiaDear Mia,

I have a problem that is weighing heavily on me. My dear husband thinks it’s his job to remind me I have gained a few pounds in the 20 years we have been married. Actu-ally, I have gained one pound for each year I have been wed to this man. (I should mention I have given him 4 beautiful children – which didn’t do much for my figure either.)

We are a pretty healthy family – I mean, we eat well bal-anced meals, and do exercise. Nothing hard core, but we swim and walk the dog and go skating. I dress to camou-flage my weight gain – not in camo print, but in clothes that make me look attractive.

He has managed to stay the same size and shape since we met and me well…my shape has changed and needless to say…so has my size. My extra pounds are there for everyone to see.

We have a good relationship, but deep down I feel he is unhappy with my physical appearance. Mia, please tell me what to do…

Signed,

Soft like a Pillow.___________________________________________

Dear Soft,

My dear girl! Four children and 20 pounds in 20 years! Not to mention being married to the same man for 20 years! You are a dream! First, love yourself for all you have done. I know a woman who gained 90 pounds af-ter two years of marriage and no kids, but that’s another story.

Tell your husband how you feel and if you have done that, tell him again, and again and again – until he gets it. Do you want to lose the 20 pounds? If you do, ask him for help and support on your journey. If you don’t – well lis-ten, it’s your body and your life. He still loves you – all of you. If he can’t get past the 20 pounds, it’s his problem not yours.

Love,

Mia XOXO
